      Hi John and Maggie.

Happy New Year! And, thanks so much for your patience on this.

I will be mailing a check to you from Airedale Rescue Group for $2600 to help with the costs of Hampton’s care from 2023. Moving forward if you can send me paid invoices on a monthly basis, I can send a reimbursement check each month. That way ARG will have support from National on a monthly basic going forward.

Thanks for loving Hampton and taking such good care of him.

      Hi all,
Just wanted to drop a quick note about Hampton……He visited Dr. Bonenberger yesterday after receiving 4 weeks of antibiotics once again and it was a great visit! He no longer has an infection in his paws. The Linezolid worked great! We have to continue washing his feet weekly because of all the scar tissue he has on those feet and the increased risk of developing infections. She stated that it is not uncommon to have intermittent flares, but overall his symptoms are controlled with low dose methylprednisolone and Cyclosporine. He will see her again in 6 months.

He is a super happy dog right now because he has no pain. It’s a great site to see!!!

Thanks for all you concern and support.

      Happy New Year!

Hello, Maggie & John. Lin forwarded the photos of Hampton’s paw to me that were taken this morning. They look terrible. I’ve looked back to our last communication — I can’t believe it was in April, or at least, that was the last written communication. You had plans to visit the dermatologist this past summer. And I see from your message to Lin that you will contact Dr. B. again.

Based on this ongoing perplexing and painful condition for Hampton, ARG is going to contact National Airedale Rescue (NAR) to see if they have any experience with this condition and if they will consider helping financially.

I’ll be in touch in the next few days and please let me know when you have the appointment with Dr. B.

      Thank You.

I don’t see any issues with this applicant. Young energetic couple with a nice home and great outlook on terriers. They’re definitely keen to have a dog sooner than later and of course tried to ask about Dorothy. Both are willing to do what it takes to make it work daily and Abigail definitely works from home so a dog would have companionship as they adjust to life with them. Great location they live in for walking and enjoying the busy town of Savannah with a dog. Very dog friendly area.

Fencing is definitely over 6 feet tall. And secure from what I can tell. Great sunroom is also on the back of the house. Willing to walk their dog daily as they acknowledge this is a smaller home they live in.

1/12/24: spoke with Tom this afternoon. He grew up with Airedales and the family has had at least 6 since he was young. He saw Fergus and asked Debbie to send a message to apply to adopt him. Both work a few days a week and are home more than they work. They have a 3-year-old Labradoodle that goes many places with them and they walk him daily, even though they have a fenced yard. they understand Fergus’s need for the surfaces and already have runners in their home. They take care of grands at times and have a 3-year-old grandchild and a new one on the way. They have lived in Wilmington for 25 years.

Veterinary: 1/12/24: Talked with Erin at LaCroix 910-799-3100. Blue is UTD on vaccines, and they have a script for Simpirco that expires in July 2024. No concerns, great dog owners, and bring their dogs in when needed.

Talked to Brad who has lived next door for 25 years. Great dog people and neighbors. Tom walks Blue every day without fail. It does not matter the weather. Bard would come back as a dog in their home if he could. Brad was great to talk to and thank me first for being involved in dog rescue and giving my time to that.

            1/9/214: Per Jo
I spoke with both Jordan and Abigail January 9th. They have no dogs currently and are ready to adopt and Airedale anytime. Their back yard has a 6-foot stockade wood fence so no chance of any escapes, front yard is not fenced in. Abigail works from home so she will be able to train and work with a new dog and Jordan works close to home and is usually home early afternoon so a dog would benefit from them both having lots of time to devote to him/her. They live in Savannah and there are so many dog friendly places to go, they would be out and about with a dog all the time. They are very active and young so an energetic, playful Airedale is right up their alley. If they do plan on going away, the dog would go unless they went to their family in MD, then the dog would stay home with a friend watching them in their own home, which is either one of their references.

They have had a Wheaten in the past that had serious issues of biting that led them to get the help of a behaviorist, trainer and using their vet for help for three years. The first day they had him, he bit Abigail but that did not stop them from keeping him and trying to get the best help for his issues. At the advice from his trainer and vet, they reluctantly had to make the decision to let him go. But they tried their best, so I do believe they would make fantastic pet parents again. I would not let this deter them from adopting a dog, whatsoever. Jordan’s side of the family has had Wheaten’s so they are both knowledgeable about the Terrier breed. They understand and can afford the needs and care that is required for a dog to stay happy and healthy.

The vet reference they had on their application is for the vet they will be using in GA for a dog they will be getting. They gave me their prior vet’s name and phone number, Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital. 7515 Brooklyn Bridge Rd. In Laurel, MD. The phone number is 301-776-7744. The vet’s office when I called gave me all their information and they have had their dog on flea/tick and heartworm preventative and always UTD on all shots, also including medication for allergies.

Both of their references gave them an outstanding review, as well. They said they are great, kind, people that would definitely give a dog the best home.

So, they are ready to move to the next step with a HV and adopt an Airedale from us and I recommend that we proceed.

              HOME EVALUATION FORM

To the Home Evaluator: This form can be used when doing a home visit to evaluate a potential family for a rescued Airedale. Adoption or foster applicants you are visiting have already met preliminary criteria by having their Adoption Application accepted and have passed the telephone interview.

When doing a home visit, please attempt to get as much information as asked for on this form. Ask questions, where appropriate, and get as many details as you can about the home environment.
Some of the questions on this form may not apply to a particular home so use your judgment.

If possible, bring a friend or another rescue volunteer with you on the home visit. This helps both for having another pair of eyes and ears to assist you in making a complete evaluation and for your safety.

Typical Airedale of letting you know someone is there @

              Owner Interaction With Other Pets:

o Describe the relationship all family members seem to have to other pets. Great relationship between current Airedale and all family members

o What role will the dog play in applicant’s life? Pet and family member

o Are the other pets treated like family members? Yes, current Airedale sleeps in the bed with parents

o How do the other animals behave? Well-behaved

o If applicant is looking for an additional dog, or cat why does applicant what another? Playmate for current Airedale. Current pet is first Airedale and they fell in love with the breed.

o Does applicant believe that the new dog will “train” old dog or vice versa? Unknown

o Has applicant ever owned more than one dog or cat at the same time? Unknown

‘.) Is applicant prepared for the increased work, expense {including vet cost], and commotion?
              Yes

o How committed is adopter? Totally committed. They have arranged work schedules to be with current pet as much as possible.

‘.) What are the owner’s responses to behaviors good and bad? Very friendly and easy to talk to

o Do owners demand perfection or have unreasonable expectation regarding behaviors? No

o Do other dogs in the home obey happily? Yes

o Are the other dogs out of control and undisciplined? No

o Do the owners appear to know some basic training techniques? Yes

o How do the animals react to the owner’s response? They react right away

              Important Question to Answer:

o Explain that re-homing a dog is stressful for the dog. Told them my experience with Luke. They understand that you don1 t always know what a rescue has been through and that it takes time for them to wind down.

o That often the rescued dog they want to adopt or foster may have training accidents, even if they are housebroken, while they are in their new home or foster care, for the first few weeks. They understand this and they come home at lunch when not working from home.

o Ask the applicant what they would do or how they would react to the new dog having an accident. They would clean it up and not berate the dog.

What was their reply? They know that getting a rescue can be stressful for the dog and that it takes time for them to adjust to new surroundings. They are more than willing to work with a rescue.

              Additional Information:

o Please describe any additional information about the home environment that you feel is pertinent.

o Is there anything in general or specifically that would cause you to feel uncomfortable about placing a dog or cat in this home? No

              o If so, what?

o “Gut feelings” are considered important. Would you feel comfortable leaving your own dog with the applicant? Yes I would definitely feel comfortable leaving my Airedale with them.

              ‘.) Explain.

Additional Suggestions To The Home Evaluator:

              • If you need to take notes during the visit, please do so discreetly on a small note pad, rather than on this form. It is preferred to have the applicants feel at ease with you and to be themselves. Complete this form after the visit is over, when you are not in the presence of the applicants.

              • Qualities to note are sincerity, commitment, tolerance of normal animal behavior, honest representation of the home environment, children’s behavior with other pets, and expected role of the children in pet care. Obtain explanations about the absence of any family members during the visit. Feel free to ask leading questions to begin productive conversation. Often good conversation will reveal far more than questions.

              • Do not make any promises to the applicants or indicate whether or not they will be approved to adopt or foster. Please refrain from discussing any particular animal presently in rescue that may become available for adoption.

No hurry. We rotate the two dogs from crate to being loose so both get to be with us and run in the back yard. This is almost Christmas and I certainly don’t want to upset anyone’s plans. We are fine with Sam here, waiting until after the New Year is fine. We do enjoy playing and loving on him, he is a fuzzy cutie.

                      Hi Daphne-

I am so very sorry that has happened. I know how scary that can be.

Do you think you can get through the next couple of days? Keep Jack kenneled if you need to and alternative time in/out for the 2 of them keeping them separated.

I have several families waiting to adopt. But the one I would really like is not back until 1/3/24! I know you cannot wait that long.

Let me know and we can see if Chris Lincoln can step up and get him into boarding on Tuesday. She is the closest to you in location.

                        12/23/23 Email from Daphne.
                        Hi!

I’m still here! My husband was hacked last week and this is the first time I have done anything online in a week. No TV, no computers, no cell phones….
AND the phone lines were cut by the new phone company putting in fiber optics.
We live on a dirt road and the lines are underground next to the dirt road and cross the road occasionally. Hubby changed passwords, locked all credit cards, closed accounts….etc. I won’t bore you with all the details. I gently teased him the vacuum and washer might be infected as well. He is nothing if not careful.

That is the reason I couldn’t email you concerning Jack. My lab, Henry, decided he was tired of being harassed and jumped on, so he started a dog fight. I was here alone and couldn’t get them apart. I drug the two of them to Jack’s crate (they were attached).
I did finally get Jack in his crate. Jack goes ballistic anytime Henry is close, so I keep them separated. Pat, I was scared to death, they were tearing into each other.
Up till then the two of them were just fine. Incredibly, there were no injuries on either dog. Jack still gets along with my other dogs just fine.

Jack is the sweetest most loveable dog, just too rowdy for my pack. As much as I want to, we just can’t adopt him. I still would like to adopt but an older more settled dog would be better for us. We love the boy, when he gets out of his puppy stage and calms down he will be an amazing dog.

                        Talk to you soon,

                                  From Alysha this morning;

All of his internal organs and labs seem to be normal but his muscular skeletal has significant issues. His left hip is deformed. Looks like it recovered from an old injury. His spine has several vertebrae surfaces at the disc that are inflamed. Severe arthritis.

There is some meds to help with the inflammation and arthritis, but you can’t mix that with heartworm pre treatment.

He ate good last night and this morning. He’s drinking water. He took his medicine. I put it in pill pockets and just put it in his food and he ate it. He slept good last night. He shows no food aggression. I can pet him while he’s eating and one of my dogs was around him when eating.

He wondered the yard with my dogs this morning and did good. Now he’s taking a nap.
