            Hi Christina,

The groomers are going to call me to let me know how much it will cost for a basic wash and ‘dale cut. I really would not mind paying for it [as I did for Jazmin’s spading]. but my funds are REALLY TIGHT right now and I’m having to scrounge up funds to have Flora groomed–and she REALLY needs it, as well.

Obviously that response takes care of any chances of me being Beo’s mom–and I WOULD if I COULD. Obviously, we HAVE bonded. However, I would be quite concerned with him being in a home with any small children, much less big kids [remember, one of the reasons Cindy released him was because of his jumping on friends of her 12 y.o.]. He is ALL 90# Airedale muscle. His paws are almost as large as my hand-span. He would NOT attack a child, or another dog, but he wants to PLAY with ANYONE and he’s very quick to let you know that. I had him on a pincher yesterday for a short walk when we passed by a house where the owner was throwing a ball to her little terrier in the front yard. Beo had a fit and was NOT responding to the pincher [yes, I DO know how to use it without hurting the dog]. I knew he just wanted to PLAY, but it’s hard to convince the onlooker about that. ALSO, he needs to be able to RUN, CATCH, RETRIEVE, etc. on a daily basis. I’m not sure taking him to work, unless it was a LONG walk] would be good for him [although, he would LOVE to be with his owner as much as possible]. With a child, they might feel the need to crate him in the house. I personally do NOT like that idea, especially when the owner is home but concerned about behavior with young children.

I probably OVER-RESPONDED to you question, but Beo needs some intense behvior modification. He’s a GREAT dog with some very BAD HABITS, but NOT IRREVERSIBLE [did I spell that correctly???]!

            E- at you later.

I sent a note on 8/24 to see if they still wanted a HV.

And C got a nice thoughtful response:

              Christina,

You totally did not drop the ball. We were contacted by someone shortly after you and I spoke and we had to reschedule a visit and we have not yet done that. We are currently in planning mode and are wrestling with the breed choice that would be best for us. My experience with Irish terriers has me, more than Ann , leaning hard toward an Airedale. The most important thing we are wanting is a dog that will be a good fit for Grace who wants a gentle love muffin. Ann, who has spent most of her life with Lab’s has that temperament in mind; a dog that seeks out attention (in a good way!) and wants to be rubbed, scratched and loved on. My ol’ Irish boy was no love muffin and sought affection out on his terms most of the time but man was he always thinking and curious and loyal and vocal…like Airedales. If there is an Airedale out there who could fit that bill….

Let me talk to Ann and see if she would like to do a visit so we can be on the list should such a dog come ya’lls way.

Thank you for getting back in touch and after countless hours looking at your website and facebook pages, thank you for all you do to find homes for the beautiful animals.

Greg & Ann, I am really sorry that I have dropped the ball on re-contacting you about adopting an Airedale. I think that the last time that we talked it was June and I needed to proceed with the home visit arrangements. Well, I forgot, and missed out on making the arrangements. Are you all still looking for an Airedale? If so, I have a great lady who would be able to come over for a Home Visit – she lives 7 minutes away! Thanks and I am sorry for the very long delay.

                    Hi Christina,

Thanks for giving us a status update! I am sorry that Elly Mae isn’t available, but I do understand completely about wanting a family with other dogs. We are definitely a one dog family so I wouldn’t want a dog who is used to doggy siblings to be sad and lonely!!

Let me speak with my family about Kaycee and I will be back in touch. Thanks for your help in all this!

                        Christina,

We were shocked after the first few days to realize that she is neither house, leash or crate trained. Her obedience is limited (she’s a jumper, very aggressive with most other dogs and nips when she plays). We are all bumped, bruised and lots of skinned limbs from being drug down the stairs outside our house or at the park. No broken bones yet! We are all working on this now. She was so close to bringing down a deer that we were all afraid the leash would snap. ๐Ÿ™‚ we are currently identifying a trainer to come to the house. In the

meantime, Steve is working with her all throughout the day.

Also our vet scanned her and also noted no microchip. We will get that done this weekend.

Now, the upside – We are all in love with the Tilly Monster! She is recognizing the name “Tilly” which she didn’t seem to at first. Loves to play, loves to be loved, runs around the house (one of her rewards for outside potty) like a quarter horse with her favorite toys and can’t let a single person go by without showing how much she LOVES people. She is so good with my girls and all the kids in the neighborhood. She loves the school bus stop because all the kids fawn over her and call her by name.

I have to admit, years ago after I had lost my beloved border collie, Whitley, I thought I’d never love a dog like that again. I would still have dogs, but not one like that. Tilly has proved me wrong. I pull out her pictures like she’s a new baby. She has issues (don’t we all), but part may be that she’s been in so many homes over the past few months. She’s home now. I told the kids that this is it for her. If someone turns up allergic, we’ll get shots. If she destroys something, we’ll train her not to do that in the future and will replace it. She is family now. Untrained, sloppy, lovey family! We are blessed.

Thank you for bringing her to our lives!

                        Kind regards,

                        Lara

His weight is 59 lbs. I had enough money to do everything except buy heart worm preventative, but that clinic doesn’t sell it, anyway.

Really great home visit. Their yard is secure. 5 ft fences. Locked gates. I asked if they had yard maintenance that could open gates – no workers in yard. Very large fence area – 2+ acres. Pool is separate fenced. Pool does not have any steps and their current dogs do not swim in it – probably because the dog cannot get in and out of pool they thought. The dogs do swim off their boat when they go to the beach.

House is perfect for a dog. There is a mud room when you enter from the garage and they have a crate that was used for Rudy until about three years ago. Raised feeders in the kitchen. They have a house at the beach and they said it is similar set up.

They visited a Poodle Rescue last weekend and were waiting to hear a health assessment on a labradoodle that they met. I told them that they were approved. BL to let them know and she may also ask them about Kaycee.

Yes- the check got here in just a few days, so I bought another bottle of Chlorhexidine Shampoo, which will go to his new home with him. I just had that thought about the heart worm preventative… I don’t know that answer to that, but I will find out this evening when I pick him up. I am going to TRY to get an E collar for him to wear, to keep him from chewing on his back- he is so itchy that he has practically pulled out more hair by trying to chew on the itchy spots! I bought some NUStock ointment to put on it, which is what I used before to help heal the skin issues and grow his hair back, but it has sulpher in it, so I was afraid to put it on before his surgery. I am really hoping they will include a heart worm treatment sample with the check, as after all for this, I am not sure if I will have enough to buy a heart worm pill right away. (It was $12 for the shampoo, $13 for the Nustock, $15 for Frontline and $88 for everything he is getting done at the clinic today, so that pretty much took all of the money that you sent for him) – thank you, so much! I feel so much better knowing that he is getting what he needs!

I just called them to ask- they do NOT provide the heart worm preventative, but will give me a paper to show the vet or pet pharmacy as proof – so I will need the money for that, unless you will have a home right away who will be able to get that for him. She went back to check and said that he is in surgery right now, and the test is still running (the timer has not gone off yet) but it looks like it will be negative. (Hurray! What a relief! So by the end of the day, he will have been neutered, heart worm negative, micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccines, and his nails clipped (They were getting a bit dangerous! lol!), as well as having his Frontline administered tomorrow, which will be 30 days from his last treatment. Is there anything that I have missed? Whoever adopts him will need to make sure they know of a feed supply store where they can get his Diamond Brand Chicken and Rice dog food (Here it is about $23.50 for a 40 lb bag, which will last him about a month) I have tried other foods, but I have not been successful in finding anything else that he will eat and that does not aggravate his allergies or give him diarrhea. (Believe me- you do NOT want to be the one to have to deal with this dog when he has diarrhea! NOT a pretty sight! lol) My daughter put her bully basset on that food, so when I am puppy sitting, they can eat the same thing, so I will be digging into her supply next week when Yogi’s supply runs out. Which means I may be able to send Yogi off with a day or two worth of food, but will not be able to send a big bag with him.

It will be a very sad day in the Randolff house when Yogi goes to his new home, but I will be glad, knowing he will be well taken care of! Whoever gets to adopt him will be very fortunate – he really is a great dog!

Oh, yes, We All Walked!! After the first mile, he was GREAT [actually, he got much better when he was NEXT to me and Flora took the outside position. He accidentally got away from me and ran toward a couple of small dogs walking and was GREAT!! He just sniffed them both and the owners helped me re-attach him to his leash.

I checked the place where I had Jasmine neutered. They DO microchip [$25] and have vaccinations. According to the records I have, his last set of shots included Rabies, DA2PPC, Kennel Cough on 3/20/12. They will be set up with microchips this Saturday. Other than the “humping” [ALPHA-ism], he and Flora are really getting along.

Oh, also according to the Vet “report card”, he is diagnosed with a condition called: Elbow Hygroma. Looks like they simply encouraged the owners to allow him to lie on soft surfaces [he is presently sleeping in MY bed] so he should be in good shape for this.

I plan to get him [and Flora] groomed next week I bet he will REALLY look HANDSOME then!!

Otherwise, ALL IS WELL in Atlanta-‘Dale-land’.
