        Pat,
I am going to postpone my inquiry about Dorothy for right now. I turned over my foster dog to his new family today and I did not realize how emotional that was going to be. I had him for almost 7 months and it was tough turning him over. After losing my dog in February and now being without the foster, I feel like I need to take a step back. I want to make the best choice for Dorothy. Please keep my application on file and I’ll request to follow the rescue on Facebook and see what available pups y’all have.

I appreciate you getting back to me so quickly!
        Sincerely,
        Tracy Schaberg

            Hi Pat, Christina
Dorothy has been with me two and half months now. I still see a great , young Airedale . She is very settled in her routine . I do give her freedom to run on the property now (6 acres fenced ) . She has great recall and generally checks in without being called .
She is much more interactive and very much enjoys playing tug and fetch. Previous owners indicated they could not get her interested in anything interactive so I see this as a good indication.
She does seek affection routinely but has to be reminded not to use her mouth to interact (nothing new there for a young Airedale ).
She has great obedience skills, can be very good on leash if you are vigilant with your handling , and she is much improved with regards to general handling and grooming . I suspect much of this is just trust building with her and putting everything on clear, consistent terms. It is very important to be calm and slow with her as she does easily get over-aroused.
It looks like ARG has four dogs looking for homes now and appears Amos has been in the system for some time now. Never a good sign when we accumulate multiple Dales needing homes . Hope that special person is out there for Dorothy . She will take someone committed to her needs with regards to exercise, structure , stimulation and someone with a true understanding of a working type Airedale . But she is a fabulous, sweet, healthy and attractive female Airedale . A real gem for that special person.

We will be on vacation the week of Oct. 6 so she will have to board . Something I still feel will be challenging for her due to all the excitement in those situations. However my young male , Burl , struggles with many of the same things as Dorothy so I don’t find it unusual for a young, high-drive Airedale.

              Several inquiries but nothing serious.

9/5/24 Caroline King with Molly asked about him. Finally connected Gale and Caroline. They will try to meet up this weekend.

Went to George Chance. Did great except George has 2 Wheaten’s and one was jealous. Returned to Gale no fault of Amos.

9/9/2024 I spoke with Rich this afternoon about adoption. He has done a lot of reading about Airedales and feels this is a good breed to adopt. Previously he had a lab and a lab/Rhodesian mix; both were strong-willed, hard-headed dogs. He will do a lot of walking with the dog and may visit his friend’s farm (500 acres), but he will not allow a dog off-leash until he is trained in recall.

He prefers a younger dog and is interested in Maize and then Dorothy. His son, 24 yr veteran of Marine Core who lives in Hampstead NC would take the dog if anything happened ad Rich could not care for the dog.

Vet reference: Shandon-Wood Animal Clinic; Bud was euthanized in 2017 age and illness. They kept him UTD on vaccines, HW preventative and tick control. He was boarded with them when they traveled.

                  Personal references will be checked.

                  HV to be scheduled.

Returning to Paw Pawlor on Friday, 8/29

From Samantha: wanted to follow up with you today and let you know a couple of things about this precious girl. I came home at 3:30, my daughter had left around 1:45, Maisie was in the crate and was lying down, she was fine. She did a small bark at me and I told her just a minute, I wanted to change my work clothes. I spoke very calmly to her and got her out of the crate. She was crazy excited but that was fine. We walked outside for a bit – no potty. It is crazy that she doesn’t potty much!! We put all 4 of our dogs upstairs with Cole and Maisie downstairs with me.

I played with her a bit and then had to get some grading done. I grabbed some toys and she has been fantastic. I talk to her and she checks in with me. I had several toys on the counter and gave them to her one at a time, short play breaks with her and she took a very short nap on the sofa. She got a treat kong and a chew toy. She has been amazing. I worked for about 2 hours and she is so easy!

That being said, she doesn’t know any commands and she did go after one of our dogs (who were double gated) again today so she needs some training. I think if you could find a “no dog” foster home for her, that would work for her. She loves to snuggle, she slept until 9:30 this morning – up at 5:00 to go potty but then she went back to bed with Alex. She loves attention but does not need it 100% of the time.

We just got back from a long walk and again no potty. She has not gone since I have been home.

I just wanted to give you as much information as I can. I want what is best for her and I want her to be happy and spoiled. I hope all that helps.

8/24/24 Foster to adopt Samantha Beckman

8/26/24 Mazie nee Brandy. She bounced on Remy has her paws around her head and bitey face the mouth. I don’t consider that an attack. Wild puppy play.

Going back to Paw Pawlor Friday.

Great! She whined a little when we first put her in the crate but quickly settled down and never made a peep the rest of the night. I gave her a bath and a quick haircut this morning. She didn’t love it but she did better than I thought she would!
