Hey Pat, Dr Gallman wanted me to relay that Tootles did well with the lung stuff, it’s off to the lab – should get one answer by about 5pm, and then 3-7 for more answers. He’s coming out of anathesia now, they’re monitoring him closely.
He will call with the 5pm news and how he’s doing – we talked a bit about the meds. He’ll be on two, mostly for life he said, one once a day, and once every 3 days. Since one of the meds is an anti-inflammatory, we can try taking him off tramadol too.
I can’t remember the names of the meds… but they’re for nasal disease/chronic rhinitis. He said this is all good news, doesn’t think it’s a mass….I can’t remember all the other stuff, I held his ear for a while lol!June 6, 2021 at 12:52 am in reply to: 2021 Tootles, Male/Neutered 5 yr old, 87 lb Huntsville AL Deceased Jan2023 #275376/5/2021: Dr. Santana called with an update.

to Jackie, ChristinaTootles bloodwork is indicative of an inflammatory response. His xray shows pneumonia in one lower lobe. He is asymptomatic for pneumonia (no temp) so at this time he will be on fluids and given oxygen for supportive care. No antibiotics will be introduced at this time but could be if indicated. It is likely aspiration pneumonia due to inhaling his nasal discharge.
He is being transferred to the medical group on Sunday for his care and follow-up. Tuesday would be the earliest he might have more diagnostics done.

6/5/2021: Unsuccessful telephone call with Blue Pearl, talking with Jamie we agreed she would follow-up with her vet practice after a restless night and seemingly lethargic, not wanting to eat. She talked to the on-call vet and he suggested Tootles be taken to Auburn University Veterinary School.
Tootles was admitted to the vet school for observation and care with the need to transfer him to the medical group that can do the nasal scan.
approx. 6 pm: Estimate for hospitalization for 2 nights and care with chest xrays and bloodwork, $1500. $750 deposit paid.

to Jackie, ChristinaJackie and Christina,
Tootles is at Auburn University Vet Hospital.
He is stable with severe nasal discharge.
Dr. Santana agrees he needs a nasal CT/scope which we are hopeful can be done early next week but will not know until Monday when they try to schedule it.
I have authorized bloodwork and chest xrays so those tests are done in advance of the nasal study and to determine if there is anything else going on. Estimate through Monday is $1000 to $1,500; ARG will pay $750 today.
Estimate for nasal study $2,500 to $3,500.
Possibilities of a) foreign body, 2) yeast or fungal infection, 3) neoplasm (abnormal tissue that grows by cellular proliferation more rapidly than normal and continues to grow after the stimuli that initiated the new growth cease.), 4) cancer. Vet is less likely to support cancer because there is no blood.
Vet will call in AM with update or I can call and check on him later.
There are a lot of ifs but this is the right direction for a diagnosis.

to JoiHello Joi,
I wanted to provide you an update on Tootles appointment today.
Much to our disappointment, the appointment was a consultation and examination but did not include the nasal scope. We feel strongly this is a needed procedure to understand the extent of his issue and rule out any serious issues. So, at this point, I am waiting to hear back from the practicing veterinarian.
He is going to the vet he has been seeing since arriving in foster care this Thursday. I will be calling and reviewing if a head xray can be done to determine if there are any teeth cracked that could be causing an issue. We are also discussing some allergy issues he seems to be having and the foster is starting him on Zyrtec to see if that is helpful. More expensive prescription medications were suggested, however, the foster and I agree a more conservative and cost-effective approach needs to be taken first.
I am sorry there is no answer for you yet.
Grateful,
—

Her emails are nasty and she seems to never be satisfied with what is communicated or just plain does not read the emails.
I recommend ARG not allow her to foster again and I would question adopting another dog to her. – Pat

Thank you for the updates! We are so excited to welcome Millie into our Family! Gilda, our 5 yo Resident Aire Girl is looking forward to her arrival as well!
Our ideal plan is to drive to Savanah on Saturday June 9, stay overnight, pick up Millie early Saturday morning, June 10, and drive Home.
Gilda will be staying at her favorite Doggie Hotel or Auntie’s House. We plan to introduce them on neutral turf, and bring them both home.
Please let us know, if our ideal plan is doable.
Sunny regards,
Vicky & John Dennehy

To: Pat HairstonMillie is ready now but there is a booster shot on Friday. She will have her spay stitches removed on June 1. These 2 issues can be completed with their vet So I will say any time they wish to come . We are living in Winston Salem(outskirt in Pfafftown ) That said please just let me know .. what ever you need us to do we will try any of the plans . P.S. we had 90 degree weather today and Millie loved lying in the sunshine on the deck with her post-surgical shirt on so she will be a great FL pup also just in case this got lost she must sleep on the bed and she can catapult onto the highest of them ;-}

Hello Vicky,I have some news for you. The folks interested in adopting Millie had to sadly decline her because she does shed some. The woman has allergies and was concerned Millie would cause a flare.
If you would want to adopt Millie, she is available for you.
I have and will not contact anyone else until I hear from you.
Thank you,
