      Hi Pat,

      Clean bill of health!

Both lumps essentially benign. The small one was pre-cancerous so I need to be on the lookout for other lumps in the future. Large one completely benign. Stitches out now as well.

Also I’ve officially re-named him Oliver…a British breed deserves a British name! He still kind of freaks out when left alone in the kennel but seemingly less so than in the past. I’m so attached to him, though and he’s such an amazing and well behaved pooch! We’re both super lucky! A couple of recent pics attached.

          Good Morning Pat,
I waited to provide any report on Trevor as he was so shut down . Had to wait him out to crack that shell. Poor fella was in a bit of shock.
I am going to condition the name Trevor just like I would for a puppy or teaching a dog a new name – Name , food, Name , food ……. . Then progress to head turn or eye contact.
He is only just now happy and interested to take treats from me . Things will go fast now that we have a some relationship. He came and sat next to me and gave me a few soft kisses yesterday.
He is a big sweetie but think he will be best suited to a quieter home . Also think he would be happiest with another dog that is also a bit chill like him. He does not like to be alone except will sleep alone at night.

          Cindy-

I looked forward to your update on Trevor and was concerned he may have been an issue. He sounds better than we thought and just an under trained and socialized dog.

If you feel a name change is better for him, please do. I like the name Trevor, but if he is not responding maybe some other name would be better. Or I can ask the sister if he had a nickname.

Thanks much for your help with him.

            Hi Pat ,
Trevor has been with me a week . It has taken a week for him to decompress. I understand from talking to the niece at drop-off that his world was very small. He started out very shut down , not eating well and not wanting to be handled . He has come a long way this week with relaxing , eating consistently and wanting to interact and play . Will start seeing the real dog now that he feels comfortable and we have some trust .
To date I find him to be a very calm , easy going guy. He is cautious and can frighten easily.
His vet record also had a note from the owner that he was dog reactive but he is very calm and friendly with my dogs . I let him play with my young dale yesterday and Burl is a bit too rough for him . Trevor is very overweight and out of shape so he wears out quickly. But he really wants to play. He is very sweet to my little one as well.
He will grab you with his mouth if he gets over-aroused or if you try to take his toy when playing . But he is actually very gentle and aware with his mouth. He does not do this aggressively. He responds to “No” to stop that form of interaction.
He is very gentle and careful with his mouth when he is offered a treat .
He otherwise seems to know next to nothing . He was handed off with a thin harness and a flexi-lead. When you clip the lead to his harness he expects you to follow where he wants to go . He knows nothing about collar pressure or leash pressure so he has no understanding of walking with you and doesn’t know how to respond to any directional information from the leash. Other than getting him in a routine this week that is the only thing I have worked on with him.
He doesn’t really respond to his name “Trevor” so wonder if he had a nick name . As such he has no recall .
It has taken a week to get him to lie down on a dog bed instead of the floor.
Seems he had a very small simple world.
I have him on a good high protein diet , a joint supplement as he is very stiff in the hips and some good regular exercise to get some weight off and build some muscle .
He is a nice looking dog . He is very teddy bearish looking with short legs and big broad neck and head . Also a potentially very nice coat .
I find him to be a big sweet , goof ball .

              Victoria,

ARG has received the surrender form for Amara. Someone from our team will reach out to you.

Do you have a contract with the breeder and does the breeder require the dog be returned to them?

              Thank you.

4/10/25: text to Jamie Rotman about fostering. She said yes.

4/11/25; Jamie asked if she could foster to adopt. Of course.
Jamie and Shane will work out time for Hamie to drive to the home to get Layla.

                  4/6/25. Charles Boozer Jr deceased.

Family surrendered his dog Trevor. Apparently Charles Jr lived with Charles Sr. When speaking with the sister today, she mentioned the previous dog, Dabo.

                    Hi Cindy –

We have a male, neutered Airedale who was surrendered because his owner died. The mother is elderly and in a wheelchair, and the sister has 2 dogs and can’t manage another. There was a circumstantial bite to the vet at a mobile vet clinic at a gas station outdoors with a lot of other people and dogs. Even the vet said the dog was not at fault.

The owner’s BIL has been walking Trevor since last Thursday. He walks well on a leash and enjoys his walks. He has also done well with other people coming into the home due to the owner’s death.

I have attached the communication, and I am waiting for photos and vet records, which the sister tried to attach, but the info was not included. The sister thinks he needs a fenced yard, no children and prefers a male owner.

Of course, they need him placed somewhere by next weekend.

                    Thanks for letting us know.

                    Pat
Would you be willing to take the dog to assess him?

I talked with Ellen, the site of the owner who died. Trevor bit the vet during a mobile visit with many other dogs, barking and people around. Sounds like a lousy circumstance. The vet even stated the bit was not his fault.

Ellen, her husband, and her mother have been with Trevor since last Thursday, and he has been good, although he is looking for his owner.

I know. We are clear on the policy, but a dog biting an event under such circumstances is not a dog attacking someone unprovoked.

I asked her to ask the vet if she knew someone. Breeder is unknown, someone in NC. The family ha Airedales for years and got them all from the same breeder.
                      Grateful,

                        VC,

I am sorry you are disgruntled. Based on your communications, ARG assumed you rejected him because he had not been maintained on vaccines and heartworm prevention and still required neutering. Therefore, he was offered to someone who would accept his background and the fact he required neutering. As explained, rescued dogs are rarely perfect.

ARG does not know when there will be a dog to meet your expectations, and our team does not know what your expectations are.

                        Grateful,

I see from a Facebook posting that Archie is on his way to Georgia somewhere. This makes two times when you’ve asked me about taking a dog , you have rejected me.. I understood that I had right of first refusal for Archie. I guess that was not true as well.I don’t understand why this is happening. I have done everything that you have asked, except I couldn’t get the Poppie the exact day you wanted me because of my surgery. Consider me disgruntled.

                            Notes from Nicole, trainer, 3/31/2025:
Good morning! I will get you some training videos today!

So far I’ve been just having her decompress and figure out my house. She’s met a couple people (a fellow Airedale owner and trainer friend of mine) and she was fantastic. Minus some jumping up lol. I did a few obedience things with her yesterday and it does seem like she knows them, just overall lack of reliability/clarity.

Her engagement isn’t great, especially outside. Just in her own world. So my first steps are going to be building value in paying attention to me through a marker system I’ll teach her and pos reinforcement. She’s super treat motivated so that’s extremely helpful lol.

I’ll also get started on teaching her how to respond to leash pressure pretty quickly too so we can build engagement on walks and get some nice leash manners.

Yeah she’s been really great so far! She’s a little funky with spatial pressure when going into the crate nothing bad at all she just looks tense, but she’s in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people so that’s totally normal

She’s met all my cats too. I’ll probably dog test her today or tomorrow!

She’s going to be a great dog for some family

It looks like Archie is due for everything except Rabies. Since we have a little time, could you get him in to update his vaccines, have a fecal test done and a heartworm test. Based on heartworm test results, please start him on Heartgard.
