        Hi Jamie-

Overall I think great progress. I am sad for you that it will not work with your cats but that you understand that is a gift.

I still wonder if the growling is his talking and maybe one of the reasons for his surrender because of their children. Is the growling with the food when you stand near him? If his bowl is empty can you pick up the bowl without him growling?

It will be interesting to see if his runny nose starts before his appointment at Blue Pearl. I wonder if does can have TMJ- from grinding his teeth? Might be work an ask at Blue Pearl.

I begin thinking about a hime for him. One of our adopters has asked about adopting another. I don’t think there are children but there may be grands there occasionally. I will do my research.

Thank you for giving him so much and loving him. We really do appreciate you!

        Grateful,

        Pat

          to me

          Hi Pat,

Just wanted to provide an update on Tootles. Doing very well – super affectionate, loves his toys, respectful towards everything else such as doesn’t jump on counters, doesn’t mistake a non-toy, and while wants human food, is respectful when I’m eating, just overall a super lovely boy. He still growls, and still hard to tell what it means. Growls when playing together with his toys so that’s playful, then growls with his food sometimes so that’s food aggression, and then growls sometimes randomly, and the other night he kept going until he then sounded like he was whining/in pain. But other than that, he doesn’t seem to be in actual pain. Maybe he can’t see at night and when he growls at night that’s why …. so many thoughts! He still does that jaw thing and when I don’t give him any more attention he stops, but he does seem to do it more after he sleeps too.

He needs a home without cats – he’s too interested and now obsessive, sitting outside the closed door with gate, waiting to catch a glimpse of perhaps a cat shadow.

To me, he’s good on a leash (with that training collar), until he sees a dog, and then barks alot and wants to go to the dog. But he loves his walks! He went to doggie daycare on Saturday – he got an A! He loved making new friends, and said he was shy but sweet. They observed the growling but didn’t think it was aggressive. I was so proud of him! So we know he’s good with dogs, just doesn’t know how to act when he sees one from afar.

I think he’d love a home with more activity too – I do work full time here at home, and although I try to play and let him out multiple times a day, I think he might be bored a little bit with just me! Hence the doggie day care!

I love this boy! While I had hoped to maybe adopt him, I think with the cats, it’s not the best fit.. He’s going to make a family very happy – he’s such a good boy!

No issues with the nose yet, he’s been off the antibiotics for a week or more now. He does have some crusty areas on his skin, but with the grooming, I think they’re healing with being more open to the air. The groomers were too scared to clip his nails, so I took him to his vet last week and they did a great job clipping his nails – they said he was less growly than last time! They adore him too!

          Talk soon!!!

              Hello!

I completed an application for the ARG last year & would love to foster/adopt an Airedale. I noticed on the website another recently became available. Are there any next steps I can take in order to be considered for adoption?

              Thank you!

Will reactivate application and schedule home visit

Overall, the bloodwork was fairly good except for a slightly low Na:K ratio and slightly low albumins. Since there is no history of intermittent GI signs and the Na is well within the normal range, this is probably an insignificant finding. Monitor for recurrent GI signs. A urinalysis and blood pressure should be checked to look for any protein loss through the kidneys.

                  Heather,

I am sorry to hear this but we do understand and will always work to rehome one of the Airedale’s we placed.

Please give me an update photo and send his current veterinary record reflecting what was done for his seizure. This is sad news to hear and I hope either does not occur again or is manageable.

                  Thank you for reaching out.

Our son has also decided to go away for college next fall. Because of this, Chauncey is ending up spending too much time in his kennel.

                    > Second, Chauncey experienced a seizure three weeks ago. We’ve taken him to our vet a few times and they ran several panels of tests but haven’t found any issues. They are hoping it was an anomaly. Either way, seeing him have a seizure brought back our last year with Watson. Emotionally and financially, we aren’t ready to relive those days we had with Watson, our last Airedale.

to Hayley, bcc: Jackie, bcc: Christina, bcc: Mary

                      Hayley,

Airedale Rescue Group would like to thank you both for your interest in and love of Airedales.
After reviewing your application and your preferences, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion an Airedale from our organization would not be a good fit. As you are most likely aware, Airedales and most dogs for that matter, come to the rescue because of troublesome issues. Many times health issues, including heartworm infections, which are preventable, require hundreds of dollars to treat and months of kennel rest and leash walking.

Airedale Rescue Group requires the dog we take in and place in adoptive homes be maintained on heartworm preventative. Because heartworm preventative products are not used for your current dog, we will not consider an adoption of an Airedale.

We wish you well in your search for an addition to your family. We are just unable to help at this time.

                      Sincerely,, 910-200-5890

The applicant is being declined because they do not use HW preventative and claim it is “not needed in their area”. I am very familiar with the Goose Creek, SC area and HW preventative is necessary. If they were to reconsider and show proof of use via veterinary receipts for a product, their application would be reconsidered.

                          to me, Christina

                          Hi, Pat,

Here are my notes on Hayley Walker:

Vets: I called Horry County Animal Hospital and Old Trolley Road Animal Clinic, the two most recent vets she visited and both confirmed that she had brought her dane/lab mix in for vaccinations. Old Trolley saw her most recently for her dog’s rabies vaccination on 1/8. No other visits on record.

Reference: I have tried a number of times to reach her reference, Lauren Mac, but her voicemail is full and no longer accepting messages.

Hayley and her husband live outside Charleston. They do indeed have a fully fenced, solid wood (plank to plank) fence (the benefits of having Google Earth, lol!) that looks to be 5′ tall.

I asked about the two dogs that were stolen when she was younger. She said they lived out in the country and someone had cut the lock and stolen them while they were away so it does not seem it was because of a lack of care that the dogs disappeared. In addition to the dog being chipped and tagged, they will implement social media should the dog get lost somehow.

They both work the weekend shift but have arranged for someone to be there to care for both the new baby and the two dogs.

Their current dog is not currently on heartworm medicine. When I asked her about this she said that there wasn’t a need in their area.

They already have plans to introduce the two dogs.

They prefer a puppy so they can train it. I noted we don’t get puppies very often and asked how long they are willing to wait for a puppy. She said they’ve already waited a few years so they don’t mind waiting longer.

On the application, Hayley mentions the dog would go to her mother, who also loves Airedales, but I noted that should there be a problem, she would be required to return the Airedale to ARG.

I don’t find this applicant to be a resounding “yes” but she and her husband are probably worth a home visit for when we have another puppy available. They’re young, which does make it harder to have long term records/relationship with a vet (plus having recently married and moved, they’ve changed vets. She is familiar with the breed and she loves the temperament of the Airedale. I thought it odd when she said “I wouldn’t say they’re the smartest” but since the Airedales she had as a kid were back-yard-bred by her uncle, perhaps the breeding wasn’t very good.

                            Hi Cara and Aaron,

We have a female Airedale about 18 months old that is surrendered. She is still in her home. She will be a work in progress. Millie has a high prey drive, has killed chickens and we are recommending a home with no cats and no small dogs.

Millie is said to be a sweet dog, high energy, still does some mouthing which will need to be corrected, has not had obedience training, she is house trained, has not been on a leash is a long time, and loves car rides. She sleeps in bed with her people.

Millie will need a full veterinary workup, a spay, microchip and heartworm test. She has not been on heartworm preventative. ARG will pay for this veterinary care. ARG is open to a foster to adopt scenario to see how she does and get her medical care up to date.

I have attached a photo of her when she was a little younger.

Please let me know if you would like to talk about her.
