Hi Amy & Khaliah, I want to introduce the two of you. Amy is the surrendering owner of Maya and she lives in NC. Khaliah is an approved ARG applicant and hopes to adopt an Airedale soon. Khaliah lives in Atlanta area. I would like the two of you to exchange phone #s and a time that is good to talk to each other about Maya. I have explained to Khaliah how wonderful Maya is and shared photos with her. Of course, the photos are endearing but talking to each other will really give you an idea about how Maya is. Khaliah is aware that Maya and Gretchen had an altercation that ended in Gretchen having a broken jaw (?). Please talk amongst your selves. Khaliah will let me know if she is interested in meeting Maya. Thanks!

                  Subject: ARG home visit introduction

                  Hi Susan and Marjorie

I would like to introduce the two of you. Marjorie is an ARG volunteer and adopter. Susan is interested in adopting an ARG dale. Marjorie will contact you about a time for a home visit. A home visit will take about 1 hour as Marjorie gets to meet you face to face. Marjorie lives in rocky Mount. You two actually use the same veterinarian! I’ll let you two talk amongst yourselves about phone # exchange and a good time for a home visit.

                  Thanks.

And, what a sweetheart he is. The people at the vet’s office in AR told me he was sweet as he could be but dumb as a box of rocks. He is emaciated, covered in ticks, heartworm positive (of course!), intact, and has a broken left front leg – just the radius is broken, not the ulna, so my vet, Dr. Halford, believes he can fix him without surgery – just pins thru the bones with an acrylic device on the outside. He’s going to do the procedure tomorrow. He doesn’t think this injury is consistent with him being hit by a car. He thinks the ulna would be broken as well. He says it’s the kind of injury you see in athletic dogs – border collies, Aussies, when they jump for frisbees and land wrong. He said when he sees an injury like this, one of the first things he thinks is abuse – like somewhat whacked him across the front of the legs with a bat or a stick.

He is absolutely loving to women. When Dr. Halford walked into the room, the pup just froze like a statue. Dr. Halford noticed it before I did. He said some man has been abusive to this dog. He doesn’t flinch, but he just wouldn’t move. He did let Dr. H check his mouth, eyes, ears, etc.

Oh, Dr. Halford thinks he is about 2, probably no more than that, because of his teeth and the growth plates in his bones. And, in honor of the vet’s office in Arkansas where he was treated, Woodsprings Animal Clinic, I’ve named him Woody!

It’s going to be a long road, but he will eventually be a wonderful life-time dog for someone. He looks like my Vinnie. I am in love.

Margaret has checked out our web site, facebook, application process, and called Walnut Grove Animal Clinic (my vet’s office).

Anyway, the male Airedale has been treated at Dr. Mark Lawrence’s office in Jonesboro, (870) 933-7077. I have not spoken to his office, but Margaret told me the bill is $449+ for everything. I know that he does have a broken leg and they splinted that but I don’t know what all they did to him. Margaret talks, talks, talks, and I spent half an hour on the phone with her hearing about everything except details on the boy. They say he is sweet but a barker – he’s in a cage with dogs on each side of him – who wouldn’t bark. I don’t even know how old he is. My plan is to take him to my vet to get the leg fixed. She talked about the well-known orthopedic vet surgeon in Memphis, Dr. Tobias, and I told her I knew him and that we had used him (meaning Wendell and me). She said that is the only reason Dr. Lawrence feels good about letting this boy go to a rescue – that we’ll take him to Dr. Tobias. I told her I would first let Dr Halford look at him; she’s fine with that and with Dr H doing the surgery if necessary. I feel certain my vet can fix his leg and will give us a discount as he has always done, but if he doesn’t think he can do it, he will refer to Dr. Tobias.

                        Hi Barb.

Sorry to be so long getting back to you but I was out of town all weekend for a golf tournament.

Smoky is a great young dog. He responds reasonably well to simple commands – sit, come, down – and loves attention. Sometimes when we ride in the car he forgets which seat is his and which is mine. He is very affectionate and seeks my attention, working to get his head or snout under my hand if he sits beside me.

He hasn’t destroyed anything yet, and is currently inside part time and out in the back yard at others. I crate him at night.

He seems to be reasonably well housebroken, but I’m not good judge of that just yet.I have left him inside in his crate for 3-4 hours at a time during the day, and all night, and he hasn’t dirtied his crate.I have not yet left him out in the house while I am gone.

He is getting groomed Tuesday and I’ll get some pictures.

I haven’t had him around other dogs yet but will be doing so tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.

All in all, I think he will make a great addition to someones household.

As far as contact info goes, use my old address – 167 Lenz Drive, Kodak, TN 37764. I am in the process of moving but will continue to receive mail there for a while. My phone number is 865-804-7024. Feel free to give them my contact info but tell them I may not answer the 1st call if I don’t know the incoming number. I am mailing the contract and a check to you today. Everything is going really smooth with Mandy. She has moved right into the sofa for her bed, after she outgrew her crate. She loves it, and really plays a lot with her toys in the house and outdoors. She is so spoiled. i know it is such a different life from what she was used to from the looks of her when we got her. She has topped off at 53.3 pounds, which is a good weight for her. I had quite a scare from the vet at Banfield, she told me that Mandy was heartworm positive, and tick disease positive. I immediately took her to another vet, and had her tested for the heartworms, they said she was negative. Needless to say, I changed vets then. That vet at Banfield had told me that my other dog was heartworm positive last year. I did not get a second opinion, I just started treating him. He is fine now for a twelve year old. Andy loves to play with Mandy. Mandy was negative in February, and I had been giving her the prevention every month, so I could not understand them telling me that, is why I took her for a second opinion. All is well, now with the new vet. It is Highway 5 Animal Hospital, Dr. Michael Kay, phone number 678-501-7770, if you need it for the records. Thank you for letting us adopt such an amazing baby.

Just talked to her and told her about Minime and Kobe.

He main questions were are they up to date and healthy. I said yes.

Then she asked if they are good around kids.

I said Minime’s foster mom does not have children, but she is great at the dog park.

I don’t know about Kobe. I sent her the photos the groomer sent us.

They are headed to the beach (HHI) tomorrow and will return July 29. She will check in with me then.

                                Hi Christina,

We’re still in MB. Will be heading back tomorrow. Pumpkin did great in the car and at the house here though she still likes to sneak on the furniture and is giving the cat nextdoor a fright. We’ve left her alone several times and she’s been fine. She still has her cough. I’m assuming it’s kennel cough and am keeping her from getting too close to other dogs. We’ve been walking the perimeter of the dog park here so she can meet dogs through the fence. Sometimes she shows the usual friendly dog-meet-dog behavior. Other times she barks so enthusiastically that it is hard to tell if she is friend or foe – tails are wagging though so I think probably friend. When you said she didn’t do well with Tuna what did you mean? Was she aggressive? We took Pumpkin to the beach this evening. She enjoyed the walk but didn’t care to get her feet wet. She’s behaving like part of the family now. Will be in touch after we get back.

                                Carol
