      Annecy Airedale

      to me, Jackie
      Hi, Pat,

I spoke with both Mark and Jada Cruse today. It was a good call and they confirmed much of what was in their ATRA application.

They live in a very rural area of TN. The mention in their app that they have 2 acres fully fenced and today told me that they’ve actually just bought 2 acres next door for their oldest daughter (no longer living with the family; she is the first of 3). They are very dedicated to Airedales and spoke with me about their previous ‘dales, Bella and Delta. Delta passed away a few months ago and their current puppy, Stella, who will be 1 YO this coming Tuesday, has been despondent.

They take the dogs with them wherever they go, including Jada taking them (now, just Stella) to her grooming shop. The dogs are crate trained and may or may not be in the crate at the shop. Their dogs past and present often are in their crates without the doors being closed, seeing them as their safe, happy place.

Since they put in their application with ATRA, they have adopted another dog their two teenage daughters fell in love with at a pet store. But, they are interested in fostering if there is a need. And would happily take on a third dog if they fall in love with the foster.

I let them know that as far as I know we don’t have any available ‘dales but I would be updating you on our conversation and if there is a need for a foster in the West TN area, we would have someone come by to do a home visit.

They definitely seem like they would be a good Airedale family and clearly have a love of the breed. The home itself seems like it would be a good family home for a dog.

RE: their grooming business: Humboldt Grooming Palace has a 5-star rating on Google reviews, from 5 reviewers. On Facebook, they have a 4.7 out of 5 rating. Both good signs that they have positive references from others

I just spoke with their vet, Dr. Hicks, and she told me they have indeed been bringing their pups their regularly and that they keep them up to date. She said they would definitely be a good family to either adopt or foster.

      Best,

      Mary

          Hi Pat,

Right now I’ll pass. I adopted a Welsh Terrier and he’s fabulous. Thank you for following up.

            Pat,
So good to hear from you. I wasn’t worried when I hadn’t heard from you. I figured things weren’t going to happened as planned. However it probably has been good that we didn’t rush into getting an Airedale. We have decided not to adopt, however we would love to send a donation to your rescue group. Who should I send a donation to?

I have a wonderful 5 yr old Airedale that I keep when her mom & dad are busy. If we were a few years younger we would love to have an Airedale of our own.

            Nancy,

I apologize for the very long delay in reaching out to you by Airedale Rescue. The status of your application was that a home visit is needed.

Are you still interested in adopting a rescued Airedale when an appropriate match becomes available? If yes, then I will locate someone in your area to conduct a home visit.

Thank you for your interest and patience.

                Hi Alysha,

We just wanted to let you know that you are APPROVED to adopt an Airedale through ARG. Christian would gladly have you care for his dogs and that is an unequivocal recommendation and we agree.

We do not have an Airedale for you currently, but it should not be difficult to match one to you since you have no serious restrictions. In the meantime, thank you for your love for Airedales and for considering a rescued Airedale.

1/9/2021 – Christian had gotten a Welsh Terrier for his father and the pup was too much for his Dad so Christian has the pup. He is not in the market to adopt for a while.

                        to Mary, me

Hi, Mary Ann. Thanks for your summary of your interview with Nancy Merritt. Just an FYI, we always do a home visit after the interview (if the interview was acceptable). Did you ask about the Airedale who just died in November? Before you can call the vet, you need the names of this last one at least. Did she have an explanation for the one who died so young of liver failure?

If you haven’t yet, please call her vet for a reference and her personal reference. For the vet, you’re looking at whether her animals were kept up to date on vax, were seen regularly, were using heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and whether they thought she would be a good Airedale mom. For the personal reference, just ask about how long they’ve known each other and if they think Nancy is a good dog mom.

                        Thanks, Mary Ann.

Did my interview with Mrs Merritt seems very familiar with Airedale temperament. Discussed the dogs she had lost to cancer and she had pursued their diagnose as far as it was humane to do. The one who died at 7 was in 89 and she really didn’t remember cause since it was quite some time ago. We talked about fence she is willing to send us a picture. Appears to be proactive when it comes to the horses. Appears to be a nice lady on the phone. Asked about vacations and takes her dog with her whenever possible and has someone come in when not able to do so. The whole 4 acres is fenced but she is aware that this is a lot of room for a dog to have free access to said she would be willing to fence off smaller area for a dog. I am comfortable from the conversation that she would be a responsible dog owner. Probably might not be a bad idea to do a home visit if we have someone in that area. She is near Charleston SC. I know I have rambled hope this is helpful.

Pat & Rick will be forever foster for Maggie, the almost 12 yr old female surrendered in Wilmington NC. She has mobility issues (bad hips), multiple lipomas, and sebaceous cysts.

Hey Pat! Good news. We unexpected landed ourselves a puppy from a small farm in Illinois. She’s 12 weeks old and has been here for two days. Regarding our visit, I’d still like to be on the Airedale rescue list in the future. If it still makes sense to keep our appointment, great. If you think it may be moot then we can always move forward again in the future but I just wanted to let you know. Her name is Ginger and she’s been unbelievably sweet and behaved. She’s a dream pup. Anyway, just wanted to keep you posted!

                                From Stew:

Well, here is my quick evaluation. He is a gentle giant. Very thin, afraid and cowers if I try to force direction. BUT he will come when asked along with a gentle pull. His first response is to run. But my neighbor walked in and walked over slowly and he didn’t run or flinch. I put a trainer harness on him because he can pull off the collar.
I’m very upset with these young Buckhead families that can’t stick with a scared dog long enough to find out how great it will be.
He leans against me outside and lie under me inside. I can’t understand what went wrong.
Anyway, let’s get him to Wendy ASAP before he gets attached to me and I get divorced.

Wendy is picking up in a little while.
