Bruce arrived at Deborah home after some tornados, he was returned to his family. Another tornado came through and he was back at Deborah’s. She met with the family who had him ans they agreed that D should take him in. Deborah said she just wanted him to be safe. She thought he might be a doodle – which she has but once he was groomed it was obvious he was an airedale. His hair was very matted. He was hot from his matted hair and had excessive panting but once he was shaved the panting stopped. Bruce has no issues with other dogs. He has been with smaller dogs than he, probably 35 lb. no cats. He gets out of fences easily. He is 66 lb. neutered and UTD.

She and her daughter have been trading Bruce to each other. She sent him to her daughters in Auburn, AL because there were no groomers in Camden,

Ryan and Frankie – I wanted to let you know that you are APPROVED by Airedale Rescue Group for the adoption of an Airedale. Thank you for your patience as we went through all of the steps of our adoption process. I know you all are going on your honey moon on 6/26. When you return, please let me know so we can talk about a few Airedales that we currently have in foster homes. Have a nice trip and email me when you are back! Thanks.

hi Renie – my name is Christina and I’m a volunteer with Airedale Rescue Group. I volunteer with Jackie Cash and Pat Hairson. Looking back at our applications and ‘filing’, I noticed that you had applied for an Airedale but due to home remodeling, the home visit process was put on hold. Are you still interested in an Airedale. Would you like to proceed with the next step, which is a home visit. I hope you’re still interested! Thanks.

                Sue,
Thank you so much for opening your home and life to Bucky. This precious boy is lucky to have Greg and I love him enough to give him the life he deserves with you and your husband. I know that you will love him forever. Greg and I will always love him. We both have a deep sadness and sorrow that we cannot give him all that he deserves.

We would be glad to meet you in Aiken on July 2nd after your gathering. Just let us know what time and where to meet you.

I am not sure if there is paperwork we have to sign but I will bring everything we have on Bucky. You are still listed on the PetSmart account, so you will be able to access his records. I’m sure Christina will let me know if there is anything else we need to do.

Thank you so very much Sue. Knowing that he will spend the rest of his life with people I know already love him is a huge comfort to me.

                Sincerely,
                Alicia

I would be happy to have Bucky join my family. Yes I know first hand that he is as you say “over the top.” LOL.
I know this was a BIG decision for you. So hard.

I am free Friday the 24th if Christina could be so kind as to arrange a tag team or…… I will be in Aiken on Saturday July 2nd for a family birthday party which is until 2pm or…… I will be in Columbia on Sunday July 10 for another family birthday party until 2pm. Sue,
I am not sure if Christina reached out to you and I was hesitant only because I don’t want to pressure you in anyway.

Christina reached out and I let her know what is going on, as set forth below. Greg and I love Bucky, but we are not what is best for him.

I know that you and your husband love Bucky. Sometimes the timing is off and maybe you weren’t thinking you were ready for a new dog, but if you have room in your hearts and lives, Greg and I sincerely believe that he should be with you. Greg is never going to be who he was again and though it pains him deeply, he simply cannot handle Bucky. I am having to go into work and travel more now and that leaves Greg to have to wrangle 3 dogs. If I am honest, they wrangle him. Gus and Bella pretty much sleep all day but Bucky, as sweet as he is, is over the top.

Would you and your husband be interested in having Bucky become your forever Airedale? We wanted you to be given the opportunity before anyone else is considered. I know you love him and that you will take care of him until he crosses the rainbow bridge. I wish our circumstances were different, but we have to adapt and deal with the reality of the permanent alteration of our life as it is now.

Please know that if this is not something that you and your husband can do, we will work with Christina and the rescue to find the right home and family that our boy deserves.

                Sincerely,
                Alicia

She said how’s Bucky and apparently she had been in Aiken and either contacted you or wanted to contact you. Did she? She said her husband still asks About Bucky all the time.

I can reach out to her and feel her out. Or you can. I don’t mind.

                Christina,
Interesting that you would email me to check in as I was going to check in with you. Greg is doing okay but is frustrated with his situation. He was hoping to get the feeding tube out this month but the doctor wants to check again in 3 months. He failed the swallow study, but the results were the same as 3 years ago. He takes all of his medications (10 pills a day) by mouth. He eats regularly but he did lost a little weight. So, we have it now until at least the end of August.

As for me, everyday is a challenge because the responsibilities of everything falls on my shoulders. He isn’t supposed to be driving, so that puts the burden on getting him anywhere on me. He cannot really stand for long, so meal preparation has fallen on me. That was something that he used to do. Taking care of the house, yard and dogs falls on me as well.

Bucky is sweet, loving, rambunctious and over zealous most of the time. He is very mouthy, much more so than any of the airedales Greg got as puppies. He has bitten, scratched and knocked Greg over more times than I can count. I worry when I have to leave the house for work because I just don’t know what his condition will be when I get home. I think he has stopped telling me when stuff happens because he knows I worry. I honestly believe he worries about what will happen when Gus is gone. He has only ever had Airedales his whole adult life. I think he thinks about how lonely he will be when he is home alone all day when I have to go to work. He tries so hard but I can physically see the toll this has taken on him. I don’t want him to end back up in the hospital or worse.

We love Bucky so very much but I don’t think we are good for him. Greg is not the same person he was this time last year and he never will be. I may be getting a new job that will require me to go to the office everyday. If that happens, I am going to either find a community center he can go to sometimes so he has someone looking out for him for several hours a day/week. Or I may have to find someone to come here to check on him. We are no longer puppy/young dog people—we are middle age/old age dog people. Greg worries about what people will think of us if we give him up. Greg would just as soon die himself than to lose a dog. I have assured him that no one will think bad of us. We can still help out the rescue and contribute time. Just because we do what’s best for Bucky in the long run doesn’t mean we are bad people.

We are struggling with this decision but the truth is I didn’t want Sue to get another dog if she wants Bucky. I just don’t know if you should check with her or if I should go to her.

Please tell me we aren’t bad people. Bucky deserves so much more than we can give him. That is the bottom line.

                What do you think?

                Sincerely,
                Alicia

Bunch of pics from their Catskills house and has offered to make a video of the SC house and area for us he was concerned about driving down for the HV and being declined – highly unlikely unless the HV person saw a major red flag, which I can’t imagine happening.

I’ll let him know of the potential adoption of Tucker and will ask about Huey and Patton. I know he’d like a younger dog but 4 isn’t too old.

                    Hi chris and Robin
Thank you for reviewing the medical records. It’s such a shame she missed the HW preventative for all those months in kennel. We will get that fixed!

These are the other things she should be done either Monday or Surgery day:
                    Blood pastel for pre surgery
                    Heart worm test
Purchase HW preventative (prefer heartgard if the practice carries it; due to cost). Would prefer not to use Triflexis
If HW positive, start on Doxycyclin
                    Fecal
Microchip – already chipped. Scan to ensure chip has not shifted – ensure it’s still thee,
Looks at fatty tumor that you felt on her leg
Rabies, if needed. does SC have a 3 year vaccine instead of 1 year? Only if she is due for rabies, otherwise hold off until due.
                    DHP, if needed.

                    Upcoming appointment
                    Spay

Happy Sunday! Patton is improving on the lead quite a bit, I would put her at a solid C, up from F- the first few days she was here. She LOVES her walks and her yard runs. It is not a big yard, but enough to get her up to speed. She and Shiloh play well together and still get along very well. A miracle, as best I can tell, as Patton does not react well to other dogs on walks. That, plus a few basic commands, is a training focus, but I will give it another week or so to assess how she is doing. As she settles in, I expect to see more of her personality.
In preparation for her Monday visit, I went over her medical records so I have a list of things to ask the vet. One that was a surprise is a 2020 Lyme positive test-she could not have ever gotten out much. I don’t see any evidence of an antibiotic regimen having been prescribed. Lyme tests are not known to be all that accurate, so I will get her retested and see what shows up. If you all have any experience with Lyme, let me know.
I can’t confirm a recent heartworm test, so I will ask about that. Until last month, she had not been on either flea/tick or heartworm.
Patton is a good girl and we are glad to have her here. Thanks for trusting us with her, we will do the best we can to keep her healthy and happy.

Good afternoon Pat, Christina and Jackie,
Robin has Patton scheduled for preliminary blood work at our vets for Monday, and we will schedule spaying after they get the results. We will request a discount (again), most vets will accommodate a rescue organization. If you all can give me a contact number so the vet practice can call for a credit card, that would be much appreciated. I understand our vet did get her records, I will send images of what I can get. Was going to stop in to the vets today to discuss what they plan to do for blood work.
We did get a behavioral trainer recommendation from the really nice people at K-9 resorts and we thank you for the offer to fund a bit of training for her. I know I talked to the owner once and he mentioned he was thinking of doing it, but never did. She is not well socialized to other dogs and will bark her Airedale head off in a relatively aggressive way, which surprises me that she is just fine around Shiloh. We would like to wait a bit to see what other possible behavior issues emerge, but we don’t have enough data points to assess yet:
Appears to love to hang out on the couch, and did not take well to being told to move. (fortunately, it is an old couch)
May have a bit of escape artist in her. She is always pushing to get out the door and into the yard. I need to get her whistle GPS up and running, in case she does try to go on the lam. Not a real surprise, she has been confined indoors for so long and in a small RV that as a big girl, she’d like to explore some and run around. Obviously, she could get in quite a bit of trouble this way, but I don’t think she has the same escape desire that our first foster had, who lived to try and run away as long as she could come back for dinner or bedtime.
Still pulls hard on the lead, but is definitely getting a bit better. We got her a good harness, which helps.
I still have the impression that she will counter surf given her personality and behavior, but has not tried it yet here.
Jumps up on people and doors, more doors than people so far.
Will try to get a few more pictures of Patton. She seems super comfortable here, as if she has lived here for years. A near twin to the other foster we had, except a bit bigger.

                    Chris-

                    Great news, update and photo!

I will send you a foster agreement and ARG will pay for her spay and followup veterinary for her skin. Please contact your veterinarian to schedule. On the day of her appointments, the vet office can call me for payment.

Also, if you would be so kind as to copy her veterinarian record and send that to us. Images are ok if that is something you can do. The vet practice has not responded to my request for the records.

If you would like to work with a trainer for her leash walking, ARG will cover that cost. Perhaps Kim at the boarding facility has a recommendation or ARG can locate someone near you.

Thank you again for taking Patton in to foster her.

Hey there Christina- Chewy/Huey doesn’t care about his name, btw, we have used both interchangeably. And he is doing GREAT! He has shown aggression to another dog we recently got in, an intact male- another intact male he gets along fine with. The dog he was aggressive towards is an older, mature dog from NC Boxer rescue. The other intact male is still a puppy. We corrected Chewy with a sharp no and redirected him a couple of times; now they ignore each other.

He does appear to get along with other dogs – however I would careful about acing him in a home full of dogs. Chewy plays hard and this would need to be held in check.

I have not had him around cats yet.

Chewy is a water hound. He ADORES a spraying nozzle and a hose. He knows all his manners and commands- he just needs someone to enforce them with consistency. Then his manners are impeccable, really.

My bad on the pictures – Hailey and I each thought the other was taking them. She tries to post to Facebook regular, but she just got back from a short trip. I will send some pictures when we work him this afternoon.

Chewy is fine- we will work with him as long as necessary. The $20/night is fine.

                            Thank you!

Hey there Christina! You caught me online….Chewie is a bully, no doubt lol- but he is learning to respect us, yes indeed. He is definitely used to being able to bully people space, and we work on rectifying that with short, simple corrections, and loads of positive reinforcement and praise when he acts properly. Hailey says he has gotten “love bombed” by people, who then get scared when he acts up- and he has been getting away with it for a while….she is right, but we believe it’s correctable. We are a bit short handed here with numerous tasks, but I hope to have some nice pics to share Wednesday or Thursday. Note- what you were calling his growling, we call “talking”. We haven’t heard him actually growl yet. Each day he grows more comfortable and we have to reinforce our bounds daily with him right now. Maybe we’ll hear more of a growl this week. Thank you for checking in!!! I need the reminders lol….

It makes me so happy to hear that she is living in a home and enjoying toys. With humans.

Your temperatures sound brutal – similar to what I have up in Raleigh but I don’t live in as beautiful of a town as you all!

It is fine to have the spay at your vet. ARG will call in our credit card and pay for it – we can set that up in advance. Typically we ask for a rescue discount but completely understand if they decline. Can you see when the first appointment is that your vet has for her? And – whatever works best for your schedule too.

                                  – awful on lead walks. Hard pulling, can be aggressive toward others dogs, have to keep her on a very short lead. But she probably has never been extensively lead walked. Needs the exercise, she is probably 6 to 8 lbs too heavy.
-nearly pooped in the house, but she had just gotten here. We will see if it is a pattern, has probably never had this much space.
