10/06/18: Called Lana Byrd and left VM.
10/08/18: Talked to Lana. She sounds pretty good. We talked about her relinquishing Captain & Chico. I did not tell her that they were put down. I told her that I thought Christina kept in touch with their families.
I’ll fill in my notes later.
Need home visit in Decatur, AL.

10/06/18: They posted on Rosie’s post on FB that they wish they could be a “more than one female household,” and to let them know if they can help. This would be great!

Hi, I am waiting to hear back from the vet.

We tried rescue Remedy with no relief. We also tried 2 other pharmaceuticals that did not work. The Trazadone has been the best by far.

She does not have separation anxiety but is afraid of thunder and fireworks.

We walk her several miles per day and let her off her leash in the dog park several times a day as well. Prior to moving into the RV, she had free run of the back yard.

You are no bother. I want her to be placed in the best home we can find for her and they need all the information.

Hi, Erin. As I talk to people about Livi, other questions come to mind. Before the Trazadone, did you try any other meds or herbal supplements or anything like Rescue Remedy for her anxiety? I think you told me she does NOT have separation anxiety, is that right? How much exercise is she getting daily? Is she thunder-phobic or react badly to fireworks or gunshots?

(BTW, did you ask your vet to send us her records? We’ve not gotten anything yet.)

Sorry to keep bothering you with all these questions, but it all helps.

Hi, Erin. Thanks for the clarification. To me, each of those bites were provoked and understandable. We would, of course, warn any potential adopter that she has reacted this way so that they can be on guard for triggers. I hope we can find her a home quickly.

I apologize, I thought that I mentioned that she did bite these two.

The first time was maybe 2 years ago. A friend of ours came to our house and opened the side door to the house unannounced. Livi was barking and lunging over a gate that we had by the door and bit her in the process.

The second time was about a month ago when we moved into the RV Park. The neighbors dog is never on a leash (although its the rule) and Livi was getting aggressive with the dog. The woman came at Livi was a cane to break it up. A few days later, we were walking Livi and again the dog came running out, the lady was close by and she lunged at the lady while barking a bit her side. We have since moved sites because we weren’t having that stress for Livi or us.

Neither bite broke the skin, required medical attention or was reported to the authorities. Livi was quickly redirected and brought under control. She has never tried to bite us or has ever been aggressive with us. She is a sweet girl although troubled at times.

Livi has been on the Trazadone for 5 months and we have seen no side effects. She is less anxious but not cured by any means.

I know that you need to have all of the information to find her a new home. We are heartbroken but just do not know how we can help her. I am sorry for her and that we can’t be her forever home. That really was our intention when we got her.

Hi, Erin. Thank you for the photos. She is a beautiful girl! We also got your Release form and I need clarification on the biting incidents. You told me she had tried to bite a couple of times and doesn’t like blonde women. Please describe each incident. Was she on leash? Were you with her? Did either of the bites break the skin? Did either of the bites require medical attention? Were either of the incidents reported to the authorities? Was each incident only one bite? How did you break up or stop Livi in each instance? Does she redirect and try to bite you when you break it up?

How long has she been on the Trazadone? Has she had any side effects from the Trazadone, such as vomiting or diarrhea?

All of these questions help us understand her better and will help us as we talk to people about her. Thank you, Erin, for trusting us to find a suitable home for Livi.

10/03/18: Called William Grewe, told him we might have an Airedale for them.

Trudy called back and I told her about Rosie/Maggie and a little about Livi. I then sent them long emails about each dog along with photos.

William wrote back that they do not want Livi; they want one that gets along with everyone and does not nip. They think Rosie may be too young for them but they need to think about it and asked for more time to consider her.

They applied in 2013 and were interviewed by me, then BL was involved, then you were involved in setting home visit by JoAnne Case. She did home visit and they were approved. Last communication was Aug. 2014 you offered them Ruby via email but I guess they didn’t respond.

I’ll contact them and let them know they are approved and see if they’re interested in our girl in So. AL.

Will you contact Mark Howitz or do you want me to?

                            Hi William and Trudy,

Thank you for submitting an adoption for a SOAR rescue Airedale. Was there a specific dog you were interested in? Also, have you contacted your local Georgia Airedale rescue organization? They can assist you in the approval process and make you aware of any dogs they may have available. I have copied their state coordinator on this email. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Again, thank you for your application and good luck with your search.

10/02/18: Erin Johnson emailed and said they must surrender Livi. They have moved into an RV so they can travel all over. They are stationary right now and they will put Livi out on a tie-out but she hates that and they even have an e fence but she doesn’t respect it and just runs and they spend hours trying to find her. They’re afraid she is going to get HBC or hurt some other way and they can’t keep her safe. Even when they were living in their house, she would bolt out the front door and they would have to chase her down and spend hours looking for her.

She’s an anxious dog – has been since they got her – and they now have her on Trazadone 50 mg 1x/day and that helps. She lunges and barks at people who approach them or their property and would try to bite them. She is good with the children, ages 5 and 7, but too rambunctious for others.

She’ll be 6 in Feb. She’s in good health. They’ll send Release Form and photos and med records.
