Hi Christina – we would be happy to help! Please feel free to make the connection with us and the family and we will set something up with them. Rory and Grace will be excited to learn another Airedale might be moving into the area. 🙂

hi Melissa and Jeramiah, ARG needs help with a home visit in Raleigh NC. The applicant lives in the same zip code as you all! 27617. THe applicant is interviewed, references check – we just need a physical meeting/home visit. Would you be willing to do this for ARG. Ideally on weekend when everyone in the family can be present.

Let me know, if you can, I’ll send an intro note to all of you.

Subject: Re: Some questions re Pearl

                hi Michael
First, here are her vet records. This is not the most current which has her spay and microchip info. I’ll get that to you on Monday as I need to call the Signal Mountain vet for the finalized record. She was spayed and had microchip in mid Feb when she was boarding at the facility.

Some details from her foster Mom Marci
                Pearl

                DOB: 10-29-2017; weight 50 lbs.

Food – Science Diet – sending food with her for transition, 1.5 C, 2X day

Medication: will send her heart guard, nex gard, trazodone ( she came with this and Marci never used it) and microchip information.
Last HW pill given on March 2.

No other meds given; never gave any urinary incontincne meds. She never had urinary incontience at Marci’s home. Marci thinks Pearl may have spent a lot of time in a crate in her former home and she may have peed as soon as she got out of crate bc she had been in crate for long time. Marci never saw any issues.

Pearl has not tried to get out of our backyard. We are always out there with her and she loves to run around and chase a tennis ball. Marci was working with her to catch a frisbee and she is good at this!

She only poops when loose in the backyard and not on a walk (even a very long walk) but we are managing that. She does ok on a leash – she can pull very hard, but she can also walk nicely. She is a little skittish- I don’t think she has been exposed to very much (school buses, lawn blowers, brick mailboxes, etc) – poor girl. When she pulls, it is more to follow a smell than she pulls at other passing dogs. She does not have a strong prey drive- no problems with squirrels running by. She also does not bark a lot.

Sometimes she is sweet and calm – right now she is just laying in the kitchen with me 😊(Max is upstairs), but other times she is a crazy lady and she can get very excited and she will wrap her arms around me and get very mouthy. I tell her no and push her down, but then it is a game and she jumps back up and continues. She is not aggressive, but she is persistent

Pearl has gone to doggie day care and played well with a labradoodle.

She gets into trouble when left alone. She does well in her crate and loves bully sticks and kongs or hollow marrow bones with frozen peanut butter. (Notes from original owner indicate she is a chewer but got better with age). Marci put Pearl in crate when she left house. Occasionaly if she knew she was tired, she would leave her unattended, resting on couch if she would leave. “She tends to get into most trouble when she was not at home, uncrated”. I would say – crate when you are not home!

Marci wonder if one of the reasons Max (resident ‘dale, Senrior) did not get along with her is because he felt so poorly. He is usually a very agreeable man.

Marci: I will be thinking a lot about Pearl. Please tell her new family that I am happy to talk, text (Marci)!

Subject: Pearl Transport on Sunday 3/26/23

hi Marci, Jack, Alison, Robin & Don, Jeannette & Michael,
Thank you for helping to transport Pearl on Sunday March 26 from Charlotte, NC to Powder Springs, GA!!!! Let me know that you received this note and are ‘good’ with the details. (THANK YOU!!!)
Safe Travels and I will be available for any questions.(919-605-4563) Let me know when you’re safely back home! Pictures are welcome but safety first!

                  Safety:

Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Pearl when opening car doors, transferring her from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Unless necessary, remain in car until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured by hand on the leash; when allowing potty breaks – ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let her off leash at any time. Double Leashing is preferred if you have a slip lead to bring along for your leg of the trip.
Do not feel the need to walk Pearl outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car will be fine for her. (If you have a water bowl, please bring it so she can take a water sip between cars to keep him hydrated).

PLEASE USE YOUR CHILD LOCKS so that Pearl cannot accidentally open a window or door! (It has happened!)

Subject: Airedale Rescue Group – approval from home visit

                      Hello Justin and Beth
Marci has enthusiastically endorsed your family as qualified to adopt an Airedale. She enjoyed meeting all of you on the weekend. You are an approved adopter!

I understand you’re traveling in April. When would you be ready to adopt a ‘dale, when the right one came along.
                      .
Congratulations and I hope we can match you with an Airedale very soon!

atovskys, we think that Pearl might work for them. Pearl gets along well with people. We think she would get along fine with the Platovskys and their children. She can catch a frisbee and loves to chase a tennis ball and I think the boys would have fun playing with her. She does jump and can be a little rough which might be an issue, especially for their younger son. She also is not completely house trained and can be destructive if she is bored and alone.

For Pearl to work for them, she would have to get along with George, their dog. If she does get along with him, then they might play and keep Pearl sufficiently active so that she is not as much of a challenge when she is in the house. Pearl would need training before either of the boys could walk her on a leash. She will need a lot of training before she can be safely left alone in the house.

The Platovskys would be a great family for an Airedale. Pearl may be a little challenging to place. The Platovskys have a trip scheduled in April and would not be ready to adopt until late April.

Danielle Corbitt surrendering 5 year old, 100 lb puppy like Blue. We (Jackie) interviewed Danielle and her husband in 2019, they were HV’d by Marion & Sally Dixon and approved but they ended up buying Blue from a breeder in Kentucky. They also own a female ‘dale, 4 y/o. Her husband passed away unexpectly in November from unknown hereditary liver/adrenal shut down disease. She has MS and difficulty walking and with Blue being 100 lbs, its too much for her. For instance if he goes outside and decides to be stubborn and not come inside, she has a difficult time with her walker, getting down the steps to tell him to come in.

She said he is a great dog, the class clown. He is 100 lbs and not over weight. Blue is their third Airedale in 30 years. Blue has been exposed to 2 cats in his lifetime. When he came home to them, they had a 35 lb Maine Coon cat and Blue learned about cats from him. He was older and died and her husband got another Maine Coon kitten, who Blue did fine with and played with – cat hides, Blue walks by and she would swat him and then he’d get excited to see her but never harmed her. Danielle rehomed the Maine Coon as well – she said cats were her husbands thing.

She said Blue has a strong personality when he sees other big dogs, especially triggered by German Shepherd Dogs as he was attacked by a neighbor GSD as a puppy. She said he has always remembered that type of dog. Does fine with females. Is easily talked down when simulated but he needs a leader to tell him. She said he needs a home where he can burn off energy

Danielle is going to FL on APril 1 and Blue and his sis ‘dale are going to boarding. She’d like to have him placed before then.

PS She said she noticed someone in WS area commented on him and she would be willing to meet her. I looked it up and I said no, that person is not approved and you don’t want to go there – Donna Gardner! She also reached out to Charlotte Airedale Club and he told her to go through ARG.

Danielle lost her husband and she is disabled so she is surrendering Blue Boy who was a dog purchased in Kentucky.
