      VC,

I am sorry you are disgruntled. Based on your communications, ARG assumed you rejected him because he had not been maintained on vaccines and heartworm prevention and still required neutering. Therefore, he was offered to someone who would accept his background and the fact he required neutering. As explained, rescued dogs are rarely perfect.

ARG does not know when there will be a dog to meet your expectations, and our team does not know what your expectations are.

      Grateful,

      Pat Hairston

I see from a Facebook posting that Archie is on his way to Georgia somewhere. This makes two times when you’ve asked me about taking a dog , you have rejected me.. I understood that I had right of first refusal for Archie. I guess that was not true as well.I don’t understand why this is happening. I have done everything that you have asked, except I couldn’t get the Poppie the exact day you wanted me because of my surgery. Consider me disgruntled.

          Notes from Nicole, trainer, 3/31/2025:
Good morning! I will get you some training videos today!

So far I’ve been just having her decompress and figure out my house. She’s met a couple people (a fellow Airedale owner and trainer friend of mine) and she was fantastic. Minus some jumping up lol. I did a few obedience things with her yesterday and it does seem like she knows them, just overall lack of reliability/clarity.

Her engagement isn’t great, especially outside. Just in her own world. So my first steps are going to be building value in paying attention to me through a marker system I’ll teach her and pos reinforcement. She’s super treat motivated so that’s extremely helpful lol.

I’ll also get started on teaching her how to respond to leash pressure pretty quickly too so we can build engagement on walks and get some nice leash manners.

Yeah she’s been really great so far! She’s a little funky with spatial pressure when going into the crate nothing bad at all she just looks tense, but she’s in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people so that’s totally normal

She’s met all my cats too. I’ll probably dog test her today or tomorrow!

She’s going to be a great dog for some family

Thanks for getting the records to us.

It looks like Archie is due for everything except Rabies. Since we have a little time, could you get him in to update his vaccines, have a fecal test done and a heartworm test. Based on heartworm test results, please start him on Heartgard.

Airedale Rescue Group can either pay direct or reimburse if cost is an issue.

                  to me, Christina, Airedale

                  Hi Pat,

Great news! My vet did an ultrasound and does not believe Poppy is pregnant. She is scheduled to be spayed on Monday March 31, 2025. She is also heartworm negative. So all the good news 🙂

Once she is spayed I will pay the adoption fee. I believe you mentioned ARG paying for the spay. Do you want to just trade these out? The quote for her spay is $578?

Also, once she is spayed will the microchip be transferred into my name?

Let me know what else you need.

                  Thanks,
                  Corrin

                    to Caryn, Christina, Jo-Anne

                    Hi Caryn-

Thanks for the update and all the info. I am also glad she did well at the vet. Yeah, I have never had one like their teeth brushed!! I wish we did not have to wait so long for her to be spayed, but it is better for her health. Indy, Christina’s girl, has gone through heat, so yo can ask Christina what to expect.

For food, most vets dislike grain-free foods as there is a possibility of cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart); however, that is debatable in the veterinary community. We dislike the Science diet. The Kirkland food is a good quality food, Costco Kirkland Dog Food Review (Dry) | Dog Food Advisor, as shown on Dog Food Advisor. You could try the food with grain and see how she does before switching to another brand. I don’t know about your vet but most vets have a semester of nutrition background unless they are interested in that field and do follow-up continual education.

I think ARG prefers that you sign the foster-to-adopt agreement and wait to pay the adoption fee until she is spayed.

                    Thanks much

                      to me, Christina

I meant to update you much sooner – why do weekends go by so fast?!?

Daisy was so well behaved at the vet’s office. She was definitely nervous & stayed very close to Katharine & I but let the dr & his assistant do what they needed to do without issue. Because she has been on the Advantage since at least July for heartworms, he recommended to just keep her on that until September. (He also wasn’t sure why they didn’t have her spayed before starting the HW treatment which is what he would have done, but nothing we can do about that.) Surrendering owners sent 3 months of Advantage & I will pick up another batch from the Dr in July. In September, Daisy will get a blood test & we will cross our fingers that it is HW negative. If negative, Daisy can then be spayed, get the vaccines that will be due by then and be microchipped all in one visit. (I wanted to get her chipped on Friday but DR convinced me that it is a really big needle and should just postpone to (hopefully) one bad morning for Daisy in September.) We can then decide if we want to continue the Advantage treatment monthly – he also talked about a yearly HW injection which would take place of 12 topical treatments but I will research the cost to see if that is something we want to do.

She weighs 70.2 lbs so she is big for an ADT female, but she is not overweight – he said at the most she could take off 1-2 lbs. She seems solid but little to us because our boys were all really big – 85-90 lbs. Doc also said that he only sees ADTs every 3-4 months but had seen a 10 yo ADT that same morning. Her hips are good; he said they did a good job on her ears from the frostbite. She has a split nail on her front right paw from the frostbite so we will just have to watch & keep it trimmed so she doesn’t get it caught on anything which would be painful for her. He said her tooth should not be an issue, does not need a root canal or anything like that. Otherwise her teeth are in really good shape & she let Katharine brush them last night. We have never had an ADT let us brush their teeth!

We can expect her to probably go into heat between now & September so that will be new for us. She isn’t running loose or anything plus we still need to keep her relatively quiet due to the HW so it should not be an issue.Overall she is in good health!

After the visit we went to the small local pet store where the store staff were very excited to see an Airedale so she got lots of attention & some bonus treats. Daisy picked out some new squeaky toys (she loves squeakers!) and some beef liver treats for her puzzle mat & ball and clicker training – small but smelly 🙂

I wish we didn’t have to wait until September but we want what is best for her obviously and I trust the vet’s recommendations. However, he doesn’t like the grain-free Kirkland Salmon & Sweet Potato which is what we have used for a long time (and I know a lot of ADT owners use it, that is how I even knew about it) and Daisy likes it. But Dr says we should switch to IAMs, Purina or Science Diet – Charlie the 1st started on Science Diet and got really itchy on it -;which is why after a lot of hits/misses, we were so happy with Kirkland. In the early ADT days when we had our puppies, our breeder strongly recommended the raw diet which we did for both. We went to the same vet as her, so while he was not crazy about feeding raw he saw how healthy all of the Airedales were. It was a lot of work and when we moved to NC we had a really hard time finding a butcher plus I had a newborn & 3 elementary aged boys so we switched to a brand of dry food she recommended but I do not for the life of me remember what it was called – I just remember it was expensive and the shop I got it from has gone out of business. I am a little torn about what to do so we will keep using the Kirkland at least until the end of this bag and decide if we want to switch then.

**Daisy came with an XL hard plastic dog carrier (the kind they use on airplanes) – it is really big. She has not shown any interest in it at all and if there comes a time that we need to crate her, we have an XL foldable wire crate. (Just FYI I don’t remember ever using the crate for either Charlies). Can we donate the carrier to someone in ARG? If not, there is a local rescue where I have volunteered that I would like to donate it to. But ARG of course will be my 1st choice. Just let me know, I am happy to transport it somewhere.

Pat, I saw the adoption agreement email so I will save that until (fingers & toes crossed) September.

                      Thanks for all you do!!

Caryn Brockton & sweetie pie Daisy

                        I understand.

I would suggest getting him seen by the vet. It may be a UTI. At least rule that out and then consider behavioral. Neutering may help.

ARG can pay for his vet appointment.

                        Hello Miaka,

I hope Clyde had a restful overnight and he is doing well with Banjo and the cats.

I have attached his prior vet records. I have learned he was neutered in April 2020 and has a microchip. I am working with Home Again to identify the microchip number.

He does need to get on monthly preventative, but thankfully he is neutered. Please have your vet check him and scan for a microchip.

                                Text from Stacy Roper 9/18/24:

Good morning! I took Poppy for her spay yesterday and the vet said she has already been spayed. She thinks Poppy is at least one year old already and said she was likely spayed at around 6 months because the scar is very faint. So I had them do the micro chip and these are the receipts plus the signed adoption paper.

Me too! I noticed when I was brushing her teeth a couple of days ago that she had some yellow stains on them and that doesn’t usually happen until they’re at least a year old or more so I wasn’t shocked when she said that Poppy was older than we had originally thought. But so glad she could see the scar! I would’ve been so sad for Poppy if they had opened her up and then realized it was already done
