They were walking on Saturday and Addie’s leash got tangled up, Jim tripped and fell, and broke his hip. He had surgery on Monday, not a replacement but repair.
He is still in hospital and they are finding out when he will be released and if the rehab facility in the same medical building will accept him for rehab; depends on what their insurance will cover. She is hoping for that, so he will be stronger when he comes home.
She said everybody they know is full of advice ranging from
“you have to give her up” to “she can come to TX” (family member) and everywhere in between.
She said I am just going to call Barbara, and Jim said, good idea.
I was mentally preparing for her saying she needs to be returned, but no.
Her concern is what will happen when Jim comes home and probably will have a walker for a while.
I talked about how she will be curious at first, and so excited to see him (she is more attached to him than her and has been looking for him all week) that she would have to be careful at first so she doesn’t do the clumsy stuff.
I reminded her how Airedales tend to be very adaptable and resilient with changes. I gave the example of Scott’s dad who used a walker for his last few years. Once the dogs had inspected it, on our visits, it just became part of the normal.
Fortunately, her daughter, who is a vet, and her son are giving the good practical advice: Take a few days and decide what you can handle. She has a brother and sister who have chimed in as well with all good intentions.
She promises to keep me posted.
A reminder: they are both in mid 70’s, quite active and very fit. Addie came from Daphne Dean in AL
She asked for Nicole Nunez phone # who is close by and did their home visit. I said I bet she would be happy to give you a break if needed when you are going back and forth to the hospital or rehab facility as needed.
6/20/2013, the saga continues
Her first Airedale was also called Tess as well, and she was pick of the litter. This Tess was a backyard breeder. She says this Tess was last of the litter. Tess turned age 6 on May 2. She is not a protector, just a sweetheart. In my opinion, Tess 2 was never going to measure up.
Husband almost died 6 mos ago and Linda would not have been able to take care of Tess. Linda is 71. They have been married 49 yrs. She talks like she is so old! She tells me when she is age 77 and has to place Tess??? She says if anything happens to her husband, she will have to give her up. So she thinks it would be better for Tess to be placed now vs when Tess is older. Or she would have to take her to a shelter. She uses that all the time and I tell her no, do not do that. She goes on and on about the dog fighting in town and how Tess would not be a good dog fighter. So after she talked to me last night, her husband told her not to talk to him about that. He loves Tess. He walks her every day. He washes her when she goes on a dig. The scratching at the door is not a big deal. She ended it of say you’ll probably hear from one of my kids when I die.
They have a home in Fl. They have a mountain home. Their home in Macon has 5 acres. They take the dogs to both places. Tess sleeps right next to her .
She will talk to her husband again, about this wonderful family of Nicole. 🙂 She really likes how Nicole sounds.
She threw away the release form. She does not look at a computer. She needs surrender document again. Can anyone mail this to her?

Linda has to give her a bath every day bc she digs
When it rains, she scratches at door because she is terrified of storms. She has had to paint her door 3 times.has started in the last 6 mos.
Tess plays with her little 11 lb dog all the time. She does not know about her and bigger dogs. If her husband walks her on leash, her husband has to walk to other side of street.
Tess and little dog sleep together in her room.
She told me that her middle son who is not even age 40 just had major spinal surgery.

Sorry, no pics yet. I looked late last night but there weren’t any that showed her off. I plan to take her out today and send some. Can i just forward the pics to the number below?
She goes potty before gg into the basement each night. She sleeps in the climate controlled part of our unfinished basement on a dog bed. If she were to be put in a crate, I seriously doubt she’d mess in it. She does well in the basement with no accidents unless we oversleep. Her birthdate is 6/7/06.
She loves to be rubbed on…. as most dogs do. Last night, I loved on her some and she put her paw over me when I tried to get up and softly whimpered. I had forgotten she does that.

It breaks my heart to do this but I know it is best for Blue. I filled out the form and attached it. There is so much more I can tell the new owners. He definitely needs lots of attention and a fenced yard with lots of playtime and someone to walk and run with every day. He is a good boy but still needs some training. Our trainer says he still has some stress from his past that comes out sometimes as barking and aggressive behavior toward trucks, loud motorcycles, and sometimes other dogs. But, he plays with the neighbor dogs and is sweet with our little dog. I do not think a shock collar should be used on him. He is too smart. We did teach him to the invisible fence and that worked well most of the time.
Please find him a loving family.

Hi Barbara,
Mike and I have had Blue for over a year now. He was two years old when we got him. He was not housetrained, never groomed nor had any social skills. We have worked and worked and he is now very good in the house, sleeps in our room, plays pretty well with our smaller dog. He is trained to walk on the leash and does well most of the time unless he sees another dog or trucks with trailers. We tell him to sit or lie down and that works most of the time. Other times it is all I can do to hold him and sometimes I can’t. The trainer says he needs to play and tug with us to relieve his stress and he needs lots of exercise. He also jumps on people who come to the door. He is big and strong and can hurt you without meaning too. We have been working on sit and down and he is doing better.
Mike and I both have bad knees. We are in our sixties. . It is hard to walk him and exercise him enough. We have been thinking that he needs a new home. He needs a younger family with maybe ten year old children and up. He needs someone to run and play with him. We just cannot do it.
We have two new grandbaby girls on the way. Our children are worried he will be too much around the babies. So we will need to kennel him each time they visit. He seems to like children but I think they should be older.
Do you know anyone looking for a dog like Blue. He is beautiful and so loving. But he is strong and mouthy and sometimes a little out of control. He will run too, so they will need a fenced yard. Even a couple with no children would be good if they can run with him and give him a lot of attention.
This kills us to do this but we think it is the right thing to do. We sure hope you can help us place him in a loving situation.

Thank you all for helping to get Finnegan transported to his new home. ARG appreciates your time and effort to help us get Finnegan from Lawrenceville to Stem.
Finnegan is a good 1 year old Airedale boy. As you know, it’s hard to be perfect when you’re a 1 y.o. Airedale boy. Overall, Finnegan should be an excellent car rider however a few things to keep in mind. He is a chewer. He is not going to chew your seats…..but if you left something easy for him to chew on, he might. He LOVES food so try not to eat in the car with him while transporting as I think he would end up in your lap:).
When stopping to transfer him to the next driver, please do so with caution. He is with people he does not know and anything normal could startle him. Always keep a firm hand on his leash. When opening the car door, ensure that you have your hand securely in the leash. Be aware of cars in the parking lot..
