Hi Whitely, Thanks for meeting last week about your interest in adopting an Airedale and thanks for your documentation from the apartment facility where you live. The apartment is approving a service animal to live at your residence (MAA documentation).

ARG does not place dogs into homes where the dog is intended to serve as a service dog or emotional support animal. Because the documentation provided indicates approval for a service dog accommodation, your application falls outside of our placement guidelines. Many of the dogs that come into rescue have unknown or incomplete backgrounds, and we cannot responsibly predict whether they would be suitable for specialized working or support roles.

Our ARG ‘dales would not be a candidate to be a service animal. I’m sorry that I don’t have recommendation for any service dog organizations.

Subject: Airedale Rescue Group – available Airedales in SC

            hi Madison and Joseph
My name is Christina and I am a volunteer with AIredale Rescue Group. Are you all still interested to add a needy ‘dale to your family? We have a few Airedales that came into our care recently and they are located in SC. Let me know if you’re still interested and we will try to find a match for your family – including Luke! Have there been any changes in your household since we last connected with you?

            Available
            Female – age 2
            Female – estimated age 3-4
            Male – age 2
            Female age 7

I spoke on phone with Whitley and explained that we would need to check with the landlord for approval for dog. She said that she needed to get a legal letter from her lawyer and medical team which she provided on May 8. Her doctor needs to send some emotional support paperwork.
Current apartment has a dog park at apartment. 4 feet fence at dog park. Apartments are very strict on dogs for leashing and picking up poop. Apartment is on 3rd floor.
Whitley, her boyfriend and roommate are waiting for the current lease to be over. And will probably move to Harrisburg. NC
Airedale must get along with other dogs as her family is close and they watch each other dogs when one goes away. Sister has a rottweiler; cousin has a pyr mix with a labdoodle. She has never owned a female dog but is open to owning a female ‘dale. She is open to all ages of ‘dales.
Whitley had initially questioned if it was required to spay/neuter and she was initially against it but understands now that all dogs from ARG are spayed or neutered

What are Whitely’s ideas for the rescued ‘dale to detect diabetes – training? Expectations, Does not absolutely need the training but would like to have additional training in on a puppy b/c sometimes does not wake up when she hears her alarm. Would have to check the temperament and if the dogs does that type of work.
Application mentions” To train/use as an assistance dog for the disabled”- need more details as Airedales typically are not able to be trained for this; who is she intending to use this dog for – herself? Whitely has Lupus and Type 1 diabetes. She is looking for emotional support. Being there emotionally. She gets a little upset about her health, always hearing bad news, likes to stay active. Therapist said even if it is through rescue will better her moods and get her going even more. Wants to go back to being adventurous

OB is a 7-year-old male Airedale Terrier, born in May 2019, weighing approximately 56 pounds. His family has had him since he was a puppy and describes him as a loving, friendly dog who thrives on affection and companionship. Due to their busy family schedule with teenage twins involved in many activities, they feel they can no longer give OB the time and attention he deserves.

OB has been around children of all ages and currently lives peacefully with another dog, a Schnauzer. He is social, easygoing, and has shown no signs of aggression. He does well with both male and female dogs and would likely enjoy having a canine companion in his new home.

He is fully housebroken, walks nicely on leash, enjoys walks, runs, hikes, and loves riding in the car. OB is crate trained and happily sleeps in his crate at night. He is also comfortable being left alone for up to eight hours during the day. He uses a dog door to access a fenced yard and is not an escape artist.

OB is healthy, with current vet records and monthly heartworm prevention. He has no known allergies or injury history. He is a good eater and tolerates grooming well. His one noted challenge is a fear of bad weather and storms, which can make him anxious.

Per ‘finder’ of Roxy” Roxy is a cool girl and she wishes she could stay but she has a 2 dog limit (although her landlord, and personal friend knows this is a rescue). Roxy is rough with the resident and little and old chorkie. Owner knows this is just due to Roxy being a puppy. She very cuddly and will let you pick her up, cut her nails, bathe her but she does not want other dogs to bother her when she has a toy, bone or food. She loves to play and is very food motivated. She is a barker and does a lot of groaning for pleasure. The chorkie is age 12 and 6 lbs and she also has a woofadoodle who is more Irish Wolfhound, he is over 100 lbs and young at 1 years old. Roxy and the wolfadoodle play a lot. She would do better with older kids as she does knock down her 6 year old out of excitement but she loves kids. Cats – she’s curious about the strays in the neighborhood.

Roxy was on a community page and they clearly wanted to dump her and did not know what they were getting into. Finder saved her from this.

She is crate trained and loves the crate although she just wants to be around people and will lay right up against you at night. She does very well on a leash and loves walks and cars. She gets way too excited about treats and will jump but does know how to sit. She loves chewing on toys and is a bit mischievous getting into things but – she is a puppy.

Therse are special dogs and finder has only been around one on a military base. Whoever get her will get a sweet girl.

Per finder – her groaning is about the cutest thing.

She is ok with humans being around her with food but when the wolfadoodle goes new her, she growls.

Hi Christina, just met width Regan. She has a cute little house and a giant yard! Her yard is fenced all the way around looks to be 5 feet tall. And I really enjoyed meeting Stetson – he reminded me so much of Rocco!

We talked a lot, and I shared my experience with introducing a new Airedale. She said Stetson has had lots of experience with other dogs and he’s super friendly. We talked about leashes, dog food, vets, grooming, kennels, her work schedule, etc..

Let me know what other information you need otherwise I think she’s good to go!

                            Thank you for the opportunity!
