Subject: Oliver update/bills
Hi Barbara and Christina,
Oliver did well in surgery today. They smoothed out his sharp teeth and only extracted 2 instead of the 4 they thought they’ve have to take. They removed 3 masses, one of which they suspect may be cancerous. They’ve sent off the biopsy to a lab. He was a perfect gentleman and everyone comments on what a nice boy he is (and he is).
He’s a little dopey right now, from the pain meds and the anesthesia.
I’ve enclosed scans of the two vet bills (which are high! Get ready!). If you’ll subtract the 200 dollar adoption fee from the total, that’d be great.
The total is: $1591.34 before my 200$ adoption fee. So, 1391.34 will be the balance. Hope that doesn’t break the bank!
My address is: 2438 Alpine Road, Durham NC 27707
919 493 1270 is my phone
Thanks very much. He’s such a great boy. I hope that tumor is not problematic.

Hi y’all.
I took Oliver in today. My vet found severe dental issues, which will involve putting him under to fix (advanced periodontal issues), and he found two benign tumors, which he’ll remove while Oliver is under anesthesia. One on the eyelid, one on his right cheek (I found that one as well but not the eyelid). His anal glands were severely enlarged, which I discovered last night after finding poo all over my car and spending 30 mins trying to remove it from his rear. They expressed him and gave him a big bath and a potty patch. He smells so much better. He was in dire need of a bath.
Other than the above, he’s in good shape. He has 2 microchips for some reason. And we sent off a blood panel because his history shows he had hyperthyroid issues and he was in U/D which indicated crystals in his urine. I don’t know why he is not on either any longer and why Donalie didn’t mention it. I have to say, she really didn’t take good care of him physically. She loves him, absolutely, but he is overweight from table food (she told me she feeds him table scraps) and he smelled horrible and his mouth smelled bad as well.
He’s a great guy. I’d like to keep him. We like each other. I’m prepared for his potential health issues, which we’ll know about within a week.
The bill today was 300.00 $. He is scheduled to be groomed on Monday. Then he needs the surgery on March 10th. If it’s okay, I’ll submit all the receipts at one time and subtract the 200.00 adoption fee. Hope this is okay.
He’s such a good dog. A great companion. I feel lucky!
Thanks
Rebecca

It is so funny to hear from you as I was just thinking about writing to you. Riley was the biggest challenge I ever encountered with dales. We really questioned whether to keep him or not at the beginning, he acted so wild and possessed at times it sometimes scared me. But that being said he is a totally different baby now! We are in love. He just needed time to trust us and understand when a leash came out we weren’t going to tie him to a door, so sad. Now he knows when he sees the leash it means we are going on a walk and he sits and lets us put it on him. They had told us he was not a snuggler, not true. He loves to snuggle with us and he is the first dale that will sleep up on the bed with us at night! We love him and he has come such a long way since we first got him. I also think it took some time for all the meds they had him on to get out if his system. He is wonderful now, extremely intelligent, knows how to
Open doors we must keep all our doors locked otherwise when he wants to go out he would just open the door and let himself out! The other day we were out playing in the back yard and he heard the neighbors through the woods on their screen porch, he took off through the woods and when I caught up with him he had opened the screen door by the handle and let himself onto their porch and was visiting with them ! They thought is was great!!! He loves to visit the dog park where he is very social and loved by everyone, his best friend is Yankee a huge German shepherd. Lola is slowly coming around, she tolerates him and when she thinks we aren’t watching she actually plays with him! As to the new GRANDBABY he is wonderful with her very gentle and sweet. He is all puppy and full of energy and makes me smile every day with his antics, he is eager to please and quickly listens to us without having to raise our voices, he loves to get in trash cans so we have learned to keep them up for now, but the biting at us and our clothing has all stopped. I really think the drugs had him tripping out! He is our sweet Riley monster and we both love him dearly. We have taken him on trips two weekend ago we drive up to Knoxville and had a blast ! Hiked the smokies and Riley was on heaven! He had a blast and was so good! Well I have rambled on but I really wanted to share with you both the long road we have traveled with our sweet Riley. I am sure he will keep us on our toes but he is like a different dog now! Thank you for finding him for us!

Some notes I took while talking to dr
High temp, low white blood cell count
Came in and felt mass in belly
Mass on spleen β with pockets of fluid
Clotting is normal
Fluid β bacteria with neutrocells which is septis.
Do not know mass.
Lung tissue is ok but lymphnode looks enlarged
Only way is to go to surgery
Absyss on spleen β what if
Guarded prognosis
Risk for anesthia, making it through surgery, canβt make it through every
Euthanize.

Ladies,
My girl is not good. She has a large, abnormal mass on her spleen that has fluid in it. Also a lot of fluid in the belly. They drew fluid off the belly–filled with white blood cells and bacteria. They say she is in the beginning stage of becoming septic–at this point the only course of action is to open her up, remove the spleen and flush out her abdomen. She might possibly need a blood transfusion as well. Also possibly larger than normal lymph node in her chest. But not sure–there is something there.
She said it was a “guarded prognosis” with the surgery. Cost $4-$5k….
I will defer to your experience and recommendation for her. While I did not ask, she volunteered that she, in the state she is in now, is as good as she will be without surgery.
If you would like to call Charlotte Veterinary Specialists, their number is 704-949-1100 and ask for Dr. Sawyer. She is the Internist.
Please let me know how to proceed.
Thanks,
Georgia

Hi everyone!
I will be at Sola Salons near SouthPark Mall. The address is 6324 Fairview Rd, Charlotte. It is in the Dupont Building. You will drive around to the REAR of the building–that is where I will be parked. Let’s say 5:45 to be safe. Can we please ask the current guardian to either give us some of the food she is on or let me know what exactly she is eating? I’d like to put her on “quality” food and will need some to mix in over the next few days. I do NOT want to come home to a mess…if you know what I mean! π
Trim down is scheduled for 9 AM Sunday (though if she is nasty, she may get a bath tonight too…) And she is going to see my vet on Wednesday morning at 7:30.
See y’all soon!

Thank you all for helping to get Addie to her new foster home with Georgia and her Airedale Beau!
Sara is the young lady at the shelter who took Addie Mae into her home this week, having worked with ARG in the past and wanted us to have her. We’re so thankful for this shelter to take good care of Addie Mae this week. Sara’s parents will be driving from Rutherford to Gastonia to help out so the people you will meet are Sara’s parents. I only have their phone info – so they are not included on this email. All communication to them is through phone and text and I texted to Sara this AM – she was still asleep as she worked a double yesterday and she is working today. WOW! But she said yes, all is still a ‘go’. (And I’m sure she is wondering why I bother her at 8:30 AM!)

Hi Billie – you and I keep missing each other and I am tied up in a meeting again for a while today.
Fancy is sooo adorable. I also saw that she is on Craigslist – so I understand you are looking to find her a home quickly.
I do want to speak to you in person – but I thought a note would be a quick background about ARG.
As you probably can tell – we’re a rescue group which supports the Southeast for Airedales. Our group has been around since 2000 – mostly the same small group of ladies finding homes/families for ‘dales in need. We have a very thorough process of interviewing applicants – from checking veterinary references to an interview over the phone to a physical home visit interview with the applicant. We do tell families “No” if the match is not right for an Airedale. In the end, I am always so so proud of our adoptive families because the Airedale has landed in a terrific home.
I hope you will allow us to place Fancy in an ARG home! I have a family in College Grove who has been waiting for an Airedale for a while – it may be a really good match for Fancy but of course won’t know until I hear about Fancy more.

3/19/14 cp notes
When I spoke to Billie she had spoken to Lori Nelson (NCAR) who had represented herself as someone in my group. I find this a false representation and it confused Billie!, the person who has the dog. I explained we were two separate groups, both Airedale rescue. Billie asked how do I know who to use. I said that both groups place Airedales and we would both find fancy a good family but she would need to decide. Billie could not understand bc Lori represented herself as someone who worked with me. I had written a note to Billie when we kept missing each other during the day, I told her that she had y information and to call me if needed.
I am sorry that Lori Nelson used our name to take advantage of this situation.
