Hi, Grooming – ARG pays for that! Please make an appointment for the grooming and let me know and I will call in our ARG credit card and pay for it.
I’m including Barbara Lawson on this note because she and I try to keep eachother in the loop on everything and of course, she will offer any sage advice.
Let me reconcile his vet records. We do have vet records. If anything, I will see if Barbara Yager (in SC) can scan them so we can all see Beo’s health. I do know that you may have to take him to your vet for a HW test and a microchip insert. It seems like Cindy had taken him to the vet in March 2012 so we knew he was up to date but of course, things like what you’re seeing will need to be examined/overall health assessment.
Flora – she will teach him on the humping. Now, he must want to protect you. I am sure that he is keen and tuned into anyone in need after living with Cindy and her family’s situation over his lifetime. Let me know your thoughts on this as you get to know him better. Wow – he was really watching over you when you fell asleep! I hope you are ok and so thankful your tenant was aware and called 911. Hoping you find a new tenant quickly to replace the one leaving in Sept.

BEO oh BEO!!! He is a CHARACTER!!!! Except for “humping” [which we are NOT ALLOWING], he and Flora get along FINE. Flora is NOT happy that he is taking all the room on my bed. He IS BIG!!!!. I picked Beo up Saturday afternoon. Cindy is still in mourning. She called me Saturday night to see how he was doing. Honestly, I think if it were not for the behavior, she would have kept him. He is NOT constantly jumping on my, but definitely wants to . He is still a pup in his mind [he turns 2 in November]. Flora and I are teaching him to use the DOGGIE DOOR instead of my “Doggie Porch”. He’s just not use to the idea. I have noticed a couple of nodules [small] on his back. We might want to look into this. He has YET to go on a walk [I’ll probably take them both at dusk when it is 75 degrees outside]. He definitely does Not LIKE to be away from humans, but he is learning not to jump on doors and window panes when I leave the room. Hewill protect!! Yesterday afternoon, I came back from an outing when my blood sugar dropped. I ate a fruit-sicle and somehow ended up on my bed asleep . My tenant heard Beo barking and came down to see what was going on. She found him laying on top of me in my bed [front paws/head only]. She called 911 and he would not let anyone come near me [although, I do not think he was raging at anyone–just refused to move]. Finally their Captain came to help out and obviously felt comfortable with dogs and was able to get Beo off so they could put an IV in me. He’s definitely a GOOD dog, just needs some taming and training. Since I am w/o a job, I have time to work with him. He is getting used to STAY and “out” [obviously taught to him by Cindy].
If I can find the money, I want to get him GROOMED. He is VERY SCRUFFY looking, but not matted. Doesn’t like to be brushed and in desperate need of a bath. I may have to wait until I get paid [Sept. 1]–Flora could use a good trim as well.
I’ll have to look to see if Cindy included the surrender papers in her packet. I’ll get back with you on that.
That’s about it for now. I’m going to fill out a couple more “applications”. My tenant announced to me she is leaving the first of September [she’s renting a house nearby–but that’s $700 out of my monthly account] so I am also posting my upstairs rooms online. No wonder I had a reaction last night!!!!!
Write to you soon. Hope everything turned out well.

Hi Deb – Do you have Beo? I cannot tell from Cindys note if she has released him to ARG yet so I thought that I’d write to you and ask. Sorry for not getting to this faster today – I’ve been out of town and had another urgent issue that I needed to clear up for my neighborhood and I’m just getting to ARG items. So, let me know how its going – or what we can do. Is Beo ok with you? Too big? Obeying you? Respecting you? Good to Flora? Cute??????

Cindy, thanks for trusting ARG to find a new family for Beo. I promise, we’ll be very careful and thoughtful and forever care for him. I do not know if I mentioned but the adopting family will need to sign a contract and for any reason that the adoption does not work out – no matter the reason, the age, etc, ARG will take Beo back into our care. We do a good job of keeping in touch with the adopting families with photos, updates, questions and overall good rapport. Again thanks for looking out for Beo in a hard time for you all. Best wishes to you and your son.

Deborah, if you could let me know if you can meet at New London Plaza between 10:30AM and 1:30PM today or tomorrow by emailing (olafgwsk@gmail.com) or calling me (706-510-3733 or 470-216-3186), that would be great. Thank you so much for your help!
I know a good place in Snellville to meet. It is right off the main drag (Hwy 78) so it is easy to get to and half way between here and Decatur. Traveling east on Hwy 78 thru Stone Mountain into Snellville there will be a McDonald’s on her right and New London Shopping Plaza right beyond that, also on the right (approaching Hwy 124). Exact directions can be found on Google Maps.
I can meet during the day between 10:30 and 1:30, tomorrow or Friday. Otherwise, I can meet her on Saturday. Please let me know if one of those times will be convenient for her.
Thanks again!

Hi Cindy
I have a foster home for Beo and she lives in Decatur GA. Her name is Deborah Hadaway.
She has a 5 ft fence at her home and she owns another Airedale girl named Flora. This spring she and Flora fostered an airedale for us and they enjoyed the experience very much and Flora likes to have a friend in residence.
It looks to be about 1 hour between Decatur and Monroe. Would you be willing drive Beo to Decatur and take him to Deborah? Or, if that is too far then Deborah can meet you half way. Looks like Snellville is about half way for you two. I looked up any hotel or place in Snellville and it must be pretty small. I’ll look again tonight for a good meeting spot – there’s lots of fast food places at that exit. I just like to pick a less busy meeting place which I need to spend more time. Or, if I’ve missed it and there is a better town that is in the middle, let me know. I’m not a Georga expert!
Let em know your thoughts and what timing. Deborah is a retired teacher and has some flexibility. Thanks!

I called the vet’s office today and spoke to Allison and when I asked about the family she asked me if I had called earlier so I said No that I hadn’t and then she said I think one of the other girls spoke to a rescue group and put me on hold. Then she came back on and asked me for my name and phone number and said that she would call me back. I never got a call so I will try again tomorrow.
If you need a home visit done I could do this one because Cameron is very close to me…..

my gosh. i’ll treat her with kid gloves.
i have fostered enough to already tell you she’s a keeper by far. what a doll. cat friendly, dog friendly, kid friendly. no food aggression.
last night i went to bed and left her in her crate in my living room. she howled. hated it. i heard her shaking the crate and i laid there and waited her out. this morning she was on the floor at the foot of my bed. crate door was wide open. so i did what i absolutely know better than to do and that was let her have free reign of the house when i went to work. i went home at lunch and she has not damaged anything, and didn’t soil in the house that i can tell.
she has never been up and down stairs and teaching her that is tough with her leg. bless her heart. she sticks to me like glue and won’t get far enough away to investigate anything. when i turned around she stuck her head through my legs. she might have a little separation anxiety. i know that she will be in her honeymoon stage for a few weeks, but you can spot the really good ones pretty quick.
she needs a foster home that can really work her leg. she has to stay pretty quiet for 10 days or so and then she will need rehab in order to learn to use her leg again. do we have any approved homes where someone will have time to walk her and possibly put her in a pool?

Barbara, according to Jody at the Plantation Animal Hospital their animals have never been kept up to date on their vaccinations, even rabies shots. Their current dog was given original shots and then not been back and was due in March…..so that’s the info on this applicant.

Do you think he would be a candidate for the family in Nashville who is a principal at a school

He was good around her father
Still afraid of her husband
She said do you have someone in mind for him
I thought of that couple just because of location
Fairfaxs family might be good too

Yes we were quite stunned that she is so sick. Even more so when the vet said all we can do is keep her comfortable. She eats the best food, fromm and orijen grain free, and has never missed a shot date or vet visit or met another cat until we got the kitten and he’s healthy. Our vet said we did everything right and it just happens. They aren’t even 100% what is wrong with her. I’m just still in shock. Chris was fine thankfully, the car just had to get some body work. Tues or Wed will be perfect between those times. If anything changes, I will let you know.
Thanks,
Ashley

Thank you looking into adopting a rescued airedale.
I’d be glad to talk to you about airedales in general, and our adoption process, as you state you don’t know much about them.
I am curious how you came to think of adopting an airedale, rather than a different breed.
To answer a couple of your questions, airedales do shed, but less than many other breeds, due to the nature of their coat.
Also, I would not want you to limit yourself to gender. Neutered males are not particularly inclined to mark. I currently have three males, and it has never been a problem. Actually, often females take longer to house train, although every airedale is different. It is not unusual for some accidents in the house with any new dog, very quickly overcome when the new dog learns the routine of the household, and the people learn the needs of the dog. No dog wants to embarrass itself or its owner 🙂
Unless your garage is “aire-conditioned,” I would not leave a dog there in summer. Nor outside. Airedales have a strong prey drive, if they see something interesting like cat, rabbit, etc., they can take off and forget all their recall training.
Please let me a good time to call you. I am retired; weekday afternoons are best for me, but I can be available any time at your convenience.
Ashley,
I called you twice last week and left messages. I guess your week got away from you.
Please just let me know if we can set up a new time frame, or if you have decided not to pursue adoption, or postpone for a while.
Thank you. I would appreciate a reply.

Thank you for the quick reply.
My husband and I have been debating about the timing of adopting a new rescue for quite some time now. We were always planning on waiting until Duffy is no longer with us, but I have spoken with other dog people who have said that it often brings out the youthfulness of the older lab for whatever time he has left. The main reason we were interested in pursing this month is that my husband and I have essentially taken off the rest of the summer to be at home with our kids. We felt that this would be the best timing for the new rescue to get adjusted, but are open to discussing what you all would feel to be the best for all dogs involved.
Do you have any rescues that are available now? How often do you get rescues into your system? When Duffy does die, my husband and I do not want to wait too long as Riley has never been alone and we feel that he would not do well with being the only dog (especially when I go back to work).
I would love to chat more about your thoughts on this.
Take care,
Stacey
