January 2024 – Megan’s female ADT is aggressive to her other two ‘dales. Her female is 4 ish (?) and the other two are middle and older aged. She has posted her issues on various FB groups. She mentions rehoming her aggressive female.

        Subject: Airedale Home Visit

Hello Jordan and Abigail – my name is Christina and I am an Airedale Rescue Group volunteer with Jo, who you met in the interview process.
I would like to intro you to Cassie who is an Airedale adopter, volunteer and lives in the Savannah area. Cassie will help ARG with the next step of the adoption process, which is the home visit. She has availability this weekend to home visit you, if you’re both available. I’ll leave it up to all of you to determine the best time to do the home visit.

So – please talk, coordinate and let me know! Thank you!

                  Michelle:
Dorthy has had high anxiety since her return. Favoring her back right leg a little and freaks when I am out of her sight. Mouthing has increased excessively and she has been on high alert. Working with her to get her back stable. I am absolutely so mad over this ordeal. I am still processing it and had you guys on my radar before she even went to this woman. But did not know how to reach out to you guys and even signed up for your Facebook page prior to this adoption fail.

From Michelle when asked about children:
She does fine around the grand kids under my supervision. She has been more mouthy since she has returned. But continue working on it. One thing for sure is when she gets overstimulated and loses focus I return her to her crate so she can calm down.
Here is a list of what she needs.
Someone who has experience with Airedale. Someone who understands she is a rescue and is not coming to them perfect. Good fences in yard only in yard while supervised. 10×10 kennel outside on concrete slab for when not supervised. She will dig given the opportunity but will stop when told. Someone strong in obedience and a leader for her. Crate in the house. She goes to bed around 9 and you will not hear a peep until 6 to 7. She is a 50 lb puppy for real! She is true to her breed. Loves lots of toys. She is very loyal too the people she loves. Listening skills have greatly improved and looks for guidance. She is thriving in strutucture and routine. I would not recommend small children because she is a lot and could cause fear in small kids. My grand son is 10 and she knows when he is nervous and it stimulates her because she does not get it is her he is timid of.
Have noted she is all over me if my blood pressure is up. She will jump on me even if given command. Until I sit down and take my blood pressure. She has been a good reminder to take my meds.

As much as I want to say yes to adopting this sweet baby, right now is not a good time for a puppy for us. I just got back in the office full time for a few months and not sure if I want to leave a baby in a crate 🙁 .
If there is any help getting him to a future home for driving, please let me know me know.

HV – ask sharper3026@gmail.com Susan Harper, she lives near Swannanoa. She has adopted 2X from ARG and has a current young ‘dale (not ARG but she got her through an ARG lead). Susan is great!

Michelle has a soft spot for Airedales so she has cared for Dorothy. SHe was placed in a home with misfit and Michelle went over transition and the adopter completly ignored anything Michelle said and within 12 hours, Dorothy was back with Michelle. The adopter did not give her the meds, nor use a crate, which Dorothy uses as her safe spot and crate will calm her.

At Michelle’s home, there are 3 cats and Dorothy will play with them – but she is too rough. When in her temp adoption home, she grabbed the cat and the cat ‘needed to be vetted’. MIchelle said she has no aggression to cats – just too rough. Overall – Dorothy is a heavy player – not aggressive.

She needs a very structured and disciplined home. Michelle advises that the home not be in the Asheville area as the owner is still in that area.

(When with owner, Michelle does not know what she was fed, given, meds – she suspects that DOrothy was given her owner’s meds at times).

                              Misfit Mountain Rescue:
Little Miss. Dorothy is aged around 1.5 years old and ready for her forever family!
She is spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up to date on age appropriate vaccines!
Dorothy is very playful with other dogs and is working on respecting boundaries and personal space. She would do best with an active family who can truly give her the time and attention she needs, as she is curious, active, & playful! Dorothy’s energy level is too much for young children but she would do well with mature/older kids! She is a big ol’ love bug filled with lots of kisses, cuddles, and hugs!
Dorothy loves to run around with her friends, play tug, and fetch. She would be a lovely companion for a family who is active & committed to helping her strengthen her manners!
Dorothy has been living the good life with her foster family, Michelle; we are so thankful for Michelle & her family for helping Dorothy along on this journey to find her forever family

Dorothy is with Misfit Mountain Rescue however her foster mom has reached to ARG for help to get her into an Airedale home. Foster Mom – Michelle is a groomer in Candler NC. Dorothy (formerly Jackie but she did not respond to that name) lived in a home with an owner who had mental health issues. Police officer found her tied up to a stair banister in her home, unknown how neglected/abandoned she had been. She had eaten the dry wall and baseboard. Police officer named her Dorothy and said for a dog who had been so badly treated by humans, she was never so happy to see him when he came in. Animal Control contacted Michelle the night Dorothy was ‘in care’ and asked Michelle to bathe her because she was in such neglect. Within a day or so, A/C called Michelle and asked her to keep her because she was not doing well in the A/C. At this time, she had not been formerly surrendered. The father and brother of her owner have since formerly surrendered Dorothy. Dorothy is with misfit mountain rescue.

Due to the trauma that Dorothy experienced with previous owner, she has anxiety and has been prescriped trazadone and gabepentin 3x/day.

                                Safety:

Regular safety – please ensure that you are aware of Kenai when opening car doors, transferring him from person to person, always making sure a hand is on the leash. Unless necessary, remain in car until transport transfer occurs; when opening car doors, ensure that the leash is secured by hand on the leash; when allowing potty breaks – ensure that collar/leash(s) are tight for no escape; be aware of surroundings – even a plastic bag in the wind may spook a dog in unfamiliar settings. Do not let her off leash at any time. Double Leashing is preferred if you have a slip lead to bring along for your leg of the trip.

Do not feel the need to walk Kenai outside if you arrive early. Sitting in the car will be fine for him. (If you have a water bowl, please bring it so he can take a water sip between cars to keep him hydrated).

PLEASE USE YOUR CHILD LOCKS so that Kenai cannot accidentally open a window or door! (It has happened! Airedales are very smart!)

                                  Hi!

I have 2 Airedales whom I dearly love, both rescues. I have been a member of ARG forever it seems! I’ve done home interviews for the group here in my town of Summerville, SC, and I also transported a rescue Dale down from central New York to his new home in Summerville. Happened to be visiting my brother up north, so it worked out well!

Anyway, all this to say I’d be happy to transport Sunshine from Columbia SC up to Wilmington. I would actually prefer to make the drive this Wednesday instead of the 22nd, if at all possible. I wish I could do the entire trip, but time prevents.

Let me know if you need me!

                                  Thanks!
