      Hi Barbara,

Thank you so much for getting in touch with me! Do you have any suggestions on meeting an Airedale in person? I personally do not know anyone that has one. Do you ever allow visits to meet the ones you already have? The qualities that we are looking for in a dog are very similar to what we had with our Goldendoodle. I wanted to be able to rescue a dog this time instead of go through a breeder because I know how many dogs need new homes!

Feel free to call me any time this week. I am a Pharmaceutical Rep and therefore often available to talk on the phone in between offices. Any time after 9:00 a.m. would be great!

Here is my phone number, just in case: 704-574-1616.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

      Thanks,

      Kate Vaughn

      Hi Kate and Jason

Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued airedale to your family. I am glad you are in a more stable situation now and are considering a new dog. It must have been very difficult to give up your goldendoodle, but I am glad you apparently made sure he went to a great home.

Since you do not have airedale experience, I would recommend that you meet one or two in person before going forward. If your research has been only on the internet, I caution you that the descriptions there are general and do not necessarily reflect real life. Do you see

In any event, please let me know a good time to call you to go over our process, your hopes and expectations. As it happens, we do not have very many available airedales at this time, but that can change at any time.

        Barbara,

Good to hear from you as well and thanks for the prompt reply. I’ll keep my eye on your site, this certainly isn’t an emergency. While I think Stella would really enjoy the company and the assist with chasing and digging for little critters in our woods, I suspect she’s also enjoying herself as queen bee and the only recipient of my attention.

Again, thanks for the quick reply; it sounds like you have an excellent plan for Beo and I’ll keep an eye on your site for an appropriate match.

        Warm regards, Galen

        Hi Galen!

It was great to see your name come up again. You have always been a stalwart supporter of ARG and have helped us out many times.

I was sorry to see Mr Moos had to go the Rainbow Bridge last year, but we all know he had a wonderful life with you.

It is a pleasure to put you on our “any dale he wants, any time” elite list of returning adopters.

You mentioned an interest in Beo(wulfe). It looks like he may be going to two of our friends who run a great organization that trains dogs of all kinds to become service dogs, usually for disabled returning vets. His foster mom and the co-director have spoken, the foster mom has done a temperament test. Now he needs to have a hip x-ray done, as that is a requirement for the program.

They are called Canines for Service, and the co-directors have several airedales in their program, and several more as home dogs, including one of ours.

Maddie is indeed estimated 8 yrs old, but she seems fine with younger dogs. Her foster mom breeds and trains flat coated retrievers, and she gets along fine with them. But you are right, she may not be up for Stella’s 3 yr old energy, which to me means puppy with all its charms and frustrations.

So please do keep an eye on our website. We are low on ‘dales at the moment, but we never know who might come along next.

Let me know if any new ones catch your aire-eye, and we will keep you in mind as well.

Pat Hairston inquired as might be candidate for Canines for Service.

BL to ask Deb Hadaway if she can cat test him; that is critical for a service dog.

Yes I agree but I hope they want a puppy so we never have to place with them.

Oh, but then they will never go away.

Well, they are just painful no matter what we do.

            Here’s the deal

They are probably good dog parents

HOwever – we have other folks waiting on dogs. I don’t know if someone is already approved who would be a match for ellie mae.

I told Mrs this as well. I went over the matching process because she assumed that as soon as she was home visited, interview, that they could adopt ELlie Mae.

I said No, once you complete the application process, then we’ll work together to find the best match for you. I said for Example if you had a cat and you wanted Ellie Mae, then that would not be a good match because we do not know about her and cats. Which was a bad example because she went on about no other animals in her house so that would not be a reason they could not have Ellie Mae.

Now, I think they only want young and that may be a limiting factor.

This message annoyed me this AM

No, because Lucyz says she is adopted does not mean that she is for you, Mr Error

This AM i rec’d an 865 number at office. Because we have Maddie in that 865 area and I was worried it was Sandy, I answered it. I have to walk out to the porch and talk to the person because I won’t talk at my desk. This woman starts in on me – are you Christina Prange? Yes. I understand you work with Airedale Rescue – yes. Then she says well my husband wrote to you this AM but we saw ellie mae and we think we want her now instead of Lucyz. I said yes, Lucyz is adopted. Mrs Error says – well we saw that she was adopted but we did not know if it was for us. She then asked if Ellie Mae was the standard size. Their other Airedale was Oorang and they want stanadard sized and they want a one year old instead of a 3 y/o. I said the adoption process involves several steps and Barbara Lawson would interview them. Mrs E says that she knows their vet references have been checked. I told them that Barbara is the only application volunteer and that she would call them when she could. I said in addition her computer went to the dr on the weekend so that is an additional delay. Mrs E said at least 6 times -so we just wait? I said yes, you need to wait. She kept saying it! She said can you tell Barbara that we want to adopt Ellie Mae. I said I’ll note it on your application. I then went through the matching process of matching up an airedale to the right family and she told me all about their family and they want Ellie M. She then asked for Barbara’s phone # and I told her that I was working and did not have access to it. She went through the ‘wait’ thing again. SOOOOO ANNOYING!

            Hello Christina,

Just wondering about the status of our adaption on Lucy Z. I notice on the web site that it says she is adapted. Since I haven’t heard back from your organization, I don’t if I that is us or someone else. If we didn’t get her, would try for Ellie Mae (the new listing). I realize you are volunteers and busy but I felt we had to touch base.

            Thanks for your help.

Will tell him to re-contact in December and go to a breeder if they want a puppy.

                  Hi,

Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued airedale.

                  A few things to clarify:

First of all, what is your last name?

Black airedales are very rare. In 12 years of working in Airedale rescue, I have met one pair.

Airedales cannot be trusted to respect an e-fence. He/she could never be allowed outside unattended.

Our available airedales are listed on our website. The number and availability vary.

Your four young children may be a challenge. Although Airedales are not considered aggressive, they can be inadvertently clumsy.

You will surely have your hands full when your husband deploys.

They do shed, contrary to being described as hypo-allergenic.

I do not necessarily want to discourage you, but never having had an airedale, only met one in your town, I want to be clear on what you are contemplating.

Think over the items I mentioned above, and if you would like to pursue, let me know a good time to call you. I am retired, and can be available most any time at your convenience.

                      Hey Christina,

Yes I’m still interested in adopting, however my fiance suffered a heat stroke after I had talked to Barbara last. All is getting better, but it will be a while before we will be able to adopt. I’m kind of waiting on life to calm down a bit. Our sick kitty also passed away during all the other crazy stuff. In the next few months I think everything will be settled down again and back to normal. We are just trying to get stable again right now.

                      Thank you,

                      Ashley

The vet is under the name Roxanne Neal.

We took a number of online quizzes and they pointed to Airdales fairly consistently. The two older members of the family want a “guard dog” that will bark with people come up. We are NOT looking for an attack dog. It is a difference in terms. To us a watch dog is one that will alert us. We do not want or need a dog to bite people.

We would like one a little slower to warm up to others, but one that will make friends if they see us welcome them into our home. We want one that can be a member of the family. Playing in the yard. Going for walks.

The fencing varies as does the terrain. Across the back (the east side) is 5′ tall metal (4″ squares) with a cattle gate. Then behind that is the goats with 5′ metal (4″ squares) on the other three sides. On the south is 5′ tall metal (4″ squares) which extends to the side of the house. On the north is is 5′ tall metal (4″ squares) and behind that is a fence line and then a stream that leads to a lake on a property we are in discussion to purchase. On the North side of the house is a wooden fence about 5′ high with a double gate.

We have not met any airdales, but would love to. You can call me about anytime. If I am unavailable it will go to voice mail.

                        A couple of questions:

What name is your vet record under? Our volunteer who called was told no record could be found under your name.

Please clarify what, if any, fencing your property has.

I am also curious as to how you came to seek an airedale. You certainly have had a diverse list of animals in your family over the years.

If your primary goal is to have a guard dog kind of personality, I would not recommend an airedale. They do have a fearsome bark, true, but really are not fierce protectors. Have you met very many airedales? Is your breed selection based on internet searches, which are not particularly accurate?

I just don’t want you to have unrealistic expectations.

Thank you pat for sharing the info about Kaycee. She sounds like a delightful, sweet girl. But my instinct tells me she is not the one for us. And as much as I want to help her, I have learned at my age to trust my instincts! She deserves a wonderful home and I hope she will find it very soon. You’ve got a lot on your plate, Pat, and you are a generous, loving person to care for her while she waits on that home.

We have found another dog with a local rescue here in Atlanta who we plan to meet Saturday. She’s not an Airedale 🙁 but she was a stray found on the side of a busy road who also needs a loving home. I have been overwhelmed with the number of dogs who through no fault of their own don’t have a loving home.

If thing change with our plans, I will let you know ASAP. Good luck with everything, especially Kaycee finding her new home.

Unfortunately, after I did not initially hear back from your group I found an Airedale puppy online. Therefore, I made a commitment to purchase the 3 month old puppy. This may work better for me as it will allow me to train the dog myself. I am excited to do this but nervous at the same time. If this falls through (owner sells pup, decides to keep it, etc) I will be sure to contact and see where things are with Beo and Yogi. Thanks so much for your time….and for what you do for Airedales. Welcome back to ARG! We would love to find a new airedale to fill your home with love and laughter and wet beards. We know no creature can ever replace Gracie, but I just know there is a new lass just waiting for you. You mentioned Ellie Mae on your new application. She has generated a lot of interest, as you might imagine, but has not yet been placed.

Also, Alyssa also let us know you were ready again, and of course we remember how we asked her to home visit you way back when. I remember thinking “gee they live on the same street, and their house numbers are close together, I wonder if they know each other?”

We know you do not have a fenced yard, but are dedicated leash walkers.

Would you let me know a good time to call you to catch up, and I’ll tell you what I know about Miss Ellie Mae and any other available dales at this time.
