2/25/2021: Cindy Myers contacted. Will do a weekend trial the weekend of March 6-7
February 23, 2021 at 8:11 pm in reply to: 2021 Martin Harrison, Davidson NC, NO Fence, NO ADT Exp, No pets, 0-2 hrs alone_did not adopt, cancelled HV #268422/23/2021 From Julie E. Very nice man, had goldendoodle – looking for a more active dog. He runs 50 miles a week and they walk the door -2-4 times a day.
Fenced in yard is going to be expanded bc the neighbor is putting up more fence.
Vet – seen every 3 years for wellness and vaccines, Had mass on spleen, euthanized at home *
Joe Pope is his brother in law who is on his 3rd Airedale – so he has a knowledgeable expert, Friendly with his vet, and Neighbor is a dog trainer. So he has LOTS of subject matter experts.
I recommend a home visit.2/23/2021: Pat spoke with Matt Wild last night. Penny is a digger and sounds as if she “plays” her people not coming in when called. Family is currently living in a condo until home is done; Penny is a big digger in the yard. Sounds like an active family who love Penny but it is just not a good fit. Kids don’t seem to care. Wife prefers the Boston terrier.
Waiting on photos and vet records. This may be a waffling parent as they are feeling very bad about giving her up.

Hi Brett –Thanks for the update. If he has not followed-up with you in a month, and he knew the ball was in his court, generally I put them in a category of “they will contact us” and don’t expend more energy.
I will put your notes on the message board and move him to never adopted.
Thanks.

Hey Pat,On last chat I had with Joseph, I feel as if we had covered most of the bases and I would assume he and his wife would be ready for a home visit.
I haven’t heard back from Joseph and the ball was last in his court to get back in touch with me.
I’m relatively new to this. How aggressive would we like to be in following up?
Thanks,

We had a follow up and I’m waiting to hear back from him at his convenience to finish reviewing the application details.I’ve got notes from our previous call which was cut short due to work constraints.
He’s a much better candidate via phone than what the application would suggest.
Notes thus far (expected we will reconnect this week to complete):
D11 – Wife – wants the dog as well.
Wife has prior experience with large breed dogs, had a German Shepherd.
What will you do if deployed Overseas? Joseph’s wife will stay stateside with the dog.Application mentions the dog being alone for 7 hours, but there are opportunities within the typical work day to ensure the dog is not left alone so long.
Typical Workday:
6a – PT
7:30 – home to shower
9AM – back to work
noon – home for lunch if need be (wife may also fill this role)
5PM – home for the eveningDoes not plan on kenneling the dog, but is open to doing so.
Joseph as never formally trained a dog. -Mentioned Caeser Milan and Ian Dunbar (i encouraged Ian and positive reinforcement training while discouraging negative reinforcement techniques)
Airedale Background:
Joseph was 10 when the family got theri first airedale and he is 21 now. The dog is 11 and still alive.
Also had a pomeranian and they socialized both
-Airedale is in Texas and his parents have the dog – it was theirs. It is up todate on shots, etc. That’s it for now, and I’ll follow up when I’ve got everything after hearing back from him this week.
Thanks,

After a few days of playing telephone tag, I was able to speak with Caroline Orman today and we had a good conversation. Champ is like their 3rd child, she told me. He goes everywhere with them and those times he can’t go with them on vacation, they have someone come to stay with him. Their daughter, Catherine, has pretty much grown up with him as she was just 1-1/2 YO when they rescued Champ and he is, she called him, “Catherine’s keeper.”
They would like Champ to have a companion. There are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood. Champs shows interest but is not aggressive. They have neighbors with a goldendoodle who once came into the house, walked over to Champ’s food bowl, and ate all the food without Champ having an issue with him doing it. Champ isn’t territorial so adding another dog doesn’t seem as if it would be a problem.
I asked about the size of their yard. She thinks it’s about 40′ x 50′. Part of that is bricked. I wondered how much space that would offer two dogs for running and playing. She told me that there are also side yards. I think the home visit can better discern the space. As I write this, I realize I forgot to ask about daily exercise/walks so the home visit volunteer will want to ask about that.
Craven Animal Hospital – Champ is up to date with all vaccinations, kept up with all the prescribed meds, etc.
Jill’s Pet Resort – Jill had high praise for the family and Champ and told me that Caroline would be an ‘ace’ candidate for adoption. Champ is in regularly for grooming and is a happy boy.

After all the training it still is not working with Hank. Hank is not accepting her.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I need to tell you after $2500.00 with a trainer things are not working out. Hank is very aggressive when she gets close to me. She is the sweetest girl, but I can’t continue to keep them separated.”
Tracey also stated his father is dying of heart disease and Tracey has to spend a lot of time with him.

to meYou’re welcome. He gave me a folder with great information and homework. Also told me to text, call, or email if any issues arise. I have a training log to complete and everything. For the first time in awhile there’s a calmness in the house and it feels good.

to Barbara, meGood afternoon,
I wanted to give you an update on Daisey’s first training session.
Larry was easy to work with and gave great instruction. He worked with both Daisey and Molly.
Today was the basics: recall, distance control, claiming the front door, walking, attentiveness, stay/back, boundaries, verbal commands and body language.
I have homework to do with each dog every day. The sibling rivalry will take time to work out. Once we get to where each dog needs to be on their own, we’ll be working through that.
I did see immediate changes in both of them with today’s training. Larry was pleased with the progress with both of them and tailored the training to each ones needs. He described Daisey as a pup who’s rough around the edges but wants to learn and do good. She definitely likes males and she took right to him.
Our next training is March 3 (his schedule is that booked). In the meantime, he gave us plenty to work on every day.
Thank you all for helping with this. Like I said, I see an immediate change in Daisey and we’ll work daily to solidify what we’ve learned.

> Hey Jackie. I’m just following up. I know you’re let down and bummed. Maybe you’ve had it. I’m so sorry. But we do need to figure this out. To date, we’ve spent over $3K and transferred them in and out of the crate 780 times. We’re really exhausted and broke from trying to make this work, and I feel horrible for Maddie. She’s the whole reason we were looking for a dog in the first place. I wanted her to have more quality playtime. Instead, her existing playtime was cut in half. Neither of them are having their needs met. I wrote to Nikki a week or so back about her first visit here, which was supposed to be tomorrow. I thought it was their “reintroduction day.” She wrote back that they’re nowhere near being reintroduced. It’s just too much. I hope you’ll get back to me this weekend.

> Hi Jackie. I’m writing a horrible email, something I didn’t see myself having to write. It isn’t going to work with Zeus. He’s amazing. He really is. I started sending Maddie for dog sitting 3 days a week to socialize her, because she’s dog-aggressive. I never knew this, because she’s been great with our other dogs and my daughter’s dog. I guess it’s because she was raised with them. This has been difficult… timing everything to a tee so that she and Zeus each get enough play. training, hand feeding, and muzzle acclimation time each day on top of regular feedings and potty breaks. The entire day is about them, regardless of whether we have work or plans. That would’ve been okay, but we’re still nowhere close to getting to reintroduce them. And it’s costing a lot of money… $800 out of pocket, plus another $250 weekly. Jamie’s trying but frustrated. I’m trying but exhausted. I’m so sorry. I hate this and don’t want to part with Zeus, but it’s created a negative situation for them both and us that doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. I’m not sure how you want to handle this. Of course, we’re willing to drive him wherever we need to. – Julie
