10/18/18: Asked the Edgertons to do HV.

Eric Edgerton said he would do the HV.

However, I realized that Ed Bott didn’t give us a vet’s name so I’ve emailed and asked him for that and a reference. HV on hold.

                Hello Jackie,

                Hi Jackie,

I am ready to start looking for another Airedale. My mother in law is doing much better. My border collie is also doing well, but sleeps most of the time because of his age. I would prefer a male, one who is social, but not overly active. I realize it may take awhile, but I am prepared to wait for the right dog.

                Thanks,
                Jackie

10/17/18: Hudson has been ill for weeks. Initially, he had some lameness which their vet diagnosed as being caused by walking on hardwood floors; said it was a lameness caused by affluence! So he went for 5-6 treatments on a treadmill. It did nothing. Then he started not eating and had other symptoms and he has now – this week – been diagnosed as having multiple myeloma. He will need chemo the rest of his life – a protocol of Prednisone and Melphalan. See http://www.vcchope.com/resource-center/multiple-myeloma-dogs

10/11/18: Talked to Ed. He’s a funny guy, hard to stay focused. Ed lives alone in an apartment and works nights 4 days a week in maintenance/security. So he’d be home during the day with his Airedale but asleep a lot of that time, then the ‘dale would be alone at night.

He’s moving to Asheville area, Yadkinville – hopefully in the next 6 months. Has a job already lined up that includes an apartment.

He is also looking at having a knee replaced. Went in August and you have to take a breathing test. he has a low-grade infection and then he rescheduled for the week of Florence. Dr is back and he is to go back soon. Probably will not have the knee operation until December. Get the neighbor home and in rehab. But once he has the knee replacement, he will be off for recuperation for 12 weeks! Right now it is painful to walk on concrete but he does it every night.

I have reservations about this man. He did not list a veterinarian and I forgot to ask for one. My inclination is to hold off until it’s closer to his knee surgery, so that we can possibly place an Airedale with him when he has recuperated a few weeks at least.

But I will get a home visit if possible.

10/07/18: Hi, Nancy. Yes, we do still have your application. I’m so sorry you lost your Fairfax, but he lived a long life and was obviously much loved by you and Phillip. One of our volunteers will be in touch within the next week to talk to you and update our information. Thank you for contacting us and we appreciate your interest in adopting a rescued Airedale.

10/12/18: JMC spoke to Carrie at Rosie’s (Maggie’s) vet’s kennel. They are full because of Hurricane Michael evacuees’ pets. Maggie is doing fine and loves everyone and wants to be petted and in your face, but she is developing cage aggression and needs to be out ASAP!

I also have Molly’s most recent veterinary invoice from Vetfield Clinic in Sunshine, FL. I have spoken to them and they are not the ones who implanted her chip, but when Mr. Finnis became a client with their clinic, according to their records, he told them she was already microchipped .

Please let me know what else you may need from me to complete the transfer and what the fee is. Thank you for your assistance.

10/11/18: From conversation with Jennifer Calvert:
What can you tell me about her original owner. Had she been with them since puppyhood? She was born in Miami and her owner passed away. A man had her. A friend decided to take her and had her 2 weeks and realized they couldn’t keep her and she’s noisy and liked to play. Posted her on Nextdoor. Met her and fell in love. Family brought to Kennesaw.

Chews everything, Tell her to drop it, she will. Kids’ toys she thinks are hers. Runs loose, Runs loose? You mean when she gets out or is she good off-leash? She gets out if they forget to close the door. Runs to car because she loves to go for rides. She stays in the house most of the time. If the other dog is outside she’ll go out.

Their Mini-Schnauzer/Terrier ix is about 25 lbs. The people who kept her for 2 weeks had a golden retriever and mix-schnauzer. They all got along great. She’s more gentle with the smaller dogs. She’s very good at being gentle.

She doesn’t jump on the child. She jumps on Jennifer. Very excited to see mom. New people she’s fine. She’s great at the groomers. They haven’t been to dog park.

What kind of leash/collar? Harness that she doesn’t love but used a leash and collar. Rabies tag. Name tag.

Describe a typical day for Molly. Does she greet other dogs while on leash? Has she ever been to doggy day-care? How does she react when people knock on your door/ring your doorbell? Does she jump on small children?
A typical week day; they leave early for work. At first, she was loose with the other dog. She chewed up the couch. Already chewed on. Put bitter spray on it. Anxiety from being gone, new noises. They started crating her and she’s great in the crate. Sleeps in the crate. Doesn’t cry or whine unless they’re home and haven’t let her out. How long alone 8 hrs.

Time frame – realtor. Pack your house and get ready to move.

No heart worm meds since they’ve had her. Asked Jennifer to take her to vet and have her tested for HW.

Does she have a chip? Ask to scan for microchip.
