Hey Christina- it seems impossible that we have had Lucy for 3 years. She has gained quite a few pounds-now 76 lbs which we are trying to keep her close to. Time flys. We did not evacuate during the hurricane. Lost electricity for 26 hrs so not as bad as some people. It was really scary when the back winds came-we had more down trees during that time but luckily nothing to our house. Tons of stuff in yard and some flooding in neighborhood but we lucked out. Taking Lucy to a great trainer to address her issues with other dogs on lease and she has been doing great. Being a rescue dog I probably haven’t been as hard on her as I should have been not knowing what she had went through with previous owners. I have been going thru with some health issues with a recurring metastatic melanoma which got me to surgery, radiation and chemo but now on chemo just every once in 3 months. Feeling great! I’m always on the rescue site looking at all your dogs and the adoptions. Great work!! Hope all is well with you and all this crazy weather we have been having. Have a great Xmas holiday and will keep all you up to date on Lucy. Thanks for all the good work you are doing. Joanne

HI Joanne
I’m checking in with you all about how you faired during the hurricane. Did you evacuate. Was there damage to your home. How did Lucy do. My parents live in SC and evacuated for a week. Hope everything is ok. It’s been 3 years since your adoption!

You are correct. I still have Ben and Jerry–my 13yo cats! I have been doing dog sitting in my home to help my canine longings so the boys are very “respectful” of dogs but I often put up barriers if I sense issues. B/J forget they have lived peacefully with a Dale and whft!! Plz ask if more questions. Thanks, Christine. D

Hi Dale
I’m sure your home is very lonely without a terrier. I know you are such a dedicated walker with your dog – somebody i always remember about you. You do not need to complete another application for adopting a. Airedale. However, please remind me, you have your two cats still? We have considered you for a few of our airedales in the past months but we rarely know of the dog is cat friendly. Something we have to be so careful with. Let me know your current cat situation! Thanks

Hi Christine–It’s was a year 09.22.16 that I had to put my WHFT down. I’ve missed both him and my ‘Dale Bella so much and have decided I want another dog or two. I’d sure appreciate you checking to see if and who might be available and let me know. Must I complete another adoption form?? Thanks! D

Hey Christina.
Ruthie is okay. She had a seizure on Monday and we took her straight to the vet. She was extremely lethargic and lost some vision in her left eye. They kept her at the vet for the day and gave her some fluids and she was 100% better when we picked her up that day. They started her on low dose phenobarbital and said to follow up in one week to check blood levels because it can be toxic and can also cause some dogs to be tired and some dogs just can’t handle it. Ruthless was definitely the case. With each pill she got so must worse. She got to the point Friday night where she couldn’t walk and her legs were giving out on her and her eyes were all glazed over and she couldn’t see. We called the vet Saturday morning and told them we wanted to start weaning her off asap and we have started doing that. She is doing much better today. We have an appointment this afternoon I’ll kept you updated. Dom and I already decided we are making sure she gets off of phenobarbital. Honestly watching her behavior Friday night was worse than seeing the seizure. Our hope is that it was just a one time thing. It doesnt seem to be a disorder and its likely that she picked up some toxin on our walks through her paw pads. She is already 8.5 years old and is also having some knee problems but that has been put on the back burner for now.
Glad to hear that tuna is doing well on that medication! They really are horrible to watch.

Hi, how’s Ruthie? I saw that you posted a seizure. I hope it is a one and only. Let me know how it goes. I happen to have some seizure knowledge due to tuna. He started seizures out of the blue when he was age 6. They usually lasted about 40 seconds. For a year I kept a log of how often they occurred. At first they were spaced out about every 3 mos but they became shorter period between seizures. My vet finally said we had to go on meds. He is NOT on phenobarbital which I think a lot of vets use. We use a med called zonamiside. It’s helped tremendously with the seizures. Knock on wood – last one was about 2 mos ago. We are at 2 seizures since he started the meds in January. My vet said that is good record. Anyways I went on more than I planned about the seizures and I hope you all had a one and done incident. I know it is soooo scary and upsetting. Thinking of you and Ruthie!

Beate has a soft spot for Airedale mixes and told us to call her if ever one came in the area and she would try to help out. she would be a great resource for ARG. I would use her for home visit, transport and she even said she would foster. She has an older male dale shepherd mix.

HI Beate you and I spoke this spring when I was on a wild goose chase to find an owner for a loose Airedale in Arden area. I think I told you but the dog and owner were reunited. Any chance you’re up to fostering this summer. An 8 y/o Airedale boy named BUcky. He is currently in Knoxville. He’s doing well with other dogs but not in an ideal situation to thrive. Thanks for letting me know.
