THANK YOU for helping on Saturday 3/27/2025 to get Katharina to her foster/training. As always, thanks for your patience as we worked out drivers, meeting locations, times, etc. You all make this happen. Saturdays are busy and your weekend, ARG is so thankful that you spend a few hours to help Airedales get to their new homes. Please review the phone numbers for your connecting drivers – if you’re running behind, just text/call and I can adjust this timeline as necessary.

This is a bittersweet day for Katharina and Erin. We are thinking of you Erin as you help Katharina to her new family!

Safety: Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Katharina when opening car doors, transferring her from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Unless necessary, remain in car until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured by hand on the leash; when allowing potty breaks – ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let her off leash at any time. Double Leashing is preferred if you have a slip lead to bring along for your leg of the trip.

Do not feel the need to walk Katharina outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car will be fine for her. (If you have a water bowl, please bring it so she can take a water sip between cars to keep her hydrated).

PLEASE USE YOUR CHILD LOCKS so that Katharina cannot accidentally open a window or door! (It has happened! Airedales are very smart!)
Katharina will travel with a few days supply of food; her leash and collar; favorite bone & toy and medical records (we have electronic too)

I am an ARG Volunteer with Mary and I help coordinate the home visit for Airedale Rescue Group. Tracy and Patrick and Eric & Lisa live relatively close to each other in Cary. needs more structure and boundaries for a young dog.
She has exercised some bad habits and will need a “reset” .
She may ultimately be fine with other dogs but would need to be with someone that understands the need for management and structure in the home.
would probably benefit from some training to address impulse control
Some basic obedience that has progressed to working on duration is always a good thing . But this dog could use some behavioral training and owners need to learn how to manage triggers in the home . First issue was the owner had to hold the dog back because she would bolt to and or out the door. This restraint creates a very frustrated and intense mind set . Layer that with a small dog doing an excited “death scream” and you have the formula for disaster.
This is a shame because they seemed to have been very happy with Poppy .
Really hope the other family you mentioned will want her . But they may need a little coaching to assure Poppy does not get in trouble again .

OMG – we have all fallen head over heels for this sweet girl. She is SO stinkin’ cute. Daisy (formerly Gabby) is settling in very well. She is playful and smart and seems to be enjoying the hustle and bustle of our family. Her bark is ferocious when she hears the door but she quickly turns into a wriggling happy to see you fluff ball no matter if you were gone 3 minutes or 3 hours. Both our Charlies were seniors (7+) & Charlie the 1st was so sick when they came to us – so it has been a long while since we have had a young spunky ADT who likes to play with toys and we are delighted with her zoomies and tuck butt runs!! She is great on her leash and not reactive to neighbor dogs. We are slowly changing her food over to our preferred brand & she has not suffered any ill effects. We just love her!

Thank you for sending her medical records – she did come with the Advantage and per notes had been treated for March – next dose due April 12. I am taking her to our vet on Friday to get her established as a patient, get their 2 cents on the heartworm/spaying situation & to get her microchipped (no indication that she has been prior but will obviously scan first). I will let you know what they say.

hi VC – I wanted to update you about Poppy. She attacked her Airedale sibling (previously had attacked her Wire Fox Terrier sister) and she had to be moved to a foster home immediately. She is doing fine in that home but her foster dad is not able to keep her much longer due to juggling her with his own Airedale while his wife is out of town. I tried to get a foster home in NC but it did not work out. We need to place Poppy immediately this week and it is not in her best interest to be in a kennel. Thank you for your offer to do that for her. Therefore I need to say that due to timing, Poppy is not going to work out for you and Jan.

However, we received a new Airedale who will be available for adoption and it is not as rushed of a timeline. Here are his details – Archie. Would you all be interested in Archie. You have first rights of refusal. He will be neutered.
