The more I read about interdigital cysts, the fact that the former owner and his vet’s efforts failed to cure Hampton, and that your vet, even in consultation with NC State, has not had success tell me that the cycle of allergies and cysts is intractable. Your vet and NC State have probably done a thyroid panel on Hampton to rule out hypothyroidism. Are the cultures coming back with the same bacteria and sensitivity to the same drugs? After that many cultures and 4 different antibiotics and Atopica, I think I would go forward with the laser surgery if the vets believe it will be curative.

Please allow ARG to pay for what he needs. I told you we would pay for the antibiotics but I have not followed up to find out what you’ve paid. We will pay for your vet’s services as well as the consult with NC State, the Atopica, and the surgery.
Please ask your vet to forward to us a copy of your invoices since we last paid for his treatment and we will reimburse you for what you have paid or pay the vet for any outstanding costs. Please forward to us any estimate that NC State gives you or your vet for the surgery so that we will be prepared to cover the costs.
Finally, I am so sorry that Hampton has had to endure all the pain and discomfort of this condition. And, I am so sorry that you are faced with taking care of Hampton who perhaps faces continuous problems with his paws and skin. I know that this is not what you had in mind when you adopted him. ARG certainly didn’t know how bad his condition was and, as you’ve experienced, even with a dedicated veterinarian and the help of a veterinary medicine college, it is a very difficult condition to diagnose and treat. That is why we insist that we pay for his treatment from now on.

It’s been awhile since we’ve communicated, so we thought we’d send you a note on the current health of our boy, Hampton. As you know, his feet have been a real challenge with the interdigital cysts, and his allergies also create a problem with his skin erupting with a rash. Recently he had minor surgery to remove a wart from between the pads on his foot and while under anesthesia, Dr. Rickman took a sample of the discharge coming from his foot so it could be cultured. This was the second time the foot has been cultured and sent for antibiotic sensitivity and about the fourth different antibiotic he has been placed on. He is on Hills Prescription Food for sensitive skin as well as Atopica (an immunosuppressant) for the allergies. But, we can’t seem to clear up the infection which must have been fulminating for a long time.
Dr. Rickman has communicated with NC State Veterinary School for guidance and at this point will once again contact them because we’re doing what they suggest and it’s not curing him of the cysts. It was mentioned that he may need lazar surgery to remove them, but we don’t know if we’re at that point yet, and who would do it.
Hampton still remains a sweet, lovable and happy dog but when these cysts erupt, he is in a lot of pain and we can’t help feeling bad for him. It upsets us to see him that way. But, we will persevere to do whatever we can to make him healthy and to keep him happy.
We’ll keep you posted on his condition as we move forward. Hope you are both doing well!

John and Maggie Finnerin8/30/2022: Alcie is a 3 YR Old female Airedale rescued off Craigslist that still needed to be bottle fed. She is sweet, loving and cuddly. Sleeps with her people in bed, Farm dog that is trained to watch over her fowl (chickens), Loves children and babies, good with their barn cats, house trained, good in house when left alone, loves to watch the Waltons and Secret Lives of Pets.
She is not good with very small yappy dogs ( Chihuahua) that bark in her face. Enjoys the company of a standard poodle.
Does have some anxiety with changes and will act out by chewing paper, destroy a book or magazine.
Not crate trained.

After reviewing your application and your preferences, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that we don’t have any Airedales that would be a good fit for you. Our concern is your long work hours and the challenges of adding a third dog to your home. Many of the rescue dogs we receive have needs that would not fit with the long hours that you work. We feel it would be essential for the adopted dog to adjust to having a home with someone who works shorter hours.We will keep your application on file. In the event, your work hours change we would be happy to reopen your application and continue where we left off.

to infoI am so grateful, thank you from my heart. They sound as though they will provide a good home. Yes, I can certainly wait.
I have the usual stuff for a dog of Baxter’s size… large bed, bowls, leashes, collars etc. I will be sure he comes with at least two week’s worth of food, four months of flea, tick and heart worm protection. And of course, his toys! I will write out notes about him so they will understand him more easily. Is there anything else I need to gather for you?

We have great news! We have a wonderful home for Baxter. Ben and Jess live in Knoxville and Ben grew up with Airedale. Their last Airedale was 10 years ago. Up to now they just have not been ready to give their hearts to another Airedale. When Ben read Baxter’s need to be rehomed, this touched him. We have been able to review his application, check references and in record time complete a home visit today.
Ben and Jess would love for Baxter to join their family along with their 14 year old blue heeler,Jack, and 4 year old great dane, Moose. Both Jack and Moose are neutered, keep current on vaccines and heartworm
prevention and love other dogs.Ben and Jess have an obligation to be out of town the weekend of 9/9-11 and they would rather not bring Baxter home and have to board him so soon.
Would you be ok with Baxter relocating to Ben and Jess the week of 9/12. If so, we will confirm arrangements as the time

We have an out of town trip scheduled for the 9th and 10th and really do not want to leave him overnight, especially after such a drastic move. We are really looking forward to bringing him in and getting him incorporated into the “pack!”
Please let us know what we need to do to finish the adoption process.

I am working with a Lab Rescue in NC and they have a $20 application fee! It goes toward the adoption fee but I found interesting that they charge an application handling fee!Christina Prange

8/25/2022: Called Riverside Vet and spoke to Connie. Glowing review. Moose (4 yr old great Dane) and Jack (14 yr old blue heeler). Vaccines are all up to date and preventative.
Did an overview of property on Truilla and Google. Property backs up to railroad tracks. The fence is said to be 5-8 ft, but images should a 4 ft picket fence (could be old images).

That sounds wonderful, I’m so excited for Rosie! She was taught both “Leave It” and “Stop.”
Stop was taught in reference to “No” I believe. If she needs to know a behavior is incorrect, she responds to the word “Stop.”
We absolutely can keep her until 8/20. She is up to date on all medical and will have a fresh groom by then as well.

I was thinking she would be a good fit for you all – she is only 51lbs! Her name is Rosie and I can tell she is very loved but she would do best as an only dog. She likes to be the boss of other dogs and is living with other dogs and its not working out. Here is some info about her. Please let me know if you’d be interested and we can proceed. Rosie’s previous owner is deploying in a few months, and will be out of the country for 3-5 years. Rose is spayed, up to date on all medical, very sweet with children and adults, but is best as the only dog, or only with big assertive dogs.We have two other dogs, one of which is a small Jack Russel mix who is terrified of her.
