My starting plan:build some food drive, he hasn’t been interested in food or treats at all, i think he is just still very overwhelmed with the change
Counter conditioning around dogs to try and get that reactivity down and overall arousal – possibly muzzle train too since his history with dogs, that way he can be safe but also look at getting him with.l a dog and see if it’s actual aggression
I also have cats too so safety around them
Tethering in the house to try and get a sense of calm
See what he likes to do play wise, fetch, tug, flirtpole… anything I can use to tire him out and start teaching boundaries in the form of a game

Wanted to shoot you some videos I got this morning, just of him being him. The dog reactivity from a distance really isn’t that bad, I’ve def seen worse but I didn’t push his threshold to make him explode because he was building to that.
You can see when I get him out he’s just very disengaged, not uncommon for the terrier as you know. But a little all over the place and unfocused. Hoping we can build some relationship in the next few days to work on this.
He has no really manners or obedience. He’s offered me a sit before but like one time hahaha
And I also want to build on his play skills to get an on/off switch for that. He like to play with stuffed toys, as you could imagine he likes to kill things lmfaooooooo. However, you can see how obsessed he becomes with the toy after it goes away. And it completely throws off his mindset back to crazy
9/6/25 returned Acruffy to Nicole Susie. No emotions.
Not sure Patrick is terrier material. Will have to reconsider if another placement should be made.

I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart regarding Scruffy, the rescue pup I adopted six months ago. I want to begin by expressing my deep appreciation for the work your organization does and for giving me the opportunity to care for Scruffy. I’ve done my best to provide him with a safe and loving home, but I’ve come to realize that his needs may exceed what I’m able to offer.
Over the past months, Scruffy has shown significant behavioral challenges, including extreme aggression toward other dogs, severe separation anxiety, and difficulty with basic trust and eye contact. Multiple trainers have declined to work with him due to liability concerns, and the few who are willing have quoted costs far beyond my financial capacity. Even veterinary boarding has proven difficult due to his behavior. In this time period Scruffy has attacked two dogs in the neighborhood. In April, Scruffy’s aggressive behavior caused me to have a concussion when he hit my head.
I’ve tried to be patient, consistent, and compassionate, but I’m now experiencing extreme anxiety and emotional strain. I believe Scruffy may thrive better in an environment without other dogs and with access to specialized training—something I’m sadly unable to provide.
This is not a decision I’ve made lightly. I’m not giving up on Scruffy; I’m trying to do what’s best for both of us. I’m asking if your team would consider taking him back and working toward placing him in a setting that better suits his behavioral and emotional needs.
Please let me know what steps I need to take, and if there are any forms or evaluations required. I’m committed to making this transition as smooth and respectful as possible.

I’d like to apologize for just now responding. I had an email with Round #1 HW receipts attached and ready to go, but I got sidetracked and never sent. We’ve actually been calling him Ozzie (my dad’s nickname was Oz) because I couldn’t quite get the name “Stevie” out and by accident I kept calling him by my former Airedale’s name, Duke.
Airedales never cease to amaze me and Ozzie is no different. He loves his kennel and will put himself to bed, but a couple of times he’s escaped while I’ve been out running errands. I was at my mom’s and Ozzie was staying in a large soft-sided travel kennel with zipper doors. I put him up to run errands and when we got back he was loose in the house. I expected him to have eaten through the fabric, but the kennel remained intact. He had worked the zipper down enough to squeeze out his body. He did another time that day too! He’s so much calmer these days, but is still very attached to me – we’ve been working on not following me everywhere I go.
Ozzie did have a minor setback the morning of the first HW treatment – he woke up with runny poop and the vet wasn’t comfortable beginning the treatment that week. They ran some tests and all was well except he had worms (either they didn’t get them all at his first visit or he got them again). We finished up Rounds #2 and #3 last week and he’s doing well. He’s still somewhat anxious and just exists at some level of excitement, so we’ve been very diligent in keeping him calm post-treatment. In hindsight, I’m glad we had to wait 30 days post-antibiotics to begin HW treatment as it gave me time to get him on a heal while walking.
I’m not sure what the next step would be, but we would love to keep him. I try not to humanize dogs, but he’s been through a lot (multiple owners who perhaps treated him poorly/being on the streets) and we love him. He’s a sweet boy who loves other dogs and kisses people. I’m not sure what is going on these days, but it seems like it’s the summer of Airedale Returns and when we can, we want to make a nice donation to ARG. I’ve picked up dogs on the side of the highway at my Farm, but this experience has given me firsthand exposure to the importance of rescue groups.

I’m interested in potentially adopting Samson.
I’m in NC, is he good with small dogs? I’ve got a 5lbs Chihuahua female. She is dominant.
I’ve owned several Airedales, one from cradle to grave and the other from resuce to grave some 10 years later.
I’ve done Airedale rescue and am well versed in positive training modalities.

Cloak is one of the 5 Airedales that we are actively treating for HW. He was one of the several Airedales found wondering and not in good shape. Cloak is estimated to be a little over 1 year old.
Last Thursday was his first HW treatment. Unrelated, over the weekend, he had a serious incident in which he was not able to urinate or defecate. The vet referred him to the veterinary ER. Cloak was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Once stabilized, surgery to neuter him was done this morning, and he will be released later today. His prostate should return to normal over the next 7-10 days. The ER also did an electrocardiogram and determined his heart is good and once the HW load is treated, he should do well.
We don’t know the total cost for the dog yet. Foster Kevin Maclean had to put $4000 down at intake. He and I will discuss the total once known and do some kind of cost share as they plan on adopting him.
Just wanted to give you a heads up on possible support.
