Home visit for:
Beth Bruner and John Powell
1834 York St S
Gulfport, Florida 33707

Zplanner@ w.comThe home is fairly small… 1 bedroom and 1.5 bath. It has a small galley kitchen behind the living room. The bedroom is off the living room and there is a large plastic crate in the room. It looks like crate that is used by the airlines. The door is off the crate and it is used for the dog’s safe space. If needed, the door can be put back on. The home has 2 additional rooms….mainly an enclosed “Florida room” and a laundry room. The entire house has hard wood floors and the decor is dated but comfortable. The house neat and clean. I would estimate the size of the house to be approximately 1000 square feet. It is in a suburban neighborhood of a beach town but about 2 miles away from the water. There is a nice back porch attached to the home . The entire front and back yard is totally fenced in. There are different fences for different areas. There is a chin link fences that is about 5 feet high a wooden fence that is about 8 feet high. The fences are all intact and appear to be secure. A baby gate is at the front door for the times Beth and John leave the door open. The dog has full run of the home and can go on the furniture. I did ask how she would feel if the dog had an accident in the home and what she would do. She said “I’d clean it up.”
There are children who visit the home at about 4 times a week. They range in age from 2-15.
John and Beth have been married for 54 years. They appear to be very closely bonded. John has been fighting liver cancer for the past 5 years. He will be going into home hospice soon. They very recently lost their Airedale Gracie , who was “the perfect dog.” Beth cried when telling me about Gracie and said they have never been without a dog in 54 years. I asked her how she could cope with a new rescue dog in the house with John going into hospice. She said he would be a big help…not physically but he is a “very smart behaviorist “ and he will help train and get the dog settled. They also have a home in California on 40 acres. They go there every year and drive so the dog comes with them. When John passes away Beth probably will not be making that trip any more. I do not think his passing is imminent. He looked good and not frail.
My gut feelings…. I like Beth a lot. She is a very strong and capable woman who is faced with an uncertain amount of time left to share with her husband. She and John are heartbroken and devastated over the lose of Grace. Placing a dog in this home would be a double rescue….. one for the dog and one for Beth. Beth has the capability, commitment, love , support of family and finances to give a dog an amazing life. At 74 years of age, a puppy would not be advisable. Also, she only wants female. I hope Beth and John get the right dog to once again fill their hearts with love .

February 18, 2026 at 8:13 pm in reply to: 2026-11 Anne and Jack Hudson, Georgetown SC, good fence, ADT exp, 1 cat, 5-8 yr old, minimal time alone #34907I talked with them for quite awhile and they are a great older couple that is very active. You would never know they are 80! Have have many Airedales, but their last dog passed a few years ago, not an Airedale. they have a cat, but she is feral so she is in and out of the house, mostly outside, but when talking to their vet, she is spayed and gets all her vaccines. They have a fenced in yard, but like to get out and walk. They also watch their neighbor’s dog a lot, she is a 15 lb. mixed breed and the neighbor also has 2 young sons, 4 and 6 so if they adopt an Airedale, they want a female, she will need to be good with cats, small dogs, and young kids.
Linley, their one reference is the one that has the dog and kids. She had nothing but great things to say about Anne and Jack and knows that they are able to take care of an older dog.
Vet reference showed that the cat has updated and current vaccines and they got her spayed that was feral prior. Their previous dog they had brought there was also UTD on shots and HW tests and they used Trifexis for preventative. Was waiting for the other reference to call, but I am ok to say they are good to go for a HV now.

GailJanuary 21, 2026 at 9:05 pm in reply to: 2025 Julie Jones, Sylva NC, NO ADT exp, good fence, no pets, prefer pupp-1yr #34675I talked with Julie today for awhile and she thinks that an Airedale is the right dog for them. They do have a cat, though. I explained to her that we rarely get pups under 1 year old, so they would be open to a 2 or 3 year old. They have a large fenced in yard and also she has her own retail business so she would take the dog to work, also. They have a farm with acres so they would also take the dog around the property and introduce slowly to their animals via leash.
The one thing that I am holding back on for a Home Visit is when I called the vet, they had no records of heartworm preventative and last time they were there was 2023. I called Julie back and asked if she could get the records from a previous vet she said she had used. She said she had a prescription she was using, but I find that hard to believe it was still active from 2023, so I am waiting to hear back from her for proof of preventatives.
