      LOVED!!! Joe Thomas.
76 yo, active man – retired state trooper. Had Dales in the 70’s, spent 2 years with the Chicago obedience team. Understands that things are different. Back then they used choke collars and he understands and doesn’t use them at all. He helped a neighbor who’s dog wouldn’t do anything and now the dog can walk on a leash and get in the car.

Would like a senior dog that needs a home of comfort, and would like dog to be good in the car.

Walks daily, would take to dog park, mentioned there is a creek for dog to enjoy sniffing….I mean, this man gets it.
Fenced in yard that has 2 doors Joe must open. no dog door.

      Needs home visit.

      thanks

I’ve taken care of the tip.
He was a handful. Got out of crate twice. Bit the groomer. (Knuckle graze- vv sensitive tail. He did great job on his nails. He no longer looks like Edward scissor hands. I love this groomer.

hi – Pat, you and I can catch up on phone tomorrow.
Wanted everyone to think about this. No need to contact anyone but we need to think of a possible adopter for Macleans foster Finley. Then, Kevin wants to review the applicant, they want a ‘say’ in where Fin goes. Last night on phone, Kevin said they are only 40-60% going to keep him. So, if you can think of one of our A List/Gold adopters who is in need of dale, please give feedback 🙂

          He thinks that Fin needs:
          A couple
However he definitely need a man in his life
When Kevin returned from his trip, after Chris had care for Finley for the initial days, she became 2nd fiddle and Kevin is King
Not a first time Airedale owner
Someone who has been heartbroken by an Airedale and Finley will fill their heart
Someone who needs a Clancy – that was his analogy about Finley. If you remember Clancy, he was Kevin’s ARG ‘dale who was just a great dog.
          Only dog
Separation anxiety – got out of crate
          consider a flight risk
Sleeps next to Kevin on floor
Finley is an old soul – in mannerisms and behavior

They can keep for another week
Wants us to comb through names. A list gold member.

He says this dog is an Oliver if Oliver had been intervened early. Bay, I know you’re familiar with Oliver

            ARG Home Evaluation

            By: Joseph Klotz

            Applicant:
            Caroline Orman
            512 Metcalf Street
            New Bern, NC 28560
            Phone: 252-622-2293
            e-mail: carolineorman@gmail.com

Size of Home: approximately 2400 square feet

            Setting:
            Semi-urban
            Well-kept
Most floors are hardwood without carpeting. The home is a late 1800’s, early 1900’s home that is mostly restored by owner (some projects still ongoing). Furnishings are newer. There current dog (Champ) an 11 year old Airedale has the run of the first floor and sleeps in the keeping room off the kitchen. He is permitted access to upstairs but prefers not to go up the stairs. The backyard is completely fenced in and is of ample size (about 50 x 70).
The family has 2 children a boy aged 10 and a girl aged 8. Both seem to adore Champ and he responds lovingly to them. During Covid the children have been homeschooled. Mother has stayed home and father works outside the home. The plan is August of this year is for the children to return to classrooms and for Mother to work outside the home, which will leave Champ by himself for the first time in 18 months.
There will not be significant lifestyle compromises as they have had an Airedale for 7 years There are no other pets in the home at this time. They are looking for an Airedale to keep Champ company on days weekdays when all family members will be out of the home, starting in August Watching both children and both adults interact with Champ, its obvious that he’s loved and considered an important member of the family. Champ was a rescue so they have an awareness of the time it may take for a new dog to adapt. They have a vet who they have used for Champ who they trust. Regarding the issue of the dog being housebroken, they want one that is, but expect that accidents will occur.
I believe this family represents a safe and caring home for their current Airedale and would be just as caring of another.
            Conclusion:
I approve this applicant without reservation
            Additional comments:
Ideally, if an Airedale were to become available, sooner is better because that will give Champ time to adjust to a new family member.

              Hi Tamara,

ARG has a 9 yr old female Airedale that has been relinquished. She is remaining with the owner as we locate a new home for her. Her name is Padme (pad-mae) and her is some info about her.

She is a sweet, adult-oriented, 70 pound, exuberant girl looking for the love of a new mom, dad, or both. She has not spent time with children and, as a result, they make her nervous.
Padme was the only dog and had dad’s undivided attention up until a few years ago, but her new mom is allergic and they have been unable to resolve this issue. She has always been possessive of both food and toys. This was not a problem until a new pup came along. Although Padme does not share well, this has not escalated into a fight but has been limited to loud vocalization and teeth showing. Padme is an inside dog who loves car rides and grooming. She is not a fan of other dogs and will need some work with leash walking again.
She is a healthy girl and will be due for vaccines and heartworm testing in the near future which ARG will pay for.

Please let me know if you might consider adding this beautiful girl to your family.

3/5/21: After a review of the responses on the application, this applicant was not given to any of the reviewers. These are the are of concerns:

Based on your responses I am a little confused as to whether or not the area for the dog is fenced or if the dog will run at large on your property. B 1. What type of material is your fence made of?: e. No fencingB 1. f. If “Other” please describe your fencing: We live in the woods, 3/4 of the property is fenced.B 2. What is the height of your fencing?: c. 5-8ftB 3. Please indicate length and width in feet or acres. e.g. 200 ft x 100 ft.: 30 acres

I am also concerned that you indicated there is no leash law in your area; it took me less than 5 minutes to find the law in Lexington County B 9. Is there a leash law in your community?: b. NoCan my dog run loose on my property? The Restraint and Confinement Ordinance (Chapter 10:34) of the County states that all dogs must be restrained or confined at all times.  If the dog is not confined and on its owners property, then the owner must be outside with the pet and the pet must be obedient to the owner’s verbal command.  If there is no one outside with the pet, then it must be confined.  This applies to all property owners regardless of the size of the property.

I am also concerned where a dog would stay when you are not at home.
D 4. Describe how the dog would spend a typical workday or weekend at your home. Where will the dog stay when you are at work or out of the house? : My mom would keep the dog during the day while I was at work.  Either in her house or in our abandoned chicken area.  It’s shaded and fenced in and we still have plenty of fence to make it bigger as the dog does too 🙂

                  polite decline sent.

                      Hi Don and Robin,

I am a new “voice” to you with Airedale Rescue Group. We have an almost 2 yr old female Airedale in the Topsail NC region. She is a typical stubborn Airedale. The family feels they do not have time for her and did not expect as much stubbornness as she has. They also have a young Boston terrier and find themselves more suited to the temperament of this breed.

Penny is a spayed female, due for most of her boosters at the end of April which ARG will pay for.

Please let me know if you would like to chat about Penny.

to Holly, Airedale, bcc: Christina, bcc: Mary

                        Dear Holly,

Airedale Rescue Group would like to thank you both for your interest in and love of Airedales.
After reviewing your application and your preferences, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that we don’t have any Airedales that would be a good fit for you. As you are most likely aware, Airedales and most dogs for that matter, come to the rescue because of troublesome issues. These issues are exacerbated through the surrender and re-homing/adoption process. We see a regression in training/learning, an escalation in aggression issues if present, and acting out just to name a few. We rarely have a perfect Airedale…something we’d all like!!

Stability and consistency are just a couple of ingredients in a successful rescue recipe. Our goal at ARG is to find the best, most nurturing, and permanent home for our Airedales.

We wish you well in your search for an addition to your family. We are just unable to help at this time.

                          Hi, Pat and Christina,

This was another half-baked app with missing info and clear inconsistencies:

A4: She notes she rents and provides us with the landlord’s name but provides no phone number or email to contact her to ascertain that it is okay for her to have a dog in the house. While I initially thought this was an oversight (perhaps she meant to go back and fill it in because she needed to look it up) she also neglects to include a phone number or email for her personal reference.

B3: She notes she has an acre of land. I had a friend in that neighborhood and I don’t think any of those houses have that much property. So, I went to Google Maps and it’s pretty obvious that the property isn’t that large.

C1: She says she wants an Airedale because she had one before but…under E2, when we ask about current and previous pets, type, what happened to them, etc., she just writes: ‘NA’ Which begs the question: did she, or didn’t she?

E5: Name and address of current vet: her reply is NA. Granted she doesn’t now have a dog but I think most people would provide their former vet info since the question references asking the vet to verify what the applicant is telling us.
BUT then she replies in part 2 to the question that, yes, we may contact her vet to verify care.

This could be a big one: E14: Have you ever had to give up a dog? She replies yes, “divorce”. She doesn’t note whether the dog went with the ex or the dog went elsewhere but if I divorced and my dog went with my ex, I would darn well state that!

J1: Personal reference – again, she neglects to provide us with a phone number or email.

I recommend we decline to move forward with Holly Ward.

So very interesting woman has had Airedales practically her whole life, even bred them a long time ago.
Wants a puppy, less than a year.
Stated Coco was brought up with 9 dogs but now has a tough time being cordial with animals outside the home. She thinks she would use a muzzle on Coco when she gets another dog. Electric fence
She’s retired from education last year due to the pandemic .Has a house keeper.
States she is getting an Airedale puppy from breeder Frank Freeman – New Point Kennel either way, she also wants a beagle puppy.
VET: Coco UTD, seen consistently, Lucy 2019 seen consistently but the receptionist said there are many animals but not all seen consistently.
I explained we rarely have puppies (<1yr).
So I'm thinking we put her as a last resort. I don't think she needs a denial letter. I think wants she gets a puppy from the breeder and/or beagle she'll be satisfied with having a full house again.

As a funny, she's so southern I had trouble understanding her for the 1st 5 minutes. ha! DAWG......ha!
