July 21, 2020 at 9:49 pm in reply to: HOLD for HV -Bruce Narolis, Morganton, NC, Not ADT exp., NO FENCE, 0 pets, 0 kids, 0 hr alone #25120From Julie 7/21: Has had goldens/yellow labs
watches friends Airedales
1/2 acre, no fence, behind house wood lot with stream – we talked about prey drive, wet beard, dirt, mud. Said he’s ok with it.
Asked him how he would deal with a ‘difficult dog’ (bc that’s what we have), He answered ‘with a leash’.
For example, another friend had unruly Irish setter, he watched and taught it to sit/stay within a day, by leash. No mention of positive reinforcement, nor treats, nor doing things slowly.
Wants to meet dog to see if there is a connection, doesn’t just want to get a dog. Willing to drive to different parts of NC to meet dog before making a decision.
Hasn’t had a dog since around 2011. Will text me vet information.Julie is left with an uneasy feeling about an adoption of an Airedale by Bruce.
July 21, 2020 at 9:09 pm in reply to: Susan Kinnamon, Mt. Holly, NC, ADT exp., Current Welsh, 0 kids, 9 hr alone #25118From Julie 6/30: I ended up called Susan Kinnamon, after I called her vet/groomer and the reference was great. She wanted a calm, small airedale for her 9 year old Welshie.
I spw her about we are a rescue and they are there for a reason.Keeps dogs in the laundry which has washer, dryer, cabinet, sink and 2 dogs beds. Sounds tight. Only allows them in laundry room, kitchen, tv room and porch. She did have the capability to go home at lunch. Her Welshie is a social butterfly and the airedale would have to be able to meet and greet people and children. Again explained rescue dogs have issues.
She’s also looking for a Welshie rescue. Long story short, I helped her see that Airedale rescue is not for her.

June 17, 2020 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Susan & Husband Yahn, Bluffton, SC & NC, ADT exp. & current, Wheaten #249986/17/2020 from Julie: Loved her! She’s 67 yrs old, no health issues.
Definitely waiting until Miss Emma passes. Has electronic fence for all 3 dogs in the past and 1 cat (now). She understands that she will have to train the new dog. she will contact e-fence company if she needs help with training. Also will take dog to training for them to bond. Would like a youngish dog for Fletcher’s friend, one that needs socialization. Best option is a swimmer. Reminder her we can’t guarantee a swimmer ‘dale. The only unacceptable rescue dog she will not accept is aggression as she has 7yo and 7mo grand daughters.Move forward with HV for when ready.

May 1, 2020 at 6:28 pm in reply to: Levi Butler, CLOSED, Atlanta, GA, Not ADT exp., 0 pets, 0 kids, 0 hr alone #24793Update by Julie 5/1/2020: Levi Butler,
Retired, hasn’t had a pet for 10 years, no fence. He has the chainlink ready to go but not up yet. I spoke about the importance of a fence due to squirrels and other small animals. The fence would only be a pie shape not the whole yard.6 years old would be too old for him.
He likes to walk however knees give him alittle trouble.
Has never had a terrier, we spoke in length about terrier personality, and lover of earth, dirt and water. He mentioned that may be a little too OCD for him.
He is also looking at a Labmix he saw on Petfinder. I tried to guide him to this dog as a better fit.
He wanted me to keep him on the list for a young Dale but I don’t think that’s a good idea due to issues above. Nice guy but I don’t think a good match.
thanksApril 22, 2020 at 6:12 pm in reply to: HOLD for HV -Jennifer & Stephen Anderson, HOLD, Atlanta, GA, Not ADT exp., 1 dog, 2 hr alone #24740Julie: home verified 4/22 Rec’d BY photos, although she told me that they yard would be cleaned up and a new gate installed, I think the yard is not big enough or safe enough. Pat will send photos to Jackie for review.
4/21 Applicant is friends with Krissie Axon who has an Airedale – I think rescued. Has a chihuahua 20 lb ok with other dogs. I liked her seems to understand the breed and wants to ‘rescue’ someone. I think it would be a match with Zoey – due to eye issue. Concerns – Chihuahua vaccine exp 2017. Is calling to get him in soon. Is going to send BY photos – says it’s contained but needs new gate. would like photo of Zoey’s eye. I explained the breed.

April 19, 2020 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Jessie & Michael Sheran, Nashville, TN, ADT exp., 0 pets, 1.5yo child #247204/19/20: Spoke with Jessie. Have an 8 yr old and a 1.5 yr old child. NOTE: In between the loss of their Airedale and application they had adopted a 14 month of berese-airedale mix that was extremely fearful of men. They ended up rehoming it with her sister who is single and the dog has done well there.
They are continuing to look for a dog to adopt. I would place these folks on low priority as they want a dog sooner then ARG will likely have one.
4/19/2020: Now has an 11 month old Collie. Application closed.
