Subject: Re: VetI am happy to report that Maggie is healthy and happy. They had a dog in isolation so they were unable to let us come in the back. Needless to say I was nervous to begin with but I was really nervous when they told me that. But, and maybe Maggie could sense I was nervous and she just calmed right down. I made her sit in between each door and we sat in the far back of the lobby. I put her in the down stay position and she just sat there the whole time. When they called us in we walked by a German Shepard, a small dotson, and a Husky and she didnt even pay them no mind. I was very proud of her, she is just progressing so fast shes surprising me. Maggie weighed 70 pounds and we got her heartworm meds and ear cleaner. Hope you all have a great long weekend and a happy Memorial Day you all deserve it. Cindy we’ll talk tomorrow at 4.

This is a good plan. This could also be a good opportunity to practice with the transitional leash and getting her to sit and wait at the back door.
Are still on for the call Saturday. We could talk about how you determine whether she is actually relaxed vs. just in a sit position with the leash.

Im gonna ask them to let me bring her through the back door and just wait in the truck until theyre ready. Maggie is doing great but this will be overload I think, so just being precautious. We enrolled her into a Well Being Health Insurance plan that provides basic well being care and dental.

May 24, 2018 at 2:29 pm in reply to: Private: Maggie, 4-1/2 yo Airedale, Florence, SC with Cindy Green #1941905/20/18: Maggie was adopted by Nathaniel & Emily Williamson of Culloden, WV, referred by Cathy Biersack.
05/24/18: Maggie is adjusting well and is happy and playing!
05/23/18: JMC met River and owners and Tracey & Rob Haynes at Audubon Park on 05/22/18. Tracey & Rob brought Cooper, their Aire-Doodle, about 90 lbs. River is a petite Aire-girl. If I didn’t know that she came from Lawrence Alexander, a well-known and -respected Airedale breeder, I would think she’s a large Welsh. She’s about 40 lbs.
She and Cooper got along fine, with both wanting to play. They walked well together. Cooper tried to mount her a couple of times. River went home with Rob & Tracey for them to make a decision. I believe they were very hesitant because of her age – 6 – when they wanted one much younger, but they have the option of not keeping her.
I don’t think we’ll have any problem placing her if they decide against her.

I emailed you back in December looking for a behaviorist. We recently had to give our dog Olivia back to adoptagoldenatlanta b/c her aggression toward me was not getting any better despite medicine and expert advice.
Later this summer we will want to rescue a new dog. I filled out an application in October for an Airedale. I hope it is still current.
If an Airedale comes available, you are welcome to contact me. We are looking for a dog that is a young adult (1-4 years old) and housebroken. My wife and I have a 7 year old daughter who loves dogs and treats them well.
Thanks,

05/16/18 From Molly:
Pushed a Judah button this afternoon. He was in the crate. I picked up a large (12”x12”?) object from the bookcase next to the crate. He would have attacked me if he could have.
It happened so suddenly. It didn’t scare me since I knew he was in the crate. I’m not sure if I startled him or if my picking up a large object triggered him.
He needs more exercise.
Molly
Bay responded and suggested a dog walker.
JMC responded and said we have to find a trainer.-

Subject: Lost Dog from Atlanta – re JudahThis is Soldier the dog lost in Atlanta whose owner thinks could be Judah. I do not think it is him at all. She did go to our web site and knows this dog was picked up in AL but she is certain that he was abducted when he went into her neighbor’s yard after a tree fell on their common fence and he got out of her gate. It had snowed that day, Jan. 17th, and there were car tire tracks leading up to the gate and his tracks to the car. So, maybe he was abducted. Still – the photos she sent me of him are above – best she has. She sent a fax of the abduction notice she posted in her neighborhood and she said she contacted every vet’s office and every shelter in the Atlanta/Cobb Co./Cherokee Co. She said her daughter posted on their Nextdoor Neighborhood page and I’ve asked for her daughter to send me the photos she used for that, but so far nothing.
I asked about her dog’s ear set because in the photos she sent, he’s got fly-away ears and Judah has great ears. Judah appears to have a bit of white on his chest, Soldier does not. Judah lifts his paw to shake hands, Soldier does not.
I plan to talk to her again today and tell her this is not the same dog. But, if she insists on meeting him, I’ll have to depend on you, Bay, to set that up with Molly. As far as I’m concerned, the woman can drive to Nashville. We will not ask Molly to drive to her or meet her in the middle. I’ve told the woman we have $644 in medical charges on him (some of that was for boarding ?), but I also told her if he is her dog, we want her to have him.
I’ll let you know what happens today, but wanted you to have all this info readily available.
January 17th – He was stolen. Tracks in the snow. He was in her neighbor’s yard. She let him out at 11:30 a.m. Soldier went into her yard. Then in a minute Soldier was gone. Karen’s gate was open and she heard him bark and she went out and he was gone. Checked shelters in Cobb and Cherokee.
Shaggy bc it was January.

Subject: Re: Pictures of SoldierHi, Britt. Thanks for sending those. Soldier is a beautiful dog. But, I feel certain that Judah is not Soldier. I’m enclosing a video and a couple of other photos. 1-Judah has white on his chest; 2-he automatically raises his paw (either one) each time he sits; 3-his ears do not skew to the outside like Soldier’s. He has great ear-set; 4-he’s much leaner than Soldier looks in the photo where he’s standing up on his hind legs with the young woman; and 5-he does not respond to the name Soldier.
Judah is a very anxious dog who barks and whines a lot. He has attacked the foster mom’s senior Airedale female over a toy when they were playing outside, so he’s pretty aggressive toward other dogs.
I understand your mother’s anguish; it is a very sad situation. I wish we could help. If she would like to apply to adopt, we would welcome her.
I am leaving town in the morning for a short vacation and not returning until Monday night. If you or your mother have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact Cyn Mobley or Barbara Yager, both of whom are copied above.
Thank you.

05/12/18:
Hi, Scott. That was not a judgment, just a statement. You did tell us she has a severe heart murmur but is not on medicine for it, but Vetmedin is used for murmurs and for serious conditions such as congestive heart failure. She has ear infections, which we didn’t know. Thank you for sending the medication for that. Skin issues are common in Airedales, but we didn’t know about the large black patches on her. She also seems to have a urinary tract infection noted by Sue. Sue’s assessment was that she was in pain walking and getting up from lying down, so she called her vet and he ok’d giving her Tramadol. Sue’s vet is going to see her tomorrow and do a full check up. Her teeth are pretty bad but at her age and with a heart issue – murmur or CHF – anesthesia is a serious risk, as it would be with trying to remove the growths. We very much appreciate that you had her brought up to date and had her heart worm test performed. We knew, of course, that we were getting an elderly dog who had some health issues; I did not think you were dumping an unhealthy dog on us. Yes, you and Chrissy have obviously done right to get her to this age. No doubt.I am very happy that we have someone who wants her and will care for her for however long Darcie lives. She’s getting along great with Sue’s other dog. So all is well.
I’ll be happy to keep you updated as we go.

wrote: Jackie,
I saw your post about Darcie and you saying she was not healthy, and that was upsetting. Darcie is healthy for her age. Our vet is very conservative and we have been using him for 7 years. He has not been concerned with the growths that Sue seemed worried about. When they appeared a couple of years ago we felt the risk of having her put to sleep to remove them was worse than her having them. She also mentioned her teeth being cleaned, vet has not mentioned needing a cleaning until this last visit, again not sure at her age and heart condition that I would feel safe putting her to sleep for a teeth cleaning. Her heart murmur is bad (5 out of 6) and has been that way for the last 10 years. I feel we have done something right with her for her to have lived as long as she has. I really feel she has several good years to live. If you all feel we are trying to unload a unhealthy dog on someone I will be more than happy to go back and get her. She is a very happy dog and comes from a family that loves her very much.
ScottFrom Molly
He is such a sweet boy. He just hasn’t learned acceptable behavior. But he didn’t hurt Po so maybe he would have let her go if I hadn’t overreacted. He has all the Airedale power and tenacity and should have been taught manners when he was young. He does need someone knowledgeable enough to teach him now that he has a big boy body.05/12/18: Spoke to Lance today re what he thought about Karen and her training advice:
Going through clicker training and establishing rapport. She’s a very smart dog. She’s responding well. She still hasn’t warmed up to Afton but she’s not growling issues. They changed. She was eating privately but in a little space in the bathroom but moved it to a different place that more enclosed. She likes that. She is more comfortable because in the other room she would eat till it was gone then leave. Or she’d rush out and come find him and lick and then go back. She eats a little and then lie around and half an hour later she’ll eat more. Also when Afton walks up to her and pet her and he gets close, if she changes her body position maybe lying on one side or turn away, he’s accepting that as an acceptable way to communicate that she doesn’t want him near or that close. He steps in to make her feel better, he invites her to go to the bedroom or get some distance. Low level rewarding for not growling but to move herself. He found that Karen sent an email in his spam folder to do another visit. They want to walk. Used to walk with a purpose and his German manner had to have dog at his leg. Let her meander, walk more slowly so she doesn’t feel like she’s stalking. He is using the transitional and also uses another one that he made. The end of it is carabineer and a knot to tie and slide the leash and can wear it around his waist.
He plans to schedule another visit from Karen, but he’s out of town this coming week. I told him we’d pay for the next visit and evaluate from there.
05/12/18: Tracey & Rob have applied for a SOAR dog, either Della or Denise, a bonded pair. They don’t want both. I gave them a good review with Brad Ruth of SOAR.
