Next Step: Home VisitDale and Kim are experienced Airedalers. They currently have a 10 YO spayed female, Ginger, a rescue through a non-Airedale group. They had two previous Airedales, one passed at 2YO, the result of a blood disorder and after a year of chemo; the other, Winston, was euthanized last summer at 14-1/2 due to spleen cancer.
Per Crosswinds vet, Ginger is kept up to date on vaccines and with HW/Flea/Tick meds. (Heartguard, Nexgard)
The family has a large fully fenced yard. When they first moved in a few years ago, they installed an e-fence (which they no longer generally use) until their physical fence was installed. They only use the e-fence these days when a new dog arrives to train him/her in case a door is left open. Once the dog learns not to leave the yard, they remove the e-collar. They’ve never had a dog run away, or hit by a car. The dog will be chipped, if not already.
They do have a pool but their dogs are not allowed out there unsupervised. They also actively teach their dogs to swim. Kim gets up very early in the a.m. and will walk the dog(s) for miles (weather permitting). Dale will walk with them on the weekends.
Dale works 2-3 days from home; his wife is in and out as she manages four different cancer research offices. Their next door neighbor is their dog walker/care taker – she will actually take the dog with her to her store. The dogs have free rein of the house once Dale and Kim know they can be left on their own. They will likely bring in a trainer. They have crate trained and use the crate until comfortable leaving the dog free. They have a friend with Great Danes who has a trainer she loves so will likely go with that person.
When I asked how much they expected to spend on care annually, he noted likely thousands between grooming every 5-6 weeks, food, vet, etc. They both make excellent money so that is not a problem. Ginger currently eats a special salmon based meal they special order.
I asked Dale for a personal reference and he gave me their neighbor, who raved about them as parents. Brogan confirmed the dog(s) get lots of exercise. They let her know whatever health issues are going on and “love them as much as I’d hope any dog owner to ever love and they exceed my expectations.” She says they are the best parents.
They agree to pay an adoption fee and agree that if the dog does not work out, they will return it to ARG.
Because they have their senior ‘dale, Ginger, and their son has a dog as well, they require a dog that gets along with others. They would like a ‘chill’ dog but also one they can take on their longer walks. They would like a dog on the younger side, who can also help keep Ginger young.

Congratulations on your foster-adoption of Benji!
We are very happy he is landing in an experienced Airedale home for him to blossom into the best Airedale he can be.
Attached please find the foster to adoption agreement. His veterinary records are attached. No adoption fee is due during the foster period. Benji is considered a foster so that ARG can ensure he is neutered in a timely manner and microchipped. ARG prefers his microchip be registered to us and then we will transfer it to you upon his adoption.
Payment for his veterinary care can be arranged by having the Veterinary office contact me directly at 910-200-5890 or you can pay the bill and provide a copy to us for reimbursement.
Thank you for opening your heart and home to Benji!
Please let us know when you settle on a new name for him.
Hope all continues to go well.

Most Grateful,

Hello ARG Volunteers – Please let me know if you receive this and if there are any corrections to phone numbers!Thank you for helping to transport Benji on Saturday Dec 3 from Candor, NC to Hendersonville, TN! We appreciate you so much for helping us!
Safe Travels and I will be available for any questions. Let me know when you’re safely back home! Pictures are welcome but safety first!
Safety:
Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Benji when opening car doors, transferring him from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Unless necessary, remain in car until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured by hand on the leash; when allowing potty breaks – ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let him off leash at any time. Double leash is recommended – taking it off when Benji is safely in the next car.
Do not feel the need to walk Benji outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car will be fine for him. (If you have a water bowl, please bring it so he can take a water sip between cars to keep him hydrated).
PLEASE USE YOUR CHILD LOCKS so that Benji cannot accidentally open a window or door! (It has happened!)
