Jackie will take per BL’s request.
Sam Giltner:
They brought in a new Dalmation puppy on 1/28/12 for it’s first set of shots and deworming. As for other pets they seemed to keep up to date with the shots but they had no record of buying any heartworm medication for any of their previous pets.
Above from Sue Taylor when she called for vet check. I had no response from intro email, so will move them to moved on.

Hi Rob,
Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued airedale.
I gather you are not that familiar with the breed, other than research you have done. I don’t know what that entailed; I’ll just say what you read on the internet is not necessarily accurate or complete. Have you met an airedale? Talked to airedale owners?
I’d be glad to share some unvarnished insights into this wonderful although challenging breed to help you decide if it is a good fit for you and your family.
BTW, I have a soft spot for black labs; we had one for 12 years and he helped train a number of foster dales that came through our home.
So some questions and concerns we can go over when we speak:
*You indicate your preference is for a male under a year old. We very rarely get true puppies into rescue, or others that young. Average age is probably 2-4 years, and of course some seniors. But there aare always exceptions, as you might guess.
*I want to caution you on the fact you have a buried wire e-fence. Very few airedales can be trained to respect one. Their pain threshold is so high, they will go right through it if they see an interesting critter like a rabbit or a squirrel. So he could never be left outside unattended.
*Are your daughters on board with adopting a dog? Will they participate in the care and training? When do they get home from school?
*Re your work hours, are you a school teacher or an administrator of some kind? 8 hours a day alone is a long time for an airedale, especially a young one. They get bored and can get inadvertently destructive. Might there be an arrangement for someone to come over and give him a break midday?
In any event, we can talk about all this when we speak. Just some food for thought.
Please let me know a convenient time to call you. I am best available most weekday afternoons after 2:00, early evenings, and most times on the weekends.

1/6. Good clients. Come in every year for shots and check up. Been going there since 2004.
Thank you for letting me know you have talked things over, and think it best not to proceed. I did not intend to scare you away from one of my favorite breeds, but I just wanted you to know the realities.
Perhaps a smaller terrier would be better suited? They really all are different even within the same general group.
So sounds like Spike will be the king of the mountain for a little while longer.
I did enjoy speaking with you.

Dear Barbara: After talking with you, and discussing an Airedale rescue with my husband, we’ve decided a big 60 to 70 lb dog is just too big for us…..I’ve always loved Airedales, but maybe in another life I’ll have one…. We want our new pet to be a good match all the way around…..when we had a larger home, with a fenced yard….an Airedale would have been perfect.
I appreciate your consideration, and wish you the best during this holiday season.
Sincerely, Laura Casey

Hi Laura,
Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued Airedale.
Although it doesn’t look like you are familiar with Airedales, it is good that having had a Wheaten, you know something of the terrier personality.
The fact that you do not have a fenced yard is of concern. An airedale really can never be let off leash, so you would have to be a very dedicated frequent leash walker.
Also it is somewhat rare to find an Airedale who is cat-tolerant, but not impossible.
50 pounds is actually on the small side for an Airedale, even a female.
All that being said, I would like to arrange to speak to you in the near future. I am also retired, and can accommodate most any time that is convenient for you.
Weekday afternoons are best for me.
I look forward to speaking to you.

Oh yes, sorry! The home is situated on a rather LARGE lot but as mentioned, not fenced. There is a deck off the back sliding glass doors that is available for going outdoors withouth running away. Nina mentioned she walks her dogs four times a day…not necessarily looooong walks, but walks. Flynn and Ginger are even tempered, both eleven years old and very dog friendly. She even mentioned how one of the neighborhood dogs comes to play in the front yard with them.
Nina, her pups and her home seem quite layed back. She is what I would call ‘artsy’ and I mean that due to one whole living/dining room wall is painted to look rather Egyptian [like Egyptian stones…pretty neat!]. It is not a huge home, but then, neither is mine, so I think there is adequate room. Again, my dogs were a bit antsy, but here’s were great. Bonni did well with Flynn [the boy], but Oliver wasn’t so sure…but then, Oliver has always been unsure of other dogs. Something we have to resume work on now that I’m getting around better.
Nina has a two story house which usually makes for great up and downstairs romping or exercise. She mentioned in conversation how her ex spouse is the ”babysitter” when she has to go out of town, so we know that is covered. As mentioned, we spoke of dog food and she is pretty particular as Flynn will have tummy problems easily so she reads all labels well. Her dogs are left dry food at all times/at will and they get wet food when she eats . Her Blue’s had just recently been groomed and they looked to be in good health. Her vetrinarian is a local one I’ve heard of near her home.
The bottom floor of the home is pretty open…the dogs have free run from living room, dining room, kitchen and back. I believe there was a bedroom downstairs as well. Then of course, there is the whole upstairs…nothing was blocked off.
Well I think I have filled in the blanks…but if there’s something else just let me know and I will do my best. It goes without saying a ‘dale that gets along well with other dogs would be a great fit, and she did mention an older dog, as in ‘not a puppy’ with the whole potty training thing. Again, her dogs are eleven, but quite chipper-but not too rambunctious.
Well, I think that’s it. I hope this helps. She is aware there aren’t many [or any?] available at this moment, but you and I know how that can change fast! Take care and God bless, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!!

Thank you, Trina.
Could you add a few more details and observations from your visit, please?
For instance, I know she does not have a fenced yard. Did you feel comfortable that the dogs and any new dogs would have leash- only walks several times a day?
You said you brought your two, but they stayed in the car. But Bonni was okay w/ a brief interaction w/ one of the Kerry Blues?
Did you feel the home was ‘dale friendly, as in not too fussy, if you know what I mean.
I want to get as clear a picture in my mind as possible as we move forward with this applicant.
Just came from the home visit with Nina, Flynn and Ginger [her Kerri Blues]…wonderful! She is very nice, particular in how the dogs are fed and cared for and her place is nice and condusive to another pup. Brought my two [kept them in the car] only for size relevance and difference. Bonni did okay outside with Flynn but Oliver wouldn’t have any part of it. That’s my dogs though:O) She will be a great Aire mom, as seen by her Blues!

Thank you for letting me know you think it is best to wait until spring before adopting a new dog.
It is unfortunate that you feel discouraged. Your application came in on 12/5, I responded the next day, and the first time I heard from you was today, 12/8.
All I knew is that you had met Lucy, perhaps a week before? I don’t know exactly when. That is why I asked about the circumstances, assuming you were in one of Sandy’s classes.
I do not know what you mean by applications, plural, or emails that were never replied to.
Our adoption process is indeed a process, and we do our best to be responsive in a timely manner.

Hey Barbara!! We did not have a dog in Sandy’s class. We had only went for 3 Mondays to see and spend time with Lucy. We have never had any problems with any of our dogs and fencing. We are looking into putting up a fence in the back yard, but we live on 8 acres and the only neighbors we have are my parents on one side and my brother and his wife on the other. We only have our dogs out when we are out with them. We feel at this time that we may wait until spring into getting a new dog. To be truthful I am a liitle discouraged in this process of putting in applications and email people and never hearing back and then to go to the class only to find out that Lucy was adopted by someone else. We do really appreciate all the work that foster parents do for these dogs and we have always felt that rescuing is the way to go.
Thank you

Hi Shana,
Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued airedale.
I understand you have been informed that Lucy, the airedale you met at Sandy’s classes, is going to a returning adopter.
But I hope you would still like to continue with our process, so that you an be approved when the right dog comes along.
Could you let me know a good time to call you? I am retired, and can be available most any time at your convenience, weekday afternoons after 2:00 is best for me.
We will need to discuss at length how you would manage an airedale without a fenced area.
Also, I was curious as to which dog is going to class with you? And are your husband and daughter also participating?
I look forward to speaking to you soon.
Barbara Lawson 518 208 4047
Thanks, Barbara for you’re quick response. I’ve talked with my husband and he said we could put in an invisible fence along our property line, we have an acre of land. We live in a small subdivision, on a mountain top, paved roads etc, but still rural. I know 50 lbs is small for an airedale….and we’d consider larger…..just don’t want a small horse in the house…..We’ve not had any trouble with our one cat, our Wheaten would charge him on occasion but Spike would stand his ground and that was about it…..Spike is a mellow fellow as the vet says. We want a good fit with our Airedale….I’ll try to call you before the end of the week, in the afternoon.
I look forward to speaking to you as well.

12/8 Good phone interview. I stressed my concern about no fence; she assured me the dog would always be on leash when outside. Not sure that’s 100% true based on what she talked about their wheaton. He sister and husband live in the property next door. I told her to save the money on an e fence; an airedale would not respect it.
Her cat Spike is dog savvy, and she knows introduction would have to be very cautious.
They want a dog who wants to go everywhere with them, in the car, on the boat. I told her 50 lb airedales, even females, are not that common. She understood. She asked about activity level, I said several brisk walks a day should be good.
They think up to 3 or so years is best; they (the husband especially) do not want an older dog who is going to die in 5 years.
They are going to be gone for a week in January, and think it best to wait until after then to welcome a new dog. I agreed.
She asked about Izzy, who we actually don’t know if we will have.
For home visit, I can ask Claire.
No hurry.
Hi Barbara,
I spoke with Trina last week and we will be meeting on Saturday. 😀 I am definitely still interested in going forward! This is just a crazy time of year, with the kids coming in from college, plus I’ve been out of town more than usual, so finding a time to meet has been harder than it normally would be. Thank goodness things will be settling down now! 🙂
Looking forward to meeting with Trina and hopefully finding a great new pup in the near future. 😀

Hello Nina,
It’s been a month since we spoke, and Trina Wright contacted you to arrange a home visit shortly after.
You agreed to wait until after the Thanksgiving holiday to contact again.
Are you still interested in pursuing our process?
Please let me know if I should move you to our inactive and/or maybe later file.
Thank you, and I hope all is well with you and the Kerry Blues.

Hi Barbara,
I spoke with Nina the other night and I am to call her next Friday [Dec. 9th] to confirm a visit for the next day. Not sure where she stands as far as Airedale adoption priority, but figure I will know more then…unless you hear something beforehand.
Only Bill, myself, Jessica and the two pups are in the house. And usually Jess is off and running elsewhere. She will be 29 this month [how can this be????]. Knee is doing alright, but it is a process and sometimes the cold is bothersome. About to try to go for a walk. Will see how that goes:O) I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas!!!
Trina
Adopted by Broadwaters 11.28. They met Cyndie and Warren in Asheville.
Renamed Tucker.
Some early scuffles w/ the two Scotties, but after a week, and some counseling, things seem to improved.
Barbara,
I am so sorry I am just now getting back to you and that I have not gotten back to you from the last time. I am still very interested in adopting but unfortunately my living situation does not allow me to do it until the end of May. I am still taking care of mine and my boyfriends dog and my roommate does not want another pet in the house. Could you please keep in the loop but know that I wont be able to do anything until May.
Thanks so much for your time and dedication 🙂

Hi Mary,
I haven’t been in touch with you since this summer. In fact, I think the last time I wrote to you, maybe in July, you did not reply.
Anyway, I wonder if your life has settled down, and if you are still interested in adopting an airedale.
Are you going to be staying in AL and going to grad school? Or have you relocated?
Anyway, please just let me know if I should put you in our inactive file, or keep you in mind, especially if we get a new ‘bama dale.
