8/20/21: Based on photos of her location and being an ADT owner, we collectively feel an HV is not needed. Kristen is approved for an Airedale and with the consent of the Board: Jackie, Christina and Pat.

          Kristen will be offered Zella.

            Applicant name: Kristen Shaw

            Date of phone interview: 8/18/21

            Status: Approved for home visit

I had a great conversation with Kristen Shaw. The dog who ends up with them is a very lucky dog indeed!

The couple has no children so Kristen’s time off work (she works 4 days/week) is focused on her dogs. She has a deep interest in dog behavior and training, and she is always reading up on pet related research/information. They generally always have two dogs, only having just one after one passes before they are ready for the next.

The Shaws’ dogs have lived good long lives and per the vet, North Greenville Animal Hospital, they keep their dogs up to date with flea/tick/heartwork meds. Currently, Louie, is on Frontline and Heartguard. Louise had a dental in March and Kristen regularly cleans his teeth (a few times a week). Kristen does all her grooming herself. Louie sleeps with them on the bed, although he knows he is not allowed on the downstairs furniture.

Louie goes to daycare once or more times per week has regular playdates with other dogs. Per Kristen and her personal reference, who is also their dogwalker, Louie is a great dog who is well socialized and gets along very well with other dogs. The Shaws purchased Louie from Sugar Grove Airedales when he was a puppy; he’s 5 now.

The Shaws have a pool so I asked about that and whether Louie was trained to stay away, etc. Kristen told me she trained Louie not only now to get out of the pool, but also how to get in the pool so that if he ever fell in by accident, he would be comfortable swimming and getting himself out. Every summer when they reopen the pool, they go through this training again. Currently only the area around the pool is fenced but they plan to fence in the entire yard now that they are ready for another dog. Louie has been trained to stay with them and has great recall so he’s never run off. The fence is a 5’ aluminum ‘wrought iron’ style fence. Their house backs up to a wooded area and they are close to a golf course so there are plenty of places for walking.

In addition to their Greenville home, the Shaws have a home in the North Georgia Mountains and on Hilton Head Island.

Kristen and Tony would not be averse to an ADT-mix. Kristen noted they would “probably prefer” another female, although they’d like one that is more standard size in the 50-60 lb. range. They also would prefer a young adult – over a year but less than 5 so the dog would be a good play/companian match for Louie. She has been looking at the ARG website for quite a while but waited until their Beagle-mix, George, passed and they were ready for their next dog before reaching out to us.

Kristen would be interested in volunteering! She also volunteered up photos of both Louie and their house so we could see his home situation (we should all be so lucky to be their dog, lol!). I’ll send those in follow up.

8/20/21: 9:40 pm: Text last night late from Michel St Ores:

Pat- Its Michele St. Ores again. I think its time to surrender Jasper. I moved to Smyrna in with a woman from former biblestudy and thought it would work out well. And it was going okay for a while. I got a job and then the one I thought I’d lost out on came thru. I also recieved an email from the counseling exam company and it is ready to schedule the exam after waiting over a year to get communication from my exam rep who had been out with covid for over a year. So thousands of us trying to gain TN licensure that had her experienced the same thing. Oh, still working for old job on Saturdays to help her until she hires someone to replace me.
As soon as that all happened, the lady who secured me with the pharmaceutical company job died within 5 days from Covid because my roomate asked for a ride to Vanderbilt as she couldn’t drive, 43 years old. Then my roomate falsely accused me of allowing Jasper to sleep in her antique bed I sleep in. He can’t even get in it because of hip dysplasia. She said she heard things in my room that sounded like him jumping down. Its only a double, he wouldn’t fit even if I helped him get in and he wouldn’t stay put for. 10 minutes even if he did get in. She accused me then of lying and i elevated my voice and said i do not lie. And even when I do something wrong, I come and apologize for it. When I say I didn’t do something the 1st time, it should’ve been enough. She has no proof, just her accusation and I was asked to vacate the house. Over a false accusation. Then she admitted to me
that Jasper barks constantly while I am gone, not just once in a while. Not sure what to think or believe. And have no idea if I will have a place to live at this point. I think for tonight we are fine but I have to work in the morning at 2nd job. So, not sure if its safe to go or not.
I just do not understand, just when I begin to get ahead I get slam dunked again. And by this woman in biblestudy that I live with. I know its the devils handiwork but why isn’t God shielding me?
I need to get Jasper into a foster home asap. As much as it hurts to say it, I know you will find a good person for him who will love and care for his special needs. I will dig up all his records and xrays and such. My heart is breaking in a million pieces to do this but this is not a good way for Jasper to live anymore and I cannot make it on my own with him as unstable as things are right now. Cant even care for my own needs and pay my bills. I get 1st paycheck on 3rd but no$ until then to pay for storage rental of possessions, car insurance, food, and phone. So, Jasper deserves better and if I am pushed out of this house as it appears I will, I stand to loose my jobs and probably all I own.

I will fill out paperwork ASAP. Hopefully tomorrow. I have to be up by 530am for work in morning.

                Christina:

I hope Jackie is doing well. Please send her my best.

We rescued a Beagle mix last year in November. Ruth, our Beagle, is so sweet and we feel so lucky to have connected with her. I think we are happy being a one dog family.
I really wish you all the best in finding the perfect homes for Zeke and Zella.

Also, we had such a wonderful experience with your Airedale rescue group. Mary McEneaney, who did our home visit has become a wonderful friend of our family. In fact, we are getting together this weekend for a doggie playdate.

                All the best,

                Hi Sandra and Kevin
My name is Christina and I’m a volunteer with Airedale Rescue Group (ARG). I volunteer with Jackie, who you’ve worked with in the past for ARG. Jackie is taking a medical break from ARG. I wanted to reach out to you about your interest in an Airedale. Are you all still looking for a ‘dale? We have two ‘dales, Zeke and Zella, that were surrendered to us yesterday and they’re in the Charlotte area of NC. They are litter mates and they don’t get along with another dog in the house – then they gang up on the other dog. The surrendering owner hates to relinquish them but feels its the only option. ARG and the surrendering owner believes these ‘dales would be best in separate homes – often when litter mates are together, they’re so bonded to each other. We believe, as does the owner, they would thrive as individuals. There is a male and female, Zeke and Zella. They will be 5 in November. They have been very well cared for – we have spoken with their vet and they received glowing reviews for their care. The surrendering owner came to ARG because they want to find someone to love them (individually) as much as they do. Would you all be interested in either the male or female? Please let me know!

                  from Julie 7/29/2021:
Mary is a nice southern woman who had the best dog in the world, BEAR – Poodle and couldn’t possibly get another Poodle because it’s too sad. Southern women can be pushy. hahaha! She wants a puppy – she’s 66, hubs 69 because she wants to train it. She’s a retired Educator and likes consistency. But she also mentioned that her dogs were usually ‘outdoor’ dogs until the husband wanted an indoor dog. Who must not shed. Hence looking at Airedales.

I gave her the scary speech about dirt, water, barking, digging. but she insists it would be ok. Told her we rarely obtain puppies, especially now as it’s not really puppy season. She wants young because she must train it to be good with grand kids (4,8)

Believes in Heart worm meds. Bear had Heartworm injections and she thinks it may have contributed to his diagnosis of lymphona at 5 years old.

She struck me as a determined southern biddy who doesn’t like no as an answer. But I didn’t NOT like her. haha.

VET: Took great care of Bear, HW injections, seen yearly, applequel and ears checked often. We he was sick, they did bloodwork, US and next day euthanized. Receptionst said they are very nice people and then kindly said, are up in age.

We could do home visit but I wouldn’t put her 1st of the list bc of age (for a puppy), and lack of Airedale experience.

8/11/2021 After almost one year Kristin Dobes reached out via FB messenger:

Good evening. I’ve spoken with you before. It seemed to be going well and then he lashed out at my daughter tonight for no reason. If I signed over my rights right now, how soon can anyone get him out of the home?
I switched vets. Everything seemed to be going so much better. And tonight she simply reached down to get a piece of toilet paper and he bit her. So, if y’all don’t take in dogs like that, then I understand. But if it’s an option, then I’m reaching out to ask for help

I’m trying to get in touch with Jackie Cash now.

Kristin- This is Pat Hairston. Jackie is on medical leave and is not available at this time. Does your veterinary practice do boarding? If so, if you complete the release form and get get him into boarding tomorrow, we can handle him from there. It is easier for ARG is you communicate by email to info@airedalerescuegroup.com.
Please describe the bite. Was skin broken? Have you taken your daughter to the ER or a walk-in clinic.
We will have him evaluated by a behaviorist and then determine the best course of action from there.

She was surrendered by her owner due to cost. They were unemployed and could not keep her up including her grooming needs. They had her for 10 years and got her from a breeder in Texas. They described her as a couch potato, playful, house trained, crate trained, likes men and women. Lived with kids 10 years and up and other dogs. Does not like cats. Enjoys chew toys. Ate Blue Wilderness.

                        Hello,

I conducted an in person home visit at the residence of Karen Cornell on June 18, 2021 on behalf of American Fox Terrier Rescue, Inc.

I determined that Karen provided a safe, clean, and loving home for the senior Airedale that she had and had clearly done so for the senior dogs that she had lost due to old age or terminal illness. She is a retired nurse and is home almost continuously. She has a secure fence in her backyard.

I recommended that a rescued male wire fox terrier be permanently placed with her and we subsequently did so. Followup conversations I have had with Karen indicate that this placement has been exceptionally successful.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or require further information.

                              Hey Pat,
I called her about 2 weeks ago and finally got her today. She doesn’t want to adopt, but she is interested in fostering or transport.
Just adopted a wire fox terrier in June as a brother to Abbee her 13 yo ADT. She retired to SC from DE. Husband still has a home in DE, so he travels.

Has good fencing, VET references were good, on Bravetco and Heartguard. New vet in SC, old vet in DE and both were fine.

She mentioned she will be fostering and transport for WireFox Terrier too. She said she just did the home visit with WireFox Terrier so if we need that information she could probably get it for us.

So nothing too exciting since she’s not interested in adoption but maybe fostering.

                              Thanks
