June 15, 2022 at 9:32 pm in reply to: 2022/2021 HUEY (nee Hughie, Chewy), M-Neutered, 3 yr old, Dacula GA, NO CHILDREN, NO MALE DOGS Returning to ARG 3/13/22; 5/21/22 #29308
Hey there Christina- Chewy/Huey doesn’t care about his name, btw, we have used both interchangeably. And he is doing GREAT! He has shown aggression to another dog we recently got in, an intact male- another intact male he gets along fine with. The dog he was aggressive towards is an older, mature dog from NC Boxer rescue. The other intact male is still a puppy. We corrected Chewy with a sharp no and redirected him a couple of times; now they ignore each other.
He does appear to get along with other dogs – however I would careful about acing him in a home full of dogs. Chewy plays hard and this would need to be held in check.
I have not had him around cats yet.
Chewy is a water hound. He ADORES a spraying nozzle and a hose. He knows all his manners and commands- he just needs someone to enforce them with consistency. Then his manners are impeccable, really.
My bad on the pictures – Hailey and I each thought the other was taking them. She tries to post to Facebook regular, but she just got back from a short trip. I will send some pictures when we work him this afternoon.
Chewy is fine- we will work with him as long as necessary. The $20/night is fine.
Thank you!

Hi – you mentioned $20/day but if you feel he is more – then I understand.
Few questions
Have you seen him with cats? Other dogs? Do you have any pictures?
Glad that he is a sweet bully – i know that he has it in him. It’s the people’s fault for not giving him rules to follow!Christina Prange

Oh he is a bully, but a sweet bully. 🙂

I did not want you to think that I had forgotten him. Love thta he is talking and not growling. I think that is where he has been failed in two homes – no one reinforced boundaries and he took over. Thank you for seeing that its correctable. Bully – yes, he is a bully and needs someone who does not let him do that.Do you need us to pay you for his time there so far. We can send a check and pay for his time since he’s been with you a bit. I appreciate that you and Hailey are working with him – so appreciated.

Subject: Re: Checking in on HueyHey there Christina! You caught me online….Chewie is a bully, no doubt lol- but he is learning to respect us, yes indeed. He is definitely used to being able to bully people space, and we work on rectifying that with short, simple corrections, and loads of positive reinforcement and praise when he acts properly. Hailey says he has gotten “love bombed” by people, who then get scared when he acts up- and he has been getting away with it for a while….she is right, but we believe it’s correctable. We are a bit short handed here with numerous tasks, but I hope to have some nice pics to share Wednesday or Thursday. Note- what you were calling his growling, we call “talking”. We haven’t heard him actually growl yet. Each day he grows more comfortable and we have to reinforce our bounds daily with him right now. Maybe we’ll hear more of a growl this week. Thank you for checking in!!! I need the reminders lol….

Hi Chris & Robin – thank you for this positive update! Of course, if it’s not positive – want to hear that too so we can help.It makes me so happy to hear that she is living in a home and enjoying toys. With humans.
Your temperatures sound brutal – similar to what I have up in Raleigh but I don’t live in as beautiful of a town as you all!
It is fine to have the spay at your vet. ARG will call in our credit card and pay for it – we can set that up in advance. Typically we ask for a rescue discount but completely understand if they decline. Can you see when the first appointment is that your vet has for her? And – whatever works best for your schedule too.

Subject: Re: PattonGood afternoon! Patton continues to fit in very well here. She is an incredibly sweet-tempered Airedale around us (she put her head in my lap yesterday-never had an Airedale do that- and looks for those all-important tummy rubs) and no problems interacting with Shiloh at all. Not a nip or push or growl. Still difficult to lead walk, we seem to have gotten just a little better, but that may have been the 106 real feel temp yesterday tiring us both out! Let us know how you all want to handle spaying-we got her medical records to our vet here but you may have connections with other local vets you all prefer. She is on an antibiotic and another medication for a skin issue that cropped up, but she seems fine. Not a surprise for an Airedale, but she is eating just fine, but clearly has been around people food, which I think comes from her time in the camper van. So far, no sign of counter surfing.
Better pictures to come, but Patton loves having toys around and people nearby.

Thanks for checking in on us! We are doing pretty well so far.
-Patton took about 2 hours to settle down at home, which was good as an adjustment
-no aggression towards Shiloh at all, but the Princess is unhappy she has competition for attention.
-took out almost every toy in the house, thought for sure our Airedale puppet was real.
-did not eat much, but she is used to the kennel food.
-very sweet tempered
Two issues
– awful on lead walks. Hard pulling, can be aggressive toward others dogs, have to keep her on a very short lead. But she probably has never been extensively lead walked. Needs the exercise, she is probably 6 to 8 lbs too heavy.
-nearly pooped in the house, but she had just gotten here. We will see if it is a pattern, has probably never had this much space.

Hi Tom
I am a volunteer with Airedale Rescue Group and we have a recent applicant from Gulf Breeze. I do not think they have applied to Sunshiners. They are interested in one of our ‘dales, Tucker. We have not interviewed them, just email correspondence that they are very close to Alabama. Would you like us to refer them to you all and start the adoption process through Sunshiners? Do you have any Airedales in need of homes – Tucker needs a home! We would like to think about them for Tucker but need you all to let us know if that would be ok with you. Also would need help with a home visit, if you had anyone in the area. THANK YOU!
