I would certainly recommend them for a rescue Airedale…they have a fenced in yard, and are both very athletic and while not runners, they did say they are in the habit of walking 3-4 miles a day with their dog.

The lab that they mention in their application doesn’t actually live with them. Not sure I understand how that works, but he’s in field trial training somewhere else, and if he’s successful, he’ll spend more time running field trials than living in the home with the family. The wife says he’s only ‘theirs’ because they paid for him. I get the impression she’s a little bitter about that. She wants a house dog/pet. And she is adamant about not wanting a puppy.

They do have a cat that is young and was raised with the lab and isn’t averse to dogs, but the dog can’t be averse to the cat. They said they got the cat to appease one of their sons after their Airedale was hit and killed by a car, explaining that he’s really the animal lover. They weren’t ready for another dog yet.

They do have a small in-ground swimming pool, and the dogs are welcome to use it, or don’t. The pool doesn’t have a security fence, it’s part of the back yard.

They went on to explain how their dog was killed, and they do live near a fairly busy road, but to hear them tell it, the dog was just crazy wild and there was a mis-communication about doors and gates being open, and he saw the opportunity and bolted. And of course being an Airedale had spotty, if any, recall. They have since put in an electronic barrier across the driveway in case that situation should arise again. They are still sad about loosing him and it’s been almost a year. They showed me a pic of him and he was a beautiful dog. He came from Caren over near Pittsboro.

The wife works only two days a week and the husband works seven on and seven off, so they have lots of time. I think they’re both physicians. He’s at the hospital, I know. She didn’t volunteer and I didn’t ask.

Anyway, I think they would be a good ‘Dale family,

Have a wonderful holiday season, my best to Mr. Tuna,

Our engineer in Huntsville has settled into his new home and is ready for a ‘dale! See below.

                        He was a good candidate!

                        Hi Mary,

Happy new year and hope you had a wonderful holiday!

I just wanted to follow up on this now that the holiday season is wrapping up. I am pretty much settled in and ready for a house visit. I also have some interest in a few of the dogs you guys recently got – Birdie, Lady and Luda.

I saw some information on the site about Luda and noticed that it said she was an outside dog. Is it possible to/how much effort is required to help them acclimate to an indoor environment? Would there be any more information you would be able to provide at this time on the other two?

Thank you for the help so far!

I appreciate the response, but I went with another rescue and am scheduled to pick up tomorrow.
                          Thanks again.

We received your application to adopt one of Airedale Rescue Group’s spare ‘dales and I would like to set up a time for a 20-30 minute call next week to talk. Early to mid-afternoon is generally good for me. I could also talk Sunday between 1 and 3.

Let me know what works best for you. I look forward to speaking with you.

                                Christina,

                                Hello!

I hope you had a great Holiday season.

I have sad news concerning Martha. As I discussed with you in the email below in July she had tested and showed high protein levels in her Kidneys.

Additional conversations with my Vets Kevin Lowe, DVM, and Dr Carr at Flint River Animal Hospital led to 2 separate rounds of genetic testing with the Auburn University Veterinary Team.

It was determined that Martha had one bad gene (not 2) and this genetic issue led to a diagnosis of Protein Losing Nephropathy.

We used a variety of meds to treat Martha and while she did exhibit some symptoms such as lack of energy and decreased appetite she responded well to her meds.

There is no real cure for nephropathy in Dogs. The best we could hope for was to limit additional damage to her Kidneys and medigate the associated symptoms.

Martha was doing fine, however, in October the groomers reported that Martha did not want to stand and required assistance on the grooming stand. Additionally, I noticed her energy level drop off and our daily walks begin a steep drop in duration and distance.

The last 2 months saw additional issues present themselves such as sudden weight loss and loss of appetite. We changed her food to puppy food and changed her meds to allow her kidneys to process some protein and hopefully gain back some of the weight she had lost.

Martha fought a valiant fight but it became very apparent that she was losing the battle. She lost 15 lbs and all her muscle in the last few weeks. She was having issues using her doggie doors and her stamina was next to nothing. She had difficultly just dealing with normal day to day life.

Martha was an Airedale that in her prime would walk up to 2mi, loved to play with her toys, and alerted when anyone or thing was in close proximity to the house.

Doctor Lowe believes that the combination of nephropathy and her age 11yrs (DOB 7-11-10) were just too much for Martha.

After shedding many tears and in consultation with Doctor Lowe I made the difficult decision to humanely euthanasia her this past Tuesday 28 DEC 2021.

I want to thank ARG for giving me the opportunity to adopt Martha!

She was a total joy and loyal companion. I miss her terribly everyday!

I am making a contribution today to ARG in her memory. I will never forget her and expect to see her waiting for me in Heaven along with her ARG brother Henry and Samantha (her black Airedale sister) (I just hope I make the cut!).

Thank you Christina & ARG for all you do to bring these little angels into our lives!

                                  Hello Alecia, George & Karen,
Tomorrow, Saturday Dec 4 is a big day for Tank! He will be going to his new family in Charleston SC! We’re so thrilled for Tank and thankful to all of you for helping him to get to his new family.
Safe Travels on Saturday. I will be available for any questions. Let me know when you’re safely back home! Pictures are welcome but safety first! (Christina 919-605-4563)

                                  Safety:
Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Tank when opening car doors, transferring him from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Unless necessary, remain in car with A/C until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured by hand on the leash; when allowing potty breaks – ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let him off leash at any time 😊
Do not feel the need to walk Tank outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car in the A/C will be fine for him. (IF you have a water bowl, please bring it so he can take a water sip between cars to keep him hydrated)..
PLEASE USE YOUR CHILD LOCKS so that Tank cannot accidentally open a window or door! (It has happened!
