I spoke with Nancy on June 20th. They are wanting to add another dog to their already two dog home. One is a 6.5-year-old Airedale, Angus, and one is a 6.5-year-old German Shephard, Wolfie. They both came to them on the same day and have grown up together. They have not been around too many other dogs, but their daughter had an Airedale that they would watch and they all got along well together. The GSD has gone through training due to him not getting along well with other people besides their family and friends. The trainer could not help and they advised them to keep him away from the public. Nancy works from home so she is home most of the time, and they have a 12 year old son. The dogs use their crates at night to sleep and the bedrooms are off limits to them, other than that they have free run of the home. The references did not call me back as of June 25th. They have two different vets for each dog. Angus is UTD on all shots and they use trifexis for HW and fleas and ticks. Wolfie’s vet told me he is past due for his rabies as of February 2024. He has had a HW test and it’s negative but there is no record of them buying their HW preventative from them.
There are two concerns for me here:
1. Their two dogs have been together for 6.5 years with no other dogs. Would a third dog upset the dynamics with how things are? Would it be safe for a new dog to enter in the home with a GSD that doesn’t get along with people?
2. Their Airedale is UTD on shots but the GSD is not.They seem like a very nice family and knowledgeable about Airedales and have a huge fenced in yard with a pool. IDK if a HV will want to be done to follow up on their application or a decline for now.
I spoke with Regina last week regarding her application and what a nice lady she is! She is 75, retired and very physically active. She walks three to five miles a day and when she gets a dog, they will be active together. She has lived in her home for over 40 years.
She does not have a fence in yard but her daughter and their family live close that has a fence and she is there at least once a week so the dog she has will go with her. She will include her dog wherever she goes. She has a good friend with a Golden Retriever that she is with frequently, also, so the dog she adopts will have to be dog friendly. She prefers a female but if the right dog comes along, she will be ok with.
Her grandkids are ages seven and ten, and they are small for their age, so the dog definitely has to love children as they want a dog as much as she does, if not more.
Regina’s has owned several Terriers, and her Airedale was her last dog, but it has been since 2007. She doesn’t have a vet reference at this time but understands the requirements for the health, annual shots, heartworm, and flea medications that the dog will require. She is also ok with having a crate and using a trainer for the right dog. I feel like she would be a great dog owner if the right Airedale comes along for her and her family.
I left her reference a message and I have not heard anything back from them yet, so once I do, I will update the MB. She is good to go for a home visit.I spoke with Janine on March 7th. She has recently just lost her female Airedale to cancer and is ready and able to adopt now. She is an experienced owner and has two Airedales and a few other breeds but no other dogs in the home now. She lives alone and is retired at 58 so she is very active and will include the dog in all her activities that she is able to do with the dog. She has lived in her home for 24 years and has a 6-foot wood fenced in back yard, and there is a park across the street from her home that she frequents, so the dog must be dog and people friendly. She has a friend with a Pomeranian that she visits regularly and will need to be sure the Airedale she adopts gets along with small dogs. She rarely travels but if she does, she would make sure she brought the dog or her dog groomer and friend (also one of her references) would watch her dog or she would use her vet’s office.
She has several dog beds and a couple crates that she has kept so having a dog that needs or desires a crate is okay with her, even though the dog will have free roam of the house one she is trained and familiar with everything. She does want to adopt a female.Her references gave her outstanding recommendations as being a good dog owner. They both have known Janine for over 20 years. The vet also gave me all the information needed. She has always done yearly exams with heartworm tests; all the shots required and uses NexGard for fleas and Sentinel Spectrum for heartworms. So that is an A+ for sure!
I spoke with Karen Cullers with Herb in the background on 2/1/24. A nice, experienced Airedale couple that have lived in their villa in TN for the last six years. Prior to that they lived on acreage where their dogs had lots of room to run. Their villa is not fenced in but in a quiet area where they have walked their dogs in the neighborhood and get togethers with some of their neighbors and their dogs for play dates. One of their references, Janet Backstrom and her Yorkie had a play date daily with the dogs. Janet gave Karen and Herb an outstanding recommendation for being pet owners.
They have had very large Airedales and now looking for a smaller male or female, they have no preference. They know the breed well and what to expect from and Airedale and are willing to train and do what it takes to make sure the dog is safe, healthy and loved. They have not used a crate for many years but not opposed to using one if the dog they adopt requires one. They allow dogs on their furniture but not on the bed when they are sleeping. (no room). LOL.
Karen walks a lot in their neighborhood and the dog will have lots of exercise several times daily. They are both retired so will be home all the time with the dog, except for the normal errands, dr visits, etc.…
They haven’t traveled much recently but if they decide to someday, the dog will go with them.Both references have known the Cullers for quite some time, and both have said they highly recommend adopting a dog. Their interaction and the way they raised their dogs have been good, they both told me.
From the vet, they have done the yearly exams, kept up with heartworm testing and flea medications. They have used heartgard and frontline. Their last dog didn’t have a heartworm test in May 2023, but their dog was ill at that time but still had some heartgard medication left until he passed in December of 2023. They can afford care of a dog at this time.
I think the right, smaller Airedale that is not a runner or that requires a fenced in yard would be perfect for them and depend only on walking the dog. They are ready for the next step and a HV.
I spoke with Lynn on Sunday 12/10/23. Her and her husband are extremely knowledgeable about the care and training of an Airedale. Lynn has worked in training dogs for a brief period and her last Airedale was a therapy dog. They are an active couple so the dog they adopt will get lots of exercise. They want a smaller Dale and no preference on male or female. But the dog would need to get along with their cat.
They live in a very private area with a long driveway and there is not a lot of public people that drive that area. They do not have a fence on their 47 acres or an invisible fence as what was stated in her application but all of their dogs are always leashed and with them and have been trained well. Lynn understands what is needed for a rescue dog having no fence, if they are approved for adopting. Her references praised them both highly on being dog parents and was very excited they are starting to look for another dog after losing their Airedale, Raleigh.
When checking with the vet, they have kept UTD on shots and heartworm tests and heartworm meds, they use the Pro Heart shot once a year. They did not show that they had got flea medication, though. But that could be they got it somewhere else as I did not ask Lynn where she specifically got it from.
I am confident they will be great adopters for the right Airedale that does not pose a flight risk and one that is easily trained. So, they are ready for a home visit next.I spoke with Wanda Parks on November 21st. Her and her husband have two homes they divide their time in between Ashe County NC and Fripp Island SC that is not fenced in on either property. They have a five-year-old Airedale now, Sophie. They have had one other Airedale previously and a few other dogs over the years. They are very active and have not had an issue with any of their dogs getting away and off the property. They walk a lot and the island they are at is only 6.5 sq miles and a barrier island. Hardly any outside people besides residents are there so it’s a good place for an off-leash dog, also. The NC home has 2 acres and a great area. They are always with their dog outside and have never had an issue but understand a new rescue will need training and being leashed while living with them. They are both retired and they rarely go anywhere besides the two homes but if needed a family member would watch the dogs. The only issue is placing a dog that is a runner or not used to having a fenced in yard. But they are aware of that and will take every precaution to make sure the dog is safe.
Sophie has a crate that she likes to go in but the door is always open. They have another crate when/if they can adopt another Airedale to use.
The vet’s office gave a fabulous reference about all their dogs, and Sophie is UPT and on HW and Flea/Tick meds regularly.
Their personal references gave outstanding recommendations for them to have another dog. They said they have treated their dogs wonderfully and are a main part of their family.I absolutely liked them and recommend to move forward with a HV. Not sure if we are able to do both places or do a Zoom on one, she is aware of that and can do it if necessary.
I spoke with Sherrie on July 16th and her husband was also in the background answering, also. This family has had four Airedales and are very experienced with them. Their last one passed away from cancer at 6 years old within the last year. They have a 5-year-old male Yorkie that loved the Airedale and seems lonely now without another dog in the home. They are a super active family, and everyone has helped in the care of their dogs. The kids really interacted with them, so they are very knowledgeable about the breed so placing a dog with them will be easy when one becomes available.
Sherrie works from home and home schools her kids; Tyler’s parents also live there so someone is home 24/7. When they do go on vacation, they take the dogs with them.
They understand the patience and training and would use a crate at first. They have left crates up before for their Dales and left the door open so they could go in and out as they please after training. Their dogs sleep in their beds and are allowed on furniture.
They have a beautiful artificial turfed back yard with a 6 foot vinyl fence. ( I always google the address of the applicant’s I call). They have a dog door that opens into the back yard also.References:
Vet has given me all the info and everything is perfect there, they definitely take care of their dogs from what they told me and utd on all shots, meds, etc……
Their two personal references have given outstanding recommendations for the Rosales’ and both told me they love their dogs and have been great dog owners.So, definitely a yes from me to proceed with a HV and locating a Dale for them. They want a male, as all their dogs have been male.
I forgot to add, they would be open to an older dog if it is the right fit for them and their 2 female dogs.
I spoke with Sharon Baker on Friday June 9th, her husband was also in the background while we were talking. She is so nice, easy to talk with, and both have knowledge of Airedales. She and her husband just built their house and have their back yard all fenced in already, 4-foot black chain link. She has a female Airedale and a female Terrier mix that she takes hiking, and they have a river by their house that they go to and there are lots of other dogs there they play with. She and her husband are both retired from the military and home now so adding a new Airedale to their pack would be a good fit for them for training and such since they are home and very active. They have no preference as to a male or female, just the best fit for their two girls now. They camp and take the dogs with them and the times they do go away, they have her brother that lives there that is a built-in dog sitter. How cool is that arrangement? They get together with their one reference, Bonnie, and her dog often and the dogs get along well. So, whoever is right for them has to get along with other dogs of all sizes.
They will use a crate to train and to introduce a new dog to their home as needed. They would consider a dog with minor health issues if its controlled by medication, but nothing more than that. They have the funds available to properly care for their dogs and to add another, they do have pet insurance on their girls now. Vet reference and personal reference gave the highest rating for the Baker’s. So, with all this said, the next step is to do a HV for them.I talked to both of the DiLorenzo’s and they are awesome. Jennifer has had Airedales before and knows the breed well. They have a mixed breed collie/terrier, Skylar, that is seven years old and two cats they adopted. The Airedale they adopt will definitely need to get along with the cats. That is one of the main things they spoke about. Jennifer works from home and her husband works out of the home three days a week so there is always someone there, along with their daughters. They are a very active family and spend time outdoors and with neighbors. Their next door neighbor has two dogs that play and run along the fence with Skylar, so the Airedale they adopt will need to get along with those dogs, also.
The vet reference was outstanding. Skylar is UTD on everything, along with the cats and they are aware of the vaccines, heartworm and flea meds that is needed. Both of their references had nothing but good things to say about them being pet parents and highly recommended them for adopting.
They are ready for a HV and to adopt as soon as the right dog comes along. I really liked them and everything they had to say and was very knowledgeable not only about Airedales, but how they take care of their animals and they are a huge part of their lives. So thumbs up from me for a dog.
Everything else in her application we talked about, so I wasn’t going to retype it all. LOL.
Bonnie has told me she has spoken with Christina and to hold off home visit til mid April to give them time to have a fence installed after submitting a request to their HOA and waiting for approval.
I did the phone interview with Caroline King on Monday, March 27th. They own a ten-year-old Airedale, Lucy, that they have had since a puppy. They lost their 14-year-old hound mix last fall and is looking to get another companion for the family and for Lucy. In talking to her, Lucy is pretty independent and not a big snuggler. They are looking to adopt one that likes to be loved on and give affection, as their younger son loved on their hound. She possibly would like a male, but it also depends on who Lucy gets along with. Their neighborhood is at the end of a cul de sac and their neighbors are all friendly and get together often, and sometimes with the dogs. They have a fenced in back yard with no escape areas for the dogs with the bottom of the fence having chicken wire to prevent digging out. They do a lot of activities outside and want another to join in with the fun. They would like one between one and five years old. Being they have younger children; it would need to be a dog that is somewhat gentle around them til they get older.
Caroline works from home a couple days a week and her husband Matthew works during the week but is fairly close to the house. The three days they are both gone for up to 9 hours is Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Their references have seen their dogs before and Sarah is 3 miles down the street and could possibly help out. They gave excellent references for the Kings being wonderful dog parents. The vet, Leesville Animal Hospital, also has given a stand up reference for the King’s. Lucy is UPT on all her vaccines and heartworm and flea meds.
If they should go out of town, their parents have watched the dogs in the past if they don’t take them along and they also have dogs that Lucy gets along with. The kids don’t know they are looking to adopt an Airedale yet, as they want it to be the right dog that comes along for them. They were interested in Boone, possibly. I really liked them and she was very knowledgeable about Airedales and their antics. She had written a paper when she was in school years ago about Airedales and always wanted one. She finally got Lucy and now wants an additional one. They are ready for a home visit and I really liked them, so it’s a Okie Dokie for this family to move forward in their process.I spoke with Stefani on Sunday March 19th. She lives alone but has her father Newman, stays with her half of the year. She has a seven-year-old smaller dog, Shih Tzu/poodle mix named Biggie Smalls. He needs proper introductions to other dogs and over time will get along with others he has been with. He is UTD on all his shots, heartworm, and flea meds. She uses three different vets depending on pricing. I spoke with all of them, and they had all told me she has been in and she takes good care of her dogs.
She has a grooming table and clippers and has groomed her own dogs but will also use a professional groomer if necessary.
She works from home some and other times she will be gone approximately 4 to 5 hours. Her reference, Jamie, has helped with her dogs if needed and Stefani has watched her dogs as well. They have been friends for over ten years.
She has a six foot wooden fenced in back yard with no areas open for a dog to escape. She walks her dog two to three times a day in between backyard time, as well, every day. Also she does the park to get him out somewhere different on weekends. So an Airedale would get plenty of exercise with her. She prefers a female. I like her, what the vet’s offices had said and her reference and think she would be a good match for the right Airedale.I spoke with Justin on Sunday February 26th. His wife was out but I gathered all the information that was needed from him. They live on a quiet cul de sac with a very close neighborhood of kids and dogs. Their back yard is large and fenced with a 4 5 foot wood fence on the sides and a 4 foot chain link fence in the back. They have a four year old Boston Terrier, George, that is very friendly with other dogs as they get together often with neighbors that have dogs, also. The one reference I talked with, Kristin, has dogs and they get their dogs together and also she has helped with their dog’s if needed. Kristin had nothing but great things to say about this family.
They have two kids 10 and 14 that are very active and help take care of the dog they have now but really want a bigger dog to be able to do more activities with. The Boston gets tired out quickly. Lol.
They work outside the home and at home and their schedules are opposite most of the time so a new dog would have plenty of time with someone home but is fine with having to crate a dog if needed if they are not home. They also have great neighbors and they help each other out with the dogs, if needed.
Their dog of 16 ½ years had recently passed. They adopted and brought him home from the Caico’s Islands on their honeymoon 15 years ago. The vet told me they took the best of care of him and went over and above. George is utd on everything so the vet check was outstanding.
They were really interested in Suey, but they would wait for the right one, if he wasn’t available. They are definitely ready to adopt and a home visit is ready to be done. I really liked everything about them.
