8/8/2020 pat; spoke with Volker prior to application as he was interested in understanding our process. He is a dog knowledgeable person and has trained a number of dogs including Airedale’s when he was in Germany. We reviewed ARG’s view (and mine) on balances training with no electronic collars or prong collars. Behavior modification through shaping behavior and treat/praise reward. Property is not fenced but he is not opposed to fencing and is committed to leash walking until that time.

He has 2 teenage children that are with him part time. Both have grown up with dogs, the family dog (boxer) passed away last year of old age. He would like to meet the potential adoptee to make sure they would have a bond. Move forward on HV.

                      to me

                      Hey Pat,
Enders Safalow can be removed from the list as she adopted a rescue dog.
I called her on 8/9 and today. Today she got back to me.

                      thanks

8/11/2020 Pat: Spoke with Nancy Scott. Sound like lovely people; their dogs are their kids and they will care for them and medical expenses as needed. She sets boundaries in the home and expects good behavior while understanding the Airedale temperament. They have had Cooker Spaniels in the past but for the last 2 year shave been caring for their neighbor’s Airedale, Kona, when the two have to be away due to jobs. She is very familiar with the antics of the breed and has done training with Kona to have a better behaved dog when she is caring for her. Kona is a bit leash reactive but not aggressive to other dogs. Whatever dog they adopt they will drive to meet with Kona to make sure the dogs will get along. That says a lot to me about the people they are.

Their preference is for an older dog 6-7 rather than a young pup. I will check references and then ready for a HV.

Pat Notes from email exchanges: There is past history that banned Johnita from the FB group and private FB pages in which some kind of trouble brewing. When she applied years ago, her Airedale Charlie bit the volunteer doing the HV and therefore she was declined for an adoption. ARG stands by this decline and will not adopt to her again.

                            Dear Johnita:

Loosing a beloved Airedale is always difficult. It is never easy to see our dogs leave us.

Airedale Rescue Group would like to thank you for your interest in and love of Airedales. There are times when Airedale Rescue Group makes very difficult decisions, and this is one of those times. While we are sure you gave Charlie the very best possible home, our past experience causes us to decline your application for an Airedale from our group.

We wish you well in your search for an addition to your family. We are just unable to help at this time.

                            Respectfully,

                            Airedale Rescue Group

                              to me, Jackie

Definitely set up a home visit.
                              Lovely young smart couple.
She had Goldens as a young person, dog died her sophomore year of college. He’s never had a dog.
                              Open to professional training.
Brother’s friend has an Airedale named Piper, Lauren has chatted with her them = local ADT resource.
Looking to walk, run, and hike with the dog. Home during quarantine, wants to rescue instead of puppy. They understood setting up boundaries and slowly opening up the house and their world to the rescue. Talked about crate training.
They are not afraid of dirt/mess. Their cat, who was a ‘porch cat’ from New Orleans until they adopted him, had a drooling problem.
My impression is they are low key, smart, open people and a dog would have a good life with them.
Vet – “Really, really really good owners” – had a cat, got bloodwork, dental and UTD.
Has someone in mind for grooming.
I really liked them. I don’t know if a serious ‘project’ Airedale is right for them bc they don’t have experience.

                              Good stuff.
                              – Julie
