Subject: Nancy Wade referred me
Hi Christina,
i’m fostering an Airedale, lovely girl about 8 yo who was abandoned at the campground where i live. She’s going to meet a possisble-home tomorrow, but Nancy Wade said to contact you instead. not sure why…except that this girl *might* need more vetting than i can afford, adn also Nancy felt she’d get a better placement via an Airedale rescue. my concern is possible Cushing’s disease, b/c she drinks GALLONS of water a day (literally, i’ve measured) and her output is much less. the vet at first did not think it was an issue – figured she was dehydrated but now into her second week of plentiful food/water, she is still doing this. i cannot afford more vet bills. so am wondering if you’d be willing to take her.
i’ve had her shaved down – Gads you should have seen the mats. in fact i’ll include some. She’s extremely laid back, good with dogs, kids, etc. takes Remidyl occasionally for hips/arthritic back, but is quite a pleasant, almost-invisible dog. she has only this week learned to seek out human attention. has had first round of vaccinations but is due for the second round on the 25th. she also drops food a lot and has a side canine tooth that may need filing. i dont know her spay status, tho she has had at least one litter. my ph # – i’m here in Asheville – (803) 417.0340
Plz let me know what you think, and if you can take her.
thanks…Lynn Cooler

Subject: RE: Birkdale
Hi Christina,
Sorry for late reply to last email. Birkdale had a heartworm test yesterday and all is good there. He also had 2 vaccines – Rabies, 1 year and Distemper. He is not around children, but out and about socially, he loves the attention he gets from them. If he doesn’t know the person very well, it’s best not to get too close to his face and he doesn’t like sudden movements – it gives him a bit of a fright. He loves the beach, and goes every year. He’s very playful and silly – he likes to snuggle up and will sleep right on top of you if you don’t mind. He’s just like the cartoon character “Scooby Doo” – loves his snacks too.
Attached, are a few more photos. The photo of Birkdale hanging over the cooler was taken in his younger years, but so cute, I had to add it. The other 2 photos were taken around December last year. Please let me know if there is anything else you may need.
Regards,
Heidi

Heidi to bring Birkdale to me on Saturday march 31, 2012
She wants to drive him to Raleiglh, I offered to meet her half way but she thinks it will be better for her to transition him to me at my home.
Wow, so nice to hear from Belinda and Maggie!

Transport for Lucy!
Sandy, Melissa & Chris – Thank you so much for spending your Saturday to help
ARG with transport for Lucy. Chris picked up Lucy from a shelter for ARG a few
weeks ago.
Since she was picked up she has been spayed, bathed, trips to petsmart, and lots
of attention from Chris as she has been able to visit with her at Pet Pawlor.
Pet Pawlor
a fantastic boarding facility in the Huntsville area that takes very good care
of our ARG ‘dales. Lucy was surrendered due to not being a good hunting dog.
She may not have
excelled in her hunting skills but she is a love of a girl. (It was the gunshot
that she was afraid of, as we know, our terriers are good hunters!).
As we transport Lucy, please be aware of the transition hand offs. Lucy may
feel uneasy about the car rides, meeting new people, getting in and out of cars
and of course the
unknown surroundings. I picked hotel parking lots – tend to be less crowded and
better for hand offs. Keep a hand on her leash at all times. Be careful when
opening
the car doors, etc.
If you could each confirm that you have received this note, please let me know.
Chris, if you get started a little late or need more time, just let Melissa know
as she is in
Chattanooga area. If you all could just give a heads up to the next person so
we can adjust driving times if required.

Christina,
Miss Lucy is settling into the crate thing so much better. As you know these
things take some patience. She doesn’t even know “sit’ but we’re working on it.
She’s pretty excited about string cheese as an incentive! She does come when
she’s called, which is always a bonus. She’s also finally eating. I did have to
add a tablespoon of canned food to the kibble.

October 20, 2011 at 11:03 am in reply to: Private: Lucy, Huntsville, AL approx 1 y.o. at Christina's #12349I took her Monday to have her stitches out and she is being groomed now, so she is ready to go. She has lost 5 lbs. so the vet gave her a de-wormer and I bought her some better food. She is probably a little stressed being at the kennel. I am available to transport her to Chattanooga and not a minute to soon. I spent all afternoon with her after her vet visit… That was a big mistake! She is the sweetest most innocent baby. What a joy she is going to be for a great family. Just let me know the times and I will try once again to let this one go.

Joyce treated for on going Pneumonia
on 10/17/2011, Joyce wrote to me and BL
Well girls, I don’t have good news about Charlie. After additional weeks on some real powerful antibiotics we are no further forward on getting his pneumonia cleared up. Here’s Dr. McMillan’s game plan: stop antibiotic, on Friday he’ll do a transtracheal wash (wash his trachea, entrance of his lungs, with saline and recovering the fluid for culture and histopathology) and start him on plain old doxycycline. A) He hasn’t been on doxy yet and B) if it’s a MRSA infection sometimes they respond to some of the older drugs that have fallen out of favor in the past few years. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, he can’t rule out cancer. Cancer is what I thought of when I looked at the cd he gave me. There are puffy, cotton ball looking splotches of opacities on his lung field that strongly favors metastasis. So, we are officially in a holding pattern. I am going to love and spoil and take care of both Charlie and Cramer (and Bailey and Ally and 8 cats and two gerbils) till I don’t have any other alternative. I would be doing a disservice to Skye if I brought her into my house right now, and I can’t see very far into the future. If she gets a chance to be placed somewhere where they have the time and energy to give to her, let her go. Maybe my job is to take care of the old guys and make them comfortable and loved when they are sick. I can do that. We shall see what we shall see.
Love ya both,
Joyce
