Pat,
I will be glad to do a home visit. I also must say that I have a friend who knows this couple to be outstanding human beings and incredible dog parents, and she is on the board of directors for Humane Educational Society. Thus, her standards for pet care are quite high 😊!
I will wait to hear back from you.

to meHi!
I just submitted our application and am following through with the next step. It doesn’t look like you all have any available by the website, but I saw you all rescued over 40 a few weeks ago. Not sure who’s still available if they are, but we’re a patient family regardless.
I’m looking for an Airedale that is probably a unicorn considering. We really refuse to go to a breeder, but we’ve had zero luck with rehoming atp.
Good temperament
Mostly potty trained (not a deal breaker)
Can handle kids in all age groups
Can handle small, older, skittish, female dog
No aggression (we have small kids)
Likes hikes/walks, but is also a family dog that wants to chill out with us through the day.
Could eventually not use a crate (our dog sleeps on her bed each night without crate).
Preference for female
Would consider a puppy, but would prefer one past the chewing stages
Overall good health
No plans to be a therapy dog at this time, but I guess could if the right fit came along.Typically I’m very slow to commit to a dog. We’ve fostered a few for a few weeks here and there and ultimately they were better suited elsewhere (small kids are hard to fit with sometimes). I’m extremely patient for the right fit because I completely understand the commitment involved.
Let me know if you have anyone in mind for us to consider!

to meHi, Pat, I hope things are going fine! Rudy is doing well. He is very popular at the dog park and is enjoying all the attention and play. I’m working with Dr Cown to find an anti-inflammatory for his hip that doesn’t upset his tummy. We are trying Galliprant now instead of Carprofen, but I think it’s upsetting his GI system too. He doesn’t seem too bothered to still run around even if we skip a few days. I also got an Rx for trazodone anticipating the fireworks at new years and he tolerates it well. I’ve tried a low dose to see how he tolerates it, and it helped when I had a workman here. I’m still struggling a lot with his impulse control inside the house and am not able to have people over yet, but the trazodone could help that for sure.
I apologize for the delay in submitting receipts! I have a few I’ve misplaced that I’ll track down and send later. I’m in a tight spot financially and wondered if we could talk about ARG’s ability to help with some of his food and grooming expenses in 2026. This year I took that on willingly as my contribution but it’s possible I’ll get furloughed again in Feb or laid off in summer.
He continues to be a sweet lover boy and light up my life. As challenging is he is, I can’t adopt him out now even if we could find another home! He is capable of learning and we make progress bit by bit. If Tricia the trainer could come back to help a bit with impulse control and if your offer of forever foster is still available, I think I can make this work and we could take him off the adoption list! He is home with me 💛January 12, 2026 at 3:40 pm in reply to: 25-32 Rudy new Winston, Male intact (crypto), 7-10 yrs old, blind, hip dysplasia, Athens GA (was Chattoonaga TN), Need forever Foster-Jan26 #34583Re: Notes on Rudy

to meSomething I forgot to mention with him following me around poking me is the separation anxiety of trying not to be left behind when he knows I’m leaving. He’s a smart boy and understands “stay and guard the house” means I’m leaving and he’s staying home. I distract him with food while I leave and he tries to run forcefully out the door with me if he finishes the food before I exit.
At the trainer’s suggestion, I use Adaptil pheromone plug in to try to comfort him and leave the tv on for background noise when I’m gone. I think a home with another male dog or with humans home frequently would be ideal. He has such a wonderful disposition—classic airedale sweetness!
Thanks,

to meHi, Pat, here are my notes on Rudy in case they’re useful for your write up. He is such a sweetheart and adorable boy! I’m so glad to see him regain strength and thrive in our home with exercise, lots of food, and a new anti-inflammatory for his bad hip. He is really thriving, climbing into Artie’s car seat in the front of my mini cooper and learning the dog park fence so he can be off leash there if not many other dogs! I wish I could keep him but am not strong enough to keep up with him now he’s feeling better! He would be a wonderful companion in the right environment.
Rudy
Medical notes
Heart worm neg
Right hip:
Daily NSAID for hip
Dysplasia right hip. Hip surgery- recovery time (get info from vet)
CCL effusion
Neutering- cryptorchid
Age question
HousingNonslip Carpeting/rugs needed on hard floors bc he’s afraid of slipping on hard floors
Fenced yard with Secure gates. Tests gates and pulls metal fences with teeth — bungee corded my gates shut. He tries to dig under fence if he wants to be on the other side so he’s an escape artist
I think he’s used to living outdoors in a kennel. He’d benefit from a heated bed in winter for his sore hip. He needs good thick memory foam places to rest and loves donut bolsters and walls on his beds
BehaviorHe’d be best w male dog and no cats. Often trying to hump females (but some males too). Not all dogs- has never tried to hump Artie, his bossy welsh terrier foster brother
Pushes/herds with head and teeth, so although he’s very sweet with humans, he can be difficult to manage around kids (overly excited by kids and isn’t aggressive but too boisterous for them)
He’s likely used to outside living in a kennel and is a big physical presence in a small house because he tests his surroundings with his body
Can be trained to a fence at a dog park but needs to stay on leash at first bc runs fast when excited and hits things. Needs guidance around holes and trees but is not shy about walking outside. I have trained him with my voice saying “Beep Beep!” When he approaches fences off leash, and he’s learned to slow down when he hears that
Used to morning and evening walks/dog park outing and gets boisterous if one is missed. Easily distracted on walks so quiet area easier to walk him in. Recommend same route every time. He is confident walking and a linger leahs is best to help Him avoid obstacles and not pull as much. He sometimes follows Artie in the walk but is fine walking in front of both of us on a familiar route
Longer thick leash for walking better— pulls less. Extender leash not recommended. Cuts leashes (and a seatbelt in car) easily with a little bit of chewing. He has chewed one cord in our house, so watch out for possible frustration chewing, though not a huge issue to date
Thick memory foam for beds. Donut beds or beds w walls best bc rolls over in sleep and falls out of bed
Uses mouth and teeth to sense. Needs reinforcement to stop but hard if he’s excited
Not dog aggressive— trying to hump only issue
Occasional digging— would enjoy a nice pit den. Needs monitoring to make sure not digging out of yard
Here are some more photos. The last one is Artie grooming Rudy’s face! It’s so sweet!January 11, 2026 at 5:31 pm in reply to: 25-49 Nala, F-S, 3 yrs old, CLARKSVILLE TN good with children – prefers her to go to an active family #34567Re: Nala, almost 3 yrs old spayed female

wrote: Good afternoon,
We have a collar and leash. We don’t have a travel crate if you’re referring to that. She usually just rides in the back of my jeep.
We do have her normal crate for sleeping or when we are not home. You’re more than welcome to it, all her toys, and of course her food to help transition her to what you want her on or to continue with that brand.
These are all things that we can have ready and with us if you like her and want her to have them. If not I understand and we can get rid of it!
Please reach out if you have more questions and we can go to a local park or what ever you all are comfortable with to meet her when that time comes.

We have a band tryout on Saturday the 10th and will drive up that afternoon. We’ll find a local hotel nearby for the evening and plan to visit on Sunday the 11th if that’s okay? Do we need to bring a crate, leash, harness, etc?

Hello Brent and Melinda,There’s a super sweet female dog up for adoption, Nala. She was born on April 3, 2023, and purchased from a breeder. She is spayed, weighs 53 lbs, microchipped, eats Purina Pro Plan-Lamb and Oatmeal, as she is allergic to chicken, and takes NexGard Plus for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention; last given 12/17/25. Her vaccinations are good until December 2026.
This pup is full of energy, loves kids over 5, and gets along well with other dogs. She’s crate trained, good on a leash, tolerates grooming, loves car rides, and knows commands like sit, stay, come, leave it, lay down, and crate. She is crated overnight for sleeping or when family goes out. She mostly lives inside/outside but can stay with her current family until a new home is found. The family includes two adults and two kids (13 and 1 year old). She was recently introduced to the 1-year-old as the family was concerned Nala would knock the child down, but she did not.
Nala is good with other dogs, male or female. The family will hold onto her until the right home is found. Nala deserves a family that is active and can include her in activities and spend more time with her.
Please let us know if you are interested.
Grateful,
Pat Hairston
