I spoke to Lee and Michelle on 2/2/22. The conversation was them together. They have two daughters, Isabella age 10 and their daughter Alissa who is 20 and she lives with Michele’s mother who lives up the road from them. At one point, as a family they had 3 dogs – border collie, beagle and Airedale. Isabella grew up with those 3 dogs and she is used to being around dogs. I did mention that we don’t know if Raphael had been around children.

They have a wooden fence. Their border collie only goes outside if they go with her -even in the rain. They have lots of parks nearby for walking – on leash. Plus dog parks – 4 minutes away. They routinely scoop up the feces in the yard. Lee said how he recognized blood in the feces for a border collie who had colon cancer when picking up feces from yard. They frequently are rubbing their dogs down and notice new lumps and bumps.
They do have an inground Pool which has Motion detector cameras and an alarm in the pool. Plus pups are not allowed out w/o them being there. If there is motion created in the water, beyond wind, sirens go off. Recently a squirrel fell into the pool, they saved her and nursed her back to health. Plus pups are not allowed out w/o them being there

Their Airedale was a male, named Casey who lived to about 12. One month before, he had gone in for a Senior Exam and blood work and no issues. Then, he suddenly had the spleen rupture/cancer.

Michele works at home and Lee works 10 minutes from home. He comes home for lunch to play with the dogs. If Michele had to travel for work, he could work at home. Their beagle was diabetic and they accommodated their schedules so the beagle was never alone.

Other pets – we don’t know how Raphael is with other pets do not expect issues. I explained that Raphael will have neuter surgery on Friday and to keep him quiet and let him get used to them. They plan to keep the border away from him while Raphael is recovering.

I checked on what type of flea tick, heartworm used and they use heartguard and bravecot.

In the past, they have used various Grooming – mobile groomer, used petsmart and their own. Casey had arthritis, he could not go to petsmart any longer so Michele also learned to groom.

          Good afternoon Christina,

Thank you for emailing us! While we would love to take both of them, Daniel and I think three dogs would be a little too much for us at the present. I hope they find a loving and good home soon though!

We are eagerly standing by when you have a single Airedale who needs a home.

          Best,

          Sabrina & Daniel

Hi Pam – I wanted to check in with you about the home visit. Mary really enjoyed talking with you in December and of course, with holidays and hectic times – seems like everyone has been hit with COVID, I just wanted to check in with you. Lauren can come and meet you for the home visit. It won’t be a traditional home visit where we meet in your house but it is a chance for you to meet an ARG adopter, ask questions about ARG and their experience. Let me know if you’re still interested – we hope so!

I wanted to let you know that I talked to suzanne and David and they enjoyed meeting you all. They think you’d be a great home for an airedale. You are approved! Next step is finding a match for you all. We do not have any airedales right now however that could quickly change. Please let me know if you have any questions. Christina

Hey Christina we just left their home they are a beautiful young couple with an adorable dog he weighs about 40 pounds so he’s a perfect size to play with an Airedale. Our two Airedale loved him and he loved them once they got to know each other. they have a nice fenced in yard and they are truly dog people. Sabrina grew up with an Airedale so she’s very familiar with Airedale traits. Her concerns were she did not want to get an aggressive dog because of Duffy. I assured her ARG is very good at matching up dogs to families. They assured me if it didn’t work out for any reason they would return the dog to ARG. I highly recommend them for a dog. They quickly took to Cooper and Riley. They were able to see a calm Airedale (Riley) and our wild baby Cooper. They loved both of them. We discussed dogs having baggage that they sometimes bring with them but with a lot of love they usually come around. David and I both highly recommend this young couple a future family for a dog. I told them someone from ARG would be in touch. We hope to get the Luthersville visit in the beginning of the week we had plans for this afternoon and evening and all day tomorrow so we were not able to get them in this weekend.
Let us know if there is anything further we can do. Have a great weekend!

                          Hi Suzanne and Sabrina
happy Saturday and I am excited to introduce you two for the next step in the airedale adoption process. suzanne and her husband have adopted Airedales from ARG over the years. Sabrina, we are happy you’re interested in adopting an airedale.

Suzanne will be visiting you and meeting you for the home visit, due to COVID, you all should meet outside, talk about airedales and any questions you have and show suzanne your yard. It would be great if Daniel could be home at the time of the home visit so Suzanne can meet both of you.

Please arrange a time that is good for both of you. Let me know if you have questions! Christina

                            Hi David and Suzanne
We have someone who lives in Fayetteville GA who has been interviewed by our applicant volunteer and is ready for a home visit. I wondered if you would like to/be able to home visit this applicant.
Due to COVID, we don’t need you to go into the home. It’s fine to meet outside, talk to the applicant, see her interaction with dogs, check out her fence and area the dog would be. If you all are willing, I will send an intro to mail to set these expectations

I know the weather is cold and snowy and potentially more this weekend so there is flexibility on when it could be done!
                            Thanks, Christina

                              Good Morning Ladies,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I send you this email. Yesterday morning, we found our dear, sweet, precious Allie dead in her crate. I am trembling as I type, as I still cannot believe or understand why she is gone. I just looked down at my feet thinking she would be there as she always was. On Monday evening, she threw up about 3-4 small piles of bile. Nothing was in them, and she and all of our dogs through the years have had a little tummy ache now and then, so we really didn’t think anything of it. She did drink more than usual after, but we again thought that seemed normal since she had just thrown up. She did not act or seem abnormal at all! We all went up to bed like normal around 11:00, and she went into her crate. No abnormal sounds, groans, nothing. I cannot begin to tell you the sadness and disbelief we are experiencing. We are devastated, and quite honestly, numb.

We know that these signs lead to the thought that she ingested some kind of poison. We have absolutely nothing at the disposal of our dogs. Nothing! As a matter of fact, when we purchased this house over two years ago, Rick also made sure to check all the plants in the backyard before bringing at that time, Reggie our lab, and Jack, our other Airedale, into the yard. Reggie and Jack are fine, and she has been romping in the yard with her two buddies for close to two years now.

Having been dog lovers and owners our entire lives, we are obviously no strangers to losing our dogs, but this is just not right. She was only 3 years old. We simply have no idea what happened, and are in a state of shock. I did not go to work yesterday, and wonder how I will be able to go in today, but I do understand that I must go on. Rick did finally go to work for a few hours yesterday, but said he accomplished nothing.

We miss her desperately, and I can honestly say that I have never had a dog with such a sweet disposition.

I chose not to post her loss on Facebook, and am unsure if I ever will. I know I have to accept that she is gone, but for now, I simply need to grieve. I cannot believe that I still have tears streaming down my face, as I didn’t think I had any more tears to shed after the past 27 hours.

We love you Allie, and will never forget you, sweetie.

                              Kind Regards,

                              Veronique Akers
