Hi Barbara,
Just spoke to Nicole at their vets office and she said that they are very good pet owners and their pets were always up to date on everything.
Hope you are staying warm. We are even freezing down here in NC!

Well good evening Barbara,
I hope you and yours are keeping warm in this winter blast. It’s chilly here, but nothing like what you experience, I’m sure.
I did meet with Jessica and Chris today concerning Airedale adoption. A nice family with two fairly active children. Do note, “fairly active children.” Nothing bad implied there at all as they were normal 2 and 4 year olds. There was a moment when said two year old was going after kitty attempting to get her tail [parents were on top of that] but mom did share how at age 2, the older of the two children did feed a corn cob to their poodle! As I said, normal 2 and 4 year old stuff. I would just make sure they find an Aire that is absolutely good with children, other dogs and cats:O)
They use the same vetrinarian I have used for over 20 years and they too have used his services for a long time. They use a groomer I know well [who owns their own grooming/pet care store] and feed a qaulity food. I did tell them that the $500 p/yr estimate for care may be low. In stopping at the groomer’s store to check out the food they currently use [Acana or Accana] it is even pricier than what I use-and we both know an Airedale will eat more than a small poodle. Oh yes, make sure their match doesn’t mind smaller dogs..and again, cats.
They have a privacy fenced in back yard with a gate that is secure. When asked if I thought their back yard was big enough to support an Aire, I said yes, but did stress the need to walk as well. I pointed out that at first, whenever an adoption takes place, to watch at feeding time. Their present dog may not be food agressive, but may be when another dog enters the scene…or vice versa. I reminded them this could take time, but to allow the fosters to evaluate well and match them up with a four footed family member well so all would be happy. They are perfectly happy to wait patiently until that match comes along.
Chris asked a question beginning with “since we are rescuing a dog….” to which I explained, the rescue isn’t necessarily a situation where people are going in and getting these dogs out of horrid situations [although we know that could happen sometimes], but intead, these are animals for the most part that owners cannot keep for one reason or another [ie…a death, more to handle than they expected, etc…]in other words, the dogs come into the rescue, stay with fosters that greatly assist in evaluating and assessing behavior and you adopt. I didn’t want him thinking it was a Michael Vick sort of situation.
I know they went through Pet Smart training with their poodle and they also have some private trainers names as well. I gave them my trainer’s name too. I also told them if they had other questions to feel free to call me as I’m only four miles away. Shoot, I’m leaving my job this Thursday [yippee!] so I’d be available to help them train too….hmmm, I need to tell them that!!!
Oh yes, at first, when away for shopping, etc, the new dog would be crated and the crate is kept in the adult’s bedroom. The poodle sleeps in her crate with the door open and I’m sure that’s how it would be for the new dog in time as well. I noted that they mentioned getting a young dog and explained you don’t often encounter very young pups. I believe Oliver was the youngest [at the time] I’d seen on the site. Though it could happen that one come in, I also asked them to think of an older dog…maybe one that did come from a family with children…just in the event. I also told them with and older dog [usu. over 8 or 9 years old] the adoption fee was lower. I just didn’t want them to think there would be an abundance of young puppies coming in. I did reiterate that should something happen or come up, they do agree to surrender the dog back to ARG and they fully understood this.
Jessica is a stay at home mom so there would be someone home during the day. If they took a vacation or such, they have several family members that live nearby that would take the dog and care for it [as they have done with their other in the past].
This was a nice young couple, very calm and patient in their interaction with their children and two pets. I feel good about them. They have done their research and owned Cairn Terriers in the past and like the Terrier “attitude.” That to me is a plus! They will be good Aire-parents.
Let me know if I’ve left anything out!!!
By the way, did I tell you I’m now a grandma???? Thrilled with our little man; Colton-Lee Emmett Wright. Born 11.22.13,
8 pounds and 3 oz, 21 inches. Oh my goodness, I could just kiss his cheeks off his little face!!!
God bless and Merry Christmas!
Trina
Good phone conversation.
Airedale understanding.
Really want a young one, so may be difficult to match. They had Roxy since puppy, so the children have known all their lives.
Family members all have dogs.
Generally very likeable.
Will ask Julie Slenker to HV, as Molly Lance, who is closer, appears to be missing.

I just spoke to Laura at the Southpoint Animal Hospital and was told that their Wheaten, George, just had his senior blood work done in October as well as having a dental cleaning and is up to date on everything. I think the Wheaten and Airedale combination works out very well, although I might be a tad prejudiced in that area!

Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued Airedale. My condolences on the recent loss of Roxy. I know all too well how difficult that it. Her spirit will still be around looking after the kids, and you may sense her presence at times.
We are always especially happy to hear from airedale-experienced families.
I am glad you are very clear that the best match must include children-friendly, or at the very least child-tolerant. Some are, some are not; I suppose that is true of any dog.
Please let me know some good times to call you. I am retired and can be available most any time at your convenience.
Weekday afternoons after 2:00 are best for me, but not required.
Hi Barbara,
Just touching base. I spent part of the morning in the ER with the husband [vertigo…he will be okay]. I spoke with Jessica and due to timing and busyness we will conduct the home visit next weekend. Hope your Thanksgiving holiday has been grand.
Sincerely,
Trina

would be the likely person to be contacting her to
arrange.
November 26, 2013 at 8:12 pm in reply to: Private: Michele St. Ores – 9/2020 in Cookeville (was Murfreesboro) #13810Great conversation w/ Michele. She was home ill. And she could barely speak at first. I told her I would call back in a few days, but we ended up speaking for a half hour or so. I would say I would let her go and she would say “let me just ask one more thing. Do I need to send you money to reserve a puppy?” I said oh no, and proceeded to explain more fully that we are not breeders and do not sell dogs, and so on. She understood that, but wanted to ask.
She is a graduate student and told her advisor she was ill and could not come in for a regular meeting. He/she was not sympathetic.
Her parents told her to get some Wild Turkey and make a concoction of that and honey and lemon juice, wrap herself up very securely and and try to sleep. So she was going to go out and get some booze.
Anyway, I liked her a lot. Was honest about her previous animals. Very detailed stories on her application. I wanted to cause bodily harm to her ex-husband.
Would appreciate a home visit suggestion.
Barbara, their vet clinic gave the Flowers a glowing report on what wonderful owners they were and that Roxy was very loved and well cared for….up to date on everything and was groomed faithfully…

no fights, no deaths, no injuries.
they aren’t buddies but tolerate each other. she doesn’t know how to
play it seems – – no idea or no interest in toys or play time but she
has shown signs of frivolity once or twice. in work.
the eating disorder is the big problem, which we handle by pitching
food outside and she can forage rather than gavage. . .which she does
if given a chance. not a solution but more a treatment til we figure
out what to do.
cat is regrettably still alive. mostly she leaves him alone, sometimes
showing an interest but no harm.
likes to shit right off the back porch. in work.
has shown an interest in treerats – – if we can kill a couple of them
and she responds favorably. . . .well . . .she might just have a
home . . . .its hard to say who gets more pleasure– me when I
waterboard them, or an ADT when they rip them to bits. either is
quite rewarding.
she is super friendly, very docile toward me, friendly with the
neighbors. lets me do anything — pick her up, remove the food bowl,
flop her down on the ground (like when looking for ticks or . . . )
cleaning teeth!! she’s not big on teeth cleanery at all, but tolerated
it. I think she’s never had a toothbrush before, as she acted
frightened of it. but put up with it very well. not a huge fan of
gentle leader but again does fine when underway.
I lost the matriarch aunt of the family last night so will likely have
them up to savannah for a few days while at the funeral in houston.
so will see how that goes.
friendly, very affiliative, low maintenance, well mannered, doesn’t
jump up, doesn’t jump on furniture (working on that. . .we have 2
airedale couches so she’s learning). . . berk is hard at it, teaching
her his bad habits. tooth display and some growl when he walks by, so
we are working on that also.
and she barks!! came home late one night, and they were in the yard
by the fence, barking at me- – – otherwise, nary a peep out of her.
more to come

Good Morning,
I have emailed the Reynolds requesting to move up the date to Tuesday, Nov. 19 To make the exchange. I found a Red Lobster right off I-20 Exit 199 Washington Road outside of Augusta. I am hoping they can drive to there as that will save us two hours driving time there and back. If I do not hear back from them, I will call them this evening to confirm plans. We are soooo excited.
We feel really good about this match up, kind of like going back to Harley days!! LOL !!!
