Barbara,
When checking Airedale Rescue SC it included a US map that showed how many Airedales were available in each state. Turns out it is a “Rescue Me” website where the owners can list their Airedale. In this particular case, the teenage son of the family bought the Airedale from a breeder, brought him home (without the parents knowing) and failed to take any responsibility for his care. The family operates a business from their home and has 2 other small dogs. After several long conversations with the owner it became clear that this was a situation that the family simply did not have the time to give this boy the attention he needed. It was very difficult for them to part with the dog but they wanted a say in choosing the new home for him. So, last Saturday we drove to Indiana (near Cincinnati) to pick him up. He is a beautiful Airedale with the sweetest disposition that simply craves some attention. After 4 days, the boys are getting along fairly well. It will take a few weeks before they will have a good understanding of each other and be able to play together. The “honeymoon” period.
We’re not quite ready to Foster but we certainly could transport and we certainly could be called upon to spring a dale from a shelter and be called upon to see if it is a “dale”. Once these two boys are totally comfortable with each other, we might consider a short-term Foster. Now that I’m retired, I have the time. I would want to discuss this with our Vet to see if he is able to provide discounts for services if needed.

Barbara,
I noticed the vets number was in Columbus, Ohio so when I called to talk to the vets office they said that they had not seen Lucy, their cat, since 2010 when she came in to be spayed and declawed. They also said that they still have them listed with an Ohio address….so I guess that needs to be checked out?
Thanks,
Sue

The vets office said that they were good clients and up to date on their shots and heartworm meds.

Bought a puppy who was 4 mos. Countess is her name and they call her “Tess”. Their other dog is named Duchess. I offered her Ellie Mae.
Deb ended up adopting an Airedale from a Birmingham all breed rescue in winter 2012? WE’ve had updates of some troubles but Deb seems dedicated to working it out.

Hi Barbara,
I wanted to let you know that we rescued a wire fox terrier about four weeks ago from an older gentleman who was no longer able to care for him. He has been the sweetest guy, and we love having him – we don’t know how we went so long without a dog!
We’re still very much interested in volunteering either as a foster family or transportation. Anders is very dog friendly, and I think he would enjoy the company a foster dale would bring. Let us know if you ever need our assistance – we’re happy to help.
Best,
Eric

Hi Christina,
Thank you for following up! This is my personal email address, I must have sent you the email from my work address on accident.
I am interested in a younger dog, but I am open to various ages if the dog is the right fit. I am also willing to travel to a dog if that is needed.
Do you have any pictures of Maddie?
Thanks again,
Carly Mathes

My name is Christina and I am a volunteer with ARG. I wanted to thank you for your application to ARG. Normally, our volunteer named Barbara Lawson handles applications and interviewing however her computer started to fail her last week and by Saturday she had to take it to the repair shop. So, we’re a little delayed in starting our communications with a few recent applications – like you!
Our process starts by checking vet references and then an interview(s), followed up by a home visit. I see that you all are very terrier experienced and that is great to know. I think that you’ll love the Airedale since you’re familiar with Lakelands. My aunt has a Lakie and I know they’re wonderful and smart and true terriers!
Since Barbara is without her computer, I wanted to welcome you all and let you know that we’ll start the process of checking the references. To complicate items more, she and I both have planned trips that will take us away from our volunteer work next week but I promise to you that things are rolling and we will be in touch. Please let me know if you have any questions.

On Aug 2, I called the landlord Tim Floyd about the Mathes and adopting a dog. He was not aware that they were doing this but he said he did not have a problem with it. He finds her to be very responsible and he does not see it as a problem. He said that the yard was fenced so a dog would be safe. I told him it was preliminary and they had applied and just wanted to make sure he was in agreement with bringing a dog to the residence.

I see that you are interested in a young Airedale and specifically one that is 6 mos to 1 yr old. Its unusual for ARG to get in a dog that young however that would probably be key to your needs as you have a cat. Often Airedales are prey driven and we have to be super careful about placements if we don’t know about the dog and cats. One dog that we do have in ARG care is named Maddie and she is known to be good with cats. She is 8 y/o and in the Knoxville area.
I will start the next steps in the process and we’ll contact your vet for references. If you have any questions, please reach out to me. Thanks.

Subject: Question….
When Ellie Mae peed outside just now, she had a thick yellow discharge hanging from her urinary area. The Centreville vet was closed, but our vet said it could be a Urinary Track Infection. From what we can see it isn’t red or ichy, she doesn’t lick back there and she pees with no problem. We will call the original vet tomorrow and see if they noticed anything. If it continues or gets worse, we’ll take her to our vet in Prattville, if that is ok. Let me know. Lori 334.590.0235
