                Subject: Oliver update/bills

                Hi Barbara and Christina,

Oliver did well in surgery today. They smoothed out his sharp teeth and only extracted 2 instead of the 4 they thought they’ve have to take. They removed 3 masses, one of which they suspect may be cancerous. They’ve sent off the biopsy to a lab. He was a perfect gentleman and everyone comments on what a nice boy he is (and he is).

He’s a little dopey right now, from the pain meds and the anesthesia.

I’ve enclosed scans of the two vet bills (which are high! Get ready!). If you’ll subtract the 200 dollar adoption fee from the total, that’d be great.

The total is: $1591.34 before my 200$ adoption fee. So, 1391.34 will be the balance. Hope that doesn’t break the bank!

My address is: 2438 Alpine Road, Durham NC 27707

                919 493 1270 is my phone

Thanks very much. He’s such a great boy. I hope that tumor is not problematic.

                  Hi y’all.

I took Oliver in today. My vet found severe dental issues, which will involve putting him under to fix (advanced periodontal issues), and he found two benign tumors, which he’ll remove while Oliver is under anesthesia. One on the eyelid, one on his right cheek (I found that one as well but not the eyelid). His anal glands were severely enlarged, which I discovered last night after finding poo all over my car and spending 30 mins trying to remove it from his rear. They expressed him and gave him a big bath and a potty patch. He smells so much better. He was in dire need of a bath.

Other than the above, he’s in good shape. He has 2 microchips for some reason. And we sent off a blood panel because his history shows he had hyperthyroid issues and he was in U/D which indicated crystals in his urine. I don’t know why he is not on either any longer and why Donalie didn’t mention it. I have to say, she really didn’t take good care of him physically. She loves him, absolutely, but he is overweight from table food (she told me she feeds him table scraps) and he smelled horrible and his mouth smelled bad as well.

He’s a great guy. I’d like to keep him. We like each other. I’m prepared for his potential health issues, which we’ll know about within a week.

The bill today was 300.00 $. He is scheduled to be groomed on Monday. Then he needs the surgery on March 10th. If it’s okay, I’ll submit all the receipts at one time and subtract the 200.00 adoption fee. Hope this is okay.

He’s such a good dog. A great companion. I feel lucky!

                  Thanks

It is so funny to hear from you as I was just thinking about writing to you. Riley was the biggest challenge I ever encountered with dales. We really questioned whether to keep him or not at the beginning, he acted so wild and possessed at times it sometimes scared me. But that being said he is a totally different baby now! We are in love. He just needed time to trust us and understand when a leash came out we weren’t going to tie him to a door, so sad. Now he knows when he sees the leash it means we are going on a walk and he sits and lets us put it on him. They had told us he was not a snuggler, not true. He loves to snuggle with us and he is the first dale that will sleep up on the bed with us at night! We love him and he has come such a long way since we first got him. I also think it took some time for all the meds they had him on to get out if his system. He is wonderful now, extremely intelligent, knows how to

Open doors we must keep all our doors locked otherwise when he wants to go out he would just open the door and let himself out! The other day we were out playing in the back yard and he heard the neighbors through the woods on their screen porch, he took off through the woods and when I caught up with him he had opened the screen door by the handle and let himself onto their porch and was visiting with them ! They thought is was great!!! He loves to visit the dog park where he is very social and loved by everyone, his best friend is Yankee a huge German shepherd. Lola is slowly coming around, she tolerates him and when she thinks we aren’t watching she actually plays with him! As to the new GRANDBABY he is wonderful with her very gentle and sweet. He is all puppy and full of energy and makes me smile every day with his antics, he is eager to please and quickly listens to us without having to raise our voices, he loves to get in trash cans so we have learned to keep them up for now, but the biting at us and our clothing has all stopped. I really think the drugs had him tripping out! He is our sweet Riley monster and we both love him dearly. We have taken him on trips two weekend ago we drive up to Knoxville and had a blast ! Hiked the smokies and Riley was on heaven! He had a blast and was so good! Well I have rambled on but I really wanted to share with you both the long road we have traveled with our sweet Riley. I am sure he will keep us on our toes but he is like a different dog now! Thank you for finding him for us!

                          Ladies,

My girl is not good. She has a large, abnormal mass on her spleen that has fluid in it. Also a lot of fluid in the belly. They drew fluid off the belly–filled with white blood cells and bacteria. They say she is in the beginning stage of becoming septic–at this point the only course of action is to open her up, remove the spleen and flush out her abdomen. She might possibly need a blood transfusion as well. Also possibly larger than normal lymph node in her chest. But not sure–there is something there.

She said it was a “guarded prognosis” with the surgery. Cost $4-$5k….

I will defer to your experience and recommendation for her. While I did not ask, she volunteered that she, in the state she is in now, is as good as she will be without surgery.

If you would like to call Charlotte Veterinary Specialists, their number is 704-949-1100 and ask for Dr. Sawyer. She is the Internist.

Please let me know how to proceed.

                          Thanks,

Can we please ask the current guardian to either give us some of the food she is on or let me know what exactly she is eating? THANK YOU!!!! Be safe and keep a hand on her leash. She is a good girl, has been dealt a bad card in life when the new baby and new dog moved in but she’s had a good week with Sara!
