to Summits, mePam:
We are unable to take these Airedales, as we don’t have a foster home for them. I contacted our local Airedale Rescue and they referred me to the Airedale Rescue in your area. They are willing to take them and would be the best for rehoming them. The information is below. I’ve also copied Pat Hairston of Airedale Rescue in this email.

to MaryMary Ann-
I have an almost 8 yr old male Airedale, Francis. He was an ARG adopted dog in 2021. His person has dementia and the sister is seeking a new home for him. He does need to be brought up to date on vaccines and get a bath and groom. He is about 60 pounds, is neutered, and needs a refresher on obedience. He lives with 2 smaller dogs and has had some food anxiety issues with guarding his food. I suspect the dogs are not being feed regularly.
We could do a foster to adopt so ARG can get his vaccines updated and get him groomed. We know that heartworm/flea prevention was purchased in Sept 2024, however, we do not know if it was given regularly.
Francis is a sweet boy. Let me know and I am sure we can arrange transport quickly.
Grateful,
Pat Hairston

Thanks for your interest in Charlie or Duchess. Charlie was placed yesterday and Duchess will not do well in an e-fence.
Hope Monty is doing well.

to asholiviamay, me, jetstar511Good morning! Sorry for the delay in response, but we old folks were asleep by the time your note was sent.
We lost our Rosie back in April (enlarged heart, diagnosed way too late). She was, to date, the BEST dog ever we have had. We look forward to a comparison, in person, with Murphie. I don’t believe you will have to worry about us deciding not to keep him.
Our “dog outlook” went from “Where are we” to “Can you take him before Friday” in a heartbeat. So, we have had to make some decisions quickly, specifically to ensure we are prepared with all the necessary things, like clean pads/blankets and food/treats. If necessary, I can groom him if I must, but spending an hour plus with him on the grooming table isn’t the preferred way to start our life together. Thanks for the preferred food, BTW.
As I recall, the rescue group has a free-of-charge service to register the chip. Pat is the expert on that.
As far as transport goes, we are open to 26/27/28, whatever is most convenient for you. My MapQuest driving directions got a bit confusing once we got to TN-81, which is just over the TN line (we are of I-26 exit 15 in NC). If you have ever made that trip to that intersection, we would appreciate it if we could meet nearby for the handover. My cell is 484 888-1345, and we will be in a dark blue ’22 Volvo wagon (not an SUV). Time to shop for groceries and dog stuff. WJT

Hello!! I hope this email finds you well. I’m Ashley May, my husband and I were the lucky ones that got to save Murphie. He is the BEST dog.
The only reason we won’t be able to keep him is because our Welsh Terrier is a jerk.Murphie listens, zero accidents, great on a leash, hasn’t offered to destroy anything, and just wants to be a lap dog.
I will not be able to meet you until Sept 27th or 28th. My husband and I are going to HHI for a few days, and then on the 26th I’m hosting a tailgate party for my daughters high school cheer team at our home (yikes).
I will ask our vets office about giving him a bath and grooming him before we pick him up after we get home from HHI. We drive our dogs to wytheville, Va to be groomed (it’s about a 2 hour drive). Unless our groomer has a cancellation, she doesn’t have a time that will work for us. I’m sorry. He is a little smelly, but he isn’t allowed to have a bath until his stitches come out from being neutered. He has some missing fur which was caused from fleas. I can’t believe how much it’s grown back in the 6 days I’ve known him. The vet also sent some medicated shampoo. We took him to tractor supply and washed all four of his feet and used some waterless shampoo and the dryer.
If for any reason, he doesn’t work for you all. I will drive to pick him up. (423)833-3709. We are madly in love with him, it’s just terrible timing. We are going to be gone to Portugal for fall break Oct 2-13. So, if something happens and you change your mind, I’ll happily pay for his boarding and come get him when I return.
We’ve been feeding him Purina Pro Plan Salmon. He loves meal time!! He also enjoys a car ride, and long walks. When we saved him from the shelter, he had a constant low growl until we got him out of the kennel. Our vet said he growled there, but only in the kennel. We haven’t crated him any here at home, we actually don’t have a crate large enough for him. He was left alone for a couple hours today and thankfully didn’t destroy anything. 🙂
He has 5 more months of flea/heartworm pills- he will need the next dose on October 10. Also, his microchip information needs to be registered. I’m not sure if you guys do that or if the rescue handles it.
I’ll keep in contact with you guys if I think of anything else. Feel free to write or call me as well.
Thanks!

Hi Sam and Heather,
It’s very nice to meet you. We find it very interesting the similarities between our families. We got our first Airedale when our children (Jake and Leah) were the same age as your children. She lived to be 12-13, and we got our second one shortly afterwards, and he was with us until our kids graduated from college and moved. He passed on about 6 years ago at 13. I think once you’ve had an Airedale, you always love them. This is the reason we wanted another one, but life changes things sometimes. This is been a long, difficult decision, but we feel better about it now learning about your family.
Jolene is a jewel. She gets so excited when our grandchildren, ages 6 and 8, visit so I know she will be happy when she sees your children. Also, sometimes I puppy-sit my daughter’s blue healer. She gets so excited to have someone to play with, so she will be happier having a little brother. She and our dachshund actually play well together, considering their size differences, but not as hearty as playtime with dogs her size. So, we are out of town now, but will be back this coming Friday. We could meet maybe in Sylva this coming weekend? We are flexible. Just let us know your idea’s.
Sincerely,
Terri and Dennis> On Sep 14, 2025, at 8:48 AM, Samuel McGuire
