Hello Tim and Patty – I am an ARG volunteer with Kelly and Pat Hairston.
ARG has a ‘dale who came into our care this spring from a family who decided they no longer wanted her. She had been used for breeding a few litters and they wanted her to have a family life. We took her into ARG foster care in Charlotte where she lived with Barbara Yager in the Fort Mill area with her 2 Females and 1 male ‘dale. She was a delight at Barbara’s home. We placed her with a long time volunteer in Pinehurst area but she and her husband have decided that Lady is more active than they were expecting, after not having a younger ‘dale in a few years. They want her to go to a family where she can be active and play and walk. We wondered if you all would be interested in adopting Lady. I think she would fit in well with Rex, as she lived in a home with multiple dogs before coming to rescue and she did so well at Barbara’s house. Here are some photos too. Please let me know if you have any questions and or thoughts about this. Thanks!
Name: Lady, LadyBug

April 11, 2024 at 2:15 pm in reply to: 2024/2021 Janine Smith, Mableton GA, good fence, no pets Sage April 2024 #31825hi Janine! Wow, you would be perfect for Sage! Thank you for coming forward and mentioning her. I apologize, I should have told you that you were approved and we want to place an Airedale with you. Sage’s owner loves her very much but she has added other dogs (she got married) and Sage does not do well with her husband’s smaller female poodle-ish dog. Sage has other dogs in her life – male and she is fine with them. Sage’s owner said that she thinks that Sage would thrive in an only dog home though. It killed her to write the surrender document to ARG but she knew that it would be best for her, her other family members and for Sage to go through with it.
With that said – do you have a timing that works for you. Sage is near Huntsville, AL. I would set up a transport. It looks about 3 1/2 hours total so likely, we would ask you and Sage’s owner to meet in the middle. Let me know on timing please!!!! I am so excited about this because I am happy for you, for Sage and for her owner too. Bittersweet for her owner.

Describe the home interior: Hardwoods with some rugs. Nice home, comfortable furnishings, special area in living room for dog bed and toys, abundant craft materials in living room, lots of art. OK for dog to get on couch or in a chair. Keeps steps gated unless she takes the dog upstairs.Accommodations: There is a special area in the living room for a large dog bed, a place for toys. Dog would be allowed to sleep in the bedroom. When not at home, baby gates block off a more than adequate area for the dog to be able to move around. The dog would not be left for any long period of time. When she is gone, the dog would remain in gated area of home. She is retired and home the vast majority of the time. At no time is the dog to be left outside when owner is not at home. Unsure about crate, due to arrangements described earlier. Also, the yard is fenced, appeared to be six feet high with locked gate, shaded areas and a covered patio. No chains, pen or kennel.
Children: N/A
Family Environment: One adult, quiet, very interested in spending vast majority of her time with the dog. Quiet peaceful household.
Life-Style Compromises:
The relatively small (compared to my own large) back yard is fenced and there are soccer fields across the road from the subdivision. She has always taken her dogs to the walking path around the fields, usually for 1.5 miles loop/s. From my observations, the only changes might involve getting some of the crafting materials put up and keeping things further back or off countertops. She had no concerns about any changes that might be needed and open to what might arise. Gates are secured.Other Pets: N/A
Owner Interaction With Other Pets:
Describe the relationship all family members seem to have to other pets.
She is a true animal lover, very bonded to previous dogs.
What role will the dog play in applicant’s life?
Majority relationship, top priority.
Are the other pets treated like family members?
They were indeed. Saw more than 100 pictures of her dogs on her phone.
If applicant is looking for an additional dog, or cat why does applicant what another?
N/A
Does applicant believe that the new dog will “train” old dog or vice versa?
N/A
Has applicant ever owned more than one dog or cat at the same time?
Yes, at one point two dogs that got along well.
Is applicant prepared for the increased work, expense [including vet cost], and commotion?
Absolutely.
How committed is adopter?
Very, highly motivated.
What are the owner’s responses to behaviors good and bad? Training, positive reinforcement, trainer if necessary.
Do owners demand perfection or have unreasonable expectation regarding behaviors?
No
Do the owners appear to know some basic training techniques?
Yes
How do the animals react to the owner’s response?
N/AImportant Question to Answer:
Explain that re-homing a dog is stressful for the dog.
That often the rescued dog they want to adopt or foster may have training accidents, even if they are housebroken, while they are in their new home or foster care, for the first few weeks.
Ask the applicant what they would do or how they would react to the new dog having an accident. What was their reply? Clean it up, take the dog outside for a walk, take the dog outside at regular intervals to encourage good bathroom habits. Very positive plans.
Additional Information:
Please describe any additional information about the home environment that you feel is pertinent.
Seems like an almost ideal place for an Airedale. (Ideal is at my house!)
Is there anything in general or specifically that would cause you to feel uncomfortable about placing a dog or cat in this home?
Talked about putting up craft materials until dog’s personality is known. None of other dogs have ever had an issue with the materials.
“Gut feelings” are considered important. Would you feel comfortable leaving your own dog with the applicant?
Yes, and I’m very very picky. She already has a groomer and a doggie daycare lined up.
Conclusion:X. Approve Applicant
X Approve after modifications to the home environment
Please describe:
She is prepared to get craft materials out of reach and moving items back or off countertops. This would involve merely moving some items out of reach and was discussed.
Additional comments:
As the owner of two previous Airedales, Janine is familiar with the breed and waiting to love another into her life. The passing of her last Airedale left a void that she is ready to fill. She is retired, single and home most of the time.
A good description of Janine: warm, welcoming, educated and accomplished. I believe she would make an excellent Airedale mom.

wrote: I am a-okay with that, Kelly! Definitely the right thing to do. I agree, we don’t need that and I don’t think any dog should be put in the position of dealing with her high maintenance attitude. I’m guessing she’s the type that would expect a dog to behave in a certain way with no understanding of why s/he might behave that way, or interest in training the dog to know how she would like him/her to behave.
Remy loses his marbles when we see other dogs out walking. He’s greatly improved but we still have a long way to go. He knew “sit” but that’s it and I don’t think he ever was walked. Add to that the dog next door attacking him in his own yard, it’s not surprising. Imagine if after all that, I just expected him to be a perfect angel on our walks and then got mad at him when he wasn’t!
Speaking of, keep your fingers crossed everyone. A friend and I are going to try to walk together Monday. Her family has an older beagle so about the same size as Remy. We’re going to meet at her house and hopefully with a bit of time and walking (likely on opposite sides of the street, lol), Remy will start to chill and start being comfortable with other dogs. He actually met the dog yesterday and for a moment he was non-reactive but when DougE took a step towards us, he got all reactive I think if we start walking and DougE starts to ignore him as we walk, that he’ll realize he’s ok. 🤞🤞🤞

Hi Mary,
I’ve emailed & texted Mary Beth (on Tuesday as she said she’d call me the day after we had our rather one-sided conversation on Sunday) & haven’t heard back. I’ve also tried to call her but her voice mailbox is full. My gut feeling is that she’s pissed off that it took longer than she thought it should for someone to get back to her despite the fact that you told her I was on vacation & also that I emailed her to that effect while I was gone telling her I’d be in touch when I got back the 1st part of March) I’m going to “cease & desist”. She’s a half bubbble off plumb & we don’t need that crap nor does an Airedale.
Let me know if you’re ok with this. Thanks Mary

I just want to report we had to euthanize Padme this morning. We adopted her in May 2021 at almost 9, after Trevor died in April 2021). Within the last week or so, she began to act not like her usual peppy self and was not eating much, and the vet discovered that she had a non-operable (and most likely cancerous, probably a hemangioma) splenic tumor. Therefore we made the painful, but appropriate, decision to euthanize our lovely girl. As an older dog, she had almost 3 good years with us, and we already miss her.
As has been our habit, we will certainly be open to adopting another spare-dale. Therefore, do not hesitate to reach out to us and let us know if there is anything available that you think might be a good fit for us.
Thank you.

They want another Airedale. However Trainspotting to Alaska before April is not possible.
Consider after April 24
