Hello!
I hope you had a great Holiday season.
I have sad news concerning Martha. As I discussed with you in the email below in July she had tested and showed high protein levels in her Kidneys.
Additional conversations with my Vets Kevin Lowe, DVM, and Dr Carr at Flint River Animal Hospital led to 2 separate rounds of genetic testing with the Auburn University Veterinary Team.
It was determined that Martha had one bad gene (not 2) and this genetic issue led to a diagnosis of Protein Losing Nephropathy.
We used a variety of meds to treat Martha and while she did exhibit some symptoms such as lack of energy and decreased appetite she responded well to her meds.
There is no real cure for nephropathy in Dogs. The best we could hope for was to limit additional damage to her Kidneys and medigate the associated symptoms.
Martha was doing fine, however, in October the groomers reported that Martha did not want to stand and required assistance on the grooming stand. Additionally, I noticed her energy level drop off and our daily walks begin a steep drop in duration and distance.
The last 2 months saw additional issues present themselves such as sudden weight loss and loss of appetite. We changed her food to puppy food and changed her meds to allow her kidneys to process some protein and hopefully gain back some of the weight she had lost.
Martha fought a valiant fight but it became very apparent that she was losing the battle. She lost 15 lbs and all her muscle in the last few weeks. She was having issues using her doggie doors and her stamina was next to nothing. She had difficultly just dealing with normal day to day life.
Martha was an Airedale that in her prime would walk up to 2mi, loved to play with her toys, and alerted when anyone or thing was in close proximity to the house.
Doctor Lowe believes that the combination of nephropathy and her age 11yrs (DOB 7-11-10) were just too much for Martha.
After shedding many tears and in consultation with Doctor Lowe I made the difficult decision to humanely euthanasia her this past Tuesday 28 DEC 2021.
I want to thank ARG for giving me the opportunity to adopt Martha!
She was a total joy and loyal companion. I miss her terribly everyday!
I am making a contribution today to ARG in her memory. I will never forget her and expect to see her waiting for me in Heaven along with her ARG brother Henry and Samantha (her black Airedale sister) (I just hope I make the cut!).
Thank you Christina & ARG for all you do to bring these little angels into our lives!

Hello Alecia, George & Karen,
Tomorrow, Saturday Dec 4 is a big day for Tank! He will be going to his new family in Charleston SC! We’re so thrilled for Tank and thankful to all of you for helping him to get to his new family.
Safe Travels on Saturday. I will be available for any questions. Let me know when you’re safely back home! Pictures are welcome but safety first! (Christina 919-605-4563)Safety:
Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Tank when opening car doors, transferring him from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Unless necessary, remain in car with A/C until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured by hand on the leash; when allowing potty breaks – ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let him off leash at any time 😊
Do not feel the need to walk Tank outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car in the A/C will be fine for him. (IF you have a water bowl, please bring it so he can take a water sip between cars to keep him hydrated)..

Subject: Re: Tank adoption agreementHi Kelly, Christina, and Pat,
We want to thank you all so much for finding and facilitating Tank’s rehoming. Aaron and I were discussing what a well run and clearly caring organization you guys have. We are already in LOVE with Tank! He is just precious. Kind with kids, good with other dogs. Thus far, he seems like a sweet and fairly well adjusted guy with SOME training and boundaries already established. As you previously disclosed, leash training and jumping are going to be our biggest training issue to tackle and we’re working on it.
Thank you for the heads up, Christina, that he is VERY skinny. We are already transitioning him to a high calorie/high fat formula and will work with the vet to get his weight up. Thank you so much for covering the first vet visit! That’s wonderful. I am eager to get him checked out. We’ll do that this week.
I just paid his adoption fee through the website and will get the agreement in the mail today.
Thanks again all and we’ll keep you posted on Tank’s progress as he adjusts… but so far, he seems like a wonderful fit for our family!
Best,

Pulled down both Jennie and Tom at different times. Most recently, in 10.21, Took escaped (not sure if he got out of his collar or he pulled down Tom). Took went after a female dog and pulled TOm down to his knees and face planted him. They are interested in rehoming him. I’m going to ask if they’d be interested in trying medication with him to keep him.

Subject: Re: FW: ARG Application from Georgie JonesReport: I would recommend this family for an Airedale. Georgie has a house that is made for dogs. She has gates all around to keep dogs in the appropriate areas. Their den had a couch and chair with blankets on them presumably for the dogs. That is where they crate the dogs. Her granddaughter, who is a handful, was nonetheless respectful of the dogs space. The only interaction with the cocker spaniel that I witnessed was her slowly approaching the dog, patting her head and giving her a gentle hug. This was a very well behaved, calm 3 year old cocker spaniel. The dog was well groomed with a recent haircut. We discussed the vet we have in common and she uses the vet’s groomer for her grooming needs. I asked her what she thought of “Certifect” and she said she liked it. I may switch. There was no apparent problem with parasites. They have 1.5 acres in a minifarm subdivision that has no other homes built yet. Basically she lives on 150 acres. Her fence is a small dog yard. It is actually pig wire. Not aesthetically pleasing but she says no dog has ever escaped. Georgie worked for McCormick Humane Society and is currently fostering a basset hound mix. I had a student who volunteered there and she knew her well. I couldn’t remember the girl’s last name and she said, “King.” There were 3 bowl of clean water on the premises.
I am a landlord and make home visits to my prospective tenants. I’m not sure I would rent to these people as the yard and the house were messy, however, there was nothing unsafe or overtly unsanitary about the house. Someone smokes in the house, it smelled of cigarettes, but not like you would choke from it. I did not meet the husband. She said he walks the dogs on the gravel road with a leash. No fear they would be hit as NOONE is out there! I thought I lived in the middle of nowhere!
Interesting side note: She grew up in the same area of New York I did. I was in Rockland County and she was next door in Orange County. Small world! This was fun!

Hi Nancy! so great you are near the Jones family.Below is their application w/ contact information.
I spoke to Georgie on 9/5. Clearly a dog lover. Their most recent airedale died just a few weeks ago. She now has a cocker spaniel who she describes as quiet and sweet. I wonder what that is like 🙂
Their 2 yr old granddaughter lives with them. I could could clearly hear the child in the background the entire time of the call. The shrieking didn’t seem to faze Georgie. She has lived with them since March and they are applying for permanent custody as “her mother does not have her act together.” Their daughters are 3 hours away, sounds like they do visit, not sure how often. All in all, a very caring nice person with a big heart. I look forward to hearing your impressions.

Jasper was wonderful. A really sweet, sweet gentle dog! If I didn’t already have two Airedales, I would have had trouble giving him to the next stop. He was truly delightful.Sorry for the delay: There was an accident on I24, that had us stopped or going 5mph for about 4.5 miles. Then the expected slow up around Moccasin Bend which didn’t cost too much time.
Jasper has more toys and paraphernalia than a 3 year old person by far. It filled up my trunk and then some. He has truly been well loved and his personality shows it.
Jasper has a little problem getting into a vehicle with high seats. You will have to boost him up. I had to and I have a sedan, so SUV’s will surely require a boost.
He was given water and a pee break at both ends of my leg.
Best of luck to you Jasper!

Please let me know if you receive this and if there are any corrections to phone numbers!Thank you for helping to transport Jasper tomorrow from Smyrna to Highlands! Jasper comes from a very loving home, and we know he will do well in his new family. Jasper is a good car rider and of course, the regular safety rules apply (below) but one thing that is important for Jasper – he can not have any treats/food besides the one that his owner sends with him because he has allergies and on a limited ingredient diet.

Heather said its been at least 3 years since she has seen Jasper.
she worked a lot with him when he was a puppy
She did private; She did some day training
Owner could not keep up with exercise for Airedale Terrier
– Trainer taught him to walk on a treadmill
Trainer said that owner does not understand dog behavior at all
she had the wackiest reasons of why she does things
Trainer said when she was with him – nice dog, energetic, required exercise, good with dogs, hyper
Michelle bought him as a puppy. (trainer does not know breeder but recommended that we ask)
Trainer thinks in a d ifferent situation, he will be fine.
Used to walk well on a leash, walked on a tread mill, listened to commands
Went to a day care so she thinks get gets along with other dogs
Separation anxiety – she did not think the S.A. was like the dogs was hurting himself but he needs consistency, exerciseHeather has been listening to the same stories that you have for months and months. She said there are some crazy stories. Heather kept telling her to surrender.
