Hi Barbara,
Spoke to Mindy at the Bluegrass Animal Hospital and got really glowing report from her. The minute I said their name she sighed and said that she was so happy that they were going to get another Airedale because they had just lost theirs and how sad they were. All pets were kept up to dates on everything. So they sound like good candidates!

….. Just wanted to say that we didn’t realize there were two females available for adoption. We would be interested in Miss Maddie.
Which state does she live in? We are in Georgia.
Any additional information you can furnish about her, we would love to hear it!
Thanks,
Susan

Good vet report from Sue:
Hi Barbara,
I spoke to Leanne at the vet’s office and the vet said they were excellent pet owners that they did everything and then something for their animals. The vet said that you couldn’t find better pet owners than this couple, so all is good there….
Sue
You won’t believe this but Linda called again abt Tess. She said her husband will let her go if he knows the type of family. The reason is that every time she goes outside to their 5 acres (ecollar), she digs and she come in dirty and she requires a bath. Her husband is only one who can bathe her. I could not talk with her yesterday due to work

HI Barbara. Thanks for the phone message yesterday. I enjoyed our talk. At this point we are not ready to get another dog. Hopefully we will know when it is time. If it is acceptable with Airedale Rescue, I’d like to have my name left on the list. If we need to be screened to do so, that is fine. Just let me know. Thanks,

Hi Shea,
Thank you for looking into possibly adopting a rescued airedale.
I appreciate you being open about not being that familiar with airedales. They are not for everyone, as they can be quite stubborn, and you have to be consistent in training so they know the rules. You are rewarded with laughs every day and unflinching loyalty.
We have a number of families with airedales and horses. Some of the airedales intermingle with the horses well, some have to be kept separate.
Like anything else it depends on the animals, what they are used to and what they will accept.
I have a warm spot in my heart for labs. We had a black lab named Mac for about 12 years. We had him when we got involved in Airedale Rescue.
He got along with the ‘dales great, in fact he put a few feisty younguns in their place when needed. They are quite different in demeanor in my experience, labs tend to be a little more laid back. Mac loved to fetch balls and sticks in the river across from our house, the dales were not interested.
We have other volunteers and adoptive families with several breeds of dogs, and even cats. Most airedales are not fond of cats, and view them as prey. But if they learn which are “their cats” they can get along okay. The cats always need to have a safe escape route if they want to get away.
I hope this helps. One of our core volunteers grew up with labs, and I can put you in touch to talk to her if you like.
That would be after you and I have first spoken.

Holy smokes you have your hands full!!
We are ready for a dog in our house. It’s over two years since I lost my Irish terrier and we really miss having a pet. I still well up when I think about him though; isn’t that crazy!? Lordy I miss him. Our daughter will be 9 in August and she continues to grow comfortable with dogs and we want to give here that experience.
We are not sold on a girl dog but I have to admit I am kinda partial to a girl. Our ‘key ingredients’ are the same; OK with other dogs, good with children, no food aggression, a snuggle puss/love bug would be ideal, no major health issues. Gets along with cat might be to much to ask (my Irish Hated cats!) but we have many in our neighborhood and my wife is a cat person and it would be ideal…can’t we all just get along, people, plants and animals!?
I did see Molly and she is beautiful. My only hesitation is her age and the mention of her joints. Age wise, we want Grace to grow with our potential dog. However and to stay on theme of contradicting myself, I realize the importance of the gift of loving ANY animal for any length of time we might be lucky to share with them in their twilight years and to the sad end.
To end this coffee induced ramble (sorry); I’m glad to have reached back out to ya’ll, and thank you for emailing back. If there is an Airedale you think we might be interested in meeting/should meet/fits the ticket and if we need to do the pre screen family visit (we never had a chance to do that and would be happy to set that up again) I’m game to make that happen. Molly, Winnie, whom ever. I’m not looking to replace Barley , my Irish. We are looking for a new family member and I’m used to terriers; Like their wit, their intelligence, their loyalty, their curiosity and, of course, the groovy beards!
Thanks again, look forward to hearing back,
Greg

Hi Greg! Yes of course I remember you. I am not sure of Winnie and kids. Her surrendering mom and i have been in touch for about 1 year. Winnie was found by her in 2011 and she is their first Airedale. I think that she is finding that Winnie’s Airedale spirit and energy was more than she wanted. She LOVES Winnie but she was not an Airedale person. I was supposed to speak to her today at 1:30 and I got tied up at work so I missed chatting with her about why she is ready to surrender. I will know more soon about Winnie.
Have you seen Molly? Molly is turning 7…I think, I have her exact birthday. She is TERRIFIC! She is with me for fostering. I guess her other pet issue is – she does not get along with Birkie but Birkie is kinda insecure and jealous so the two don’t match. However – she is so much fun with Tuna! I think he is going to wear her out as she is not too in shape and he just wants to play. She won’t say no and I can imagine that she is pure exhausted. We have a few nice dogs in. Are you interested in female only? I think that we have a lot of females and only one male who is 11 y/o. Let me and Barbara know – looking forward to hearing from you.

January 25, 2013 at 8:37 pm in reply to: Private: Elizabeth & Kenneth Firth – Ladson SC 29456 deceased #13293Hi Barbara,
If it’s in the 20’s here I can only imagine how cold you must be!
I had the most enjoyable time with Ken and Liz last night. Bonni enjoyed herself immensely, wandering from room to room and checking out all the Maggie sniffs. She especially liked when Ken gave her a treat!
Wonderful people, as I’m sure you know already. And 25 yrs. of Aire experience…I’m sure I could learn from them:O) They have a great expanse of a backyard, keep their dog inside [living quarters] and have a grand home that the dog would have the run of. A bed is provided for said ‘family member’ along with Blue Buffalo brand food as well as home cooked food [like I do with mine]. They do travel and the dog sometimes goes with or if unable, the dog stays with the next door neighbor who is Liz’s best friend [and she enjoys walking with the dog when they are in her care!!!]-a plus for sure. If they go on a trip, they have lots of walks at the destination!!! As loooong time dog/Airedale people, they know the expense incurred in caring for dogs and spare none. Both Liz and I were almost in tears several times while speaking of our dearly departeds last night…I hope we can become friends….I really like them a lot.
Let me know what else I can regale you with. If there is a sweetie in ARG now that fits what they are looking for [an older dog/not a pup or youngster], by all means, go for the gusto! Oh, they did ask about how transport works. I told them I met in Columbia, SC for Oliver [as he came from Tennessee]. I think y’all will figure that out though.
It’s so good to be able to do a visit again. I’ve missed it. And such a wonderful couple. Thank you for this opportunity. Would you mind letting me know when they become ‘parents’ again?
Thanks and God bless you and yours,
Trina

January 23, 2013 at 1:11 pm in reply to: Private: Laura and Richard Schnabel – Topton NC 28781 #13296Good phone interview 1/22.
Their home in Topton is in the NC mountains, quite isolated. Richard travels sometimes for work, and Laura is home alone. She is not fearful, but thinks having a dog again would be good. Their previous wft loved the lake they live on, the one before that did not.
When I asked why an airedale, they like the terrier attitude and would like a larger dog, but not too big. Prefer mature female.
Planning ahead, they have recently purchased a home in Waynesville NC, which they plan to move to over the next few months, by summer. They think the time is approaching when it would be better to be closer to services i.e. hospitals. They are both in good health, but being realistic.
No big hurry for the move or for getting a dog.
No idea on HV candidate, may require a second interview. Plus not knowing when they are moving makes the home visit timing a question..
Wow – what a difference a household makes! She is fine here. Fine with boys. Fine with dogs that put her in place. My mentee in training, named Jeff, thinks that Trish may have, one time in her day, been able to put a dog in its place. Not today and it was a very tense situation at Diane’s. We probably wasted 3+ hrs trying to figure that out
She is ok here. Fine with boys.
Bay, you will be happy to hear that Trish is still going. Diane thinks she is 13 y/o-ish. I swear she could be 13+ at least. Seh has NO TEETH. she cannot hear. She kept running off from Dianne and Trish could not hear her. I gave Trish lots of big hugs and told her Bay would be happy to hear she was ‘doing well’
I called Allen to see if he’d help. I think he can help me out. Crate. I don’t think he is in it for long run. Not to adopt. He’d keep her to help me out – i
ll know for sure on monday. He had a lady friend over today when i called and asked about fostering. I think i’d have her on weekends – which si fine, if i can get her not at my house during week.
Diane said when she rubbed her head that she growled perhps her ears hurt
i will try to get into Dr L tomorrow
SHe has terrible bow legs. They curve in. I don’t know how she walks. She came with Tramadol & Rimadly . I thiik losing 15 lbs would help her tremendosly.
My opinions….

January 20, 2013 at 2:18 am in reply to: Private: Elizabeth & Kenneth Firth – Ladson SC 29456 deceased #13292Spoke to Liz today, Saturday 1/19, with Ken in the background.
Wonderful people. Their female Maggie died last Wednesday. They (sounds like Ken) thought they should wait a little while, but Liz couldn’t stand the house being so quiet, so went ahead and applied.
Sue T has done vet check.
I have asked Trina Wright to do home visit.
They are ready. They do want an adult dog, and are partial to females. I told them we just happen to have several in our care right now.
So could be great for any one of the M girls or Tatum.
January 11, 2013 at 11:12 am in reply to: Private: 2020 Renea Lloyd, Stem NC, Golden Previous Adopter – Adopting Dweezil #1327511-20-2020: SEE NEW APPLICATION NOVEMBER 2020 AT END OF POST
Sue T did vet check. Up to date on shots and preventative, but not HW screening. Record under previous name Lloyd.
Phone interview 1/10.
She says she and her husband are ready for a fourth dog, and want an airedale, as he has fond memories of one named Maddie some years ago. I pushed a little as to whether she is happy about that, as she will be the main stay at home caretaker.
She said yes.
The jack russells are aging, but don’t act like it. They love other dogs. Her sister and other family members all have dogs and they all get along.
They have a fenced back yard, but don’t leave the dogs out if no one is home. Good answer.
I think they would be good dale parents.
Christina is arranging for home visit, perhaps this weekend (1.14) and will bring Tuna. Renea was thrilled when I said I would probably ask her, and would she like to meet her dale?- This reply was modified 4 years, 1 month ago by Jackie Cash.

Hi Barbara,
I apologize for the delay in response. Abe was just recently offered and accepted a job in new york city so we’re now questioning whether a new addition is a good idea. I think we are going to think about it for now, if you could list us as inactive for now. I will contact you if anything changes.
Thanks so much for your time,

Hello Karlie and Abe,
Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued airedale.
Please let me know a good time to call you. I am retired, and can be available most times at your convenience.
I will have a number of questions, so let me know a time when you (preferably both of you) will have time to talk about your hopes and expectations, what your routine is with Oliver, etc.
We prefer that our adoptive families have a fenced in yard, but it is not necessarily a deal-breaker. We certainly don’t want a dale left outside alone for hours, of course.
But if you are willing and able for brisk walks every day, can come home midday, that is good for the dog and your peace of mind.
And you mentioned doggie day care, another wonderful things for dogs whose “parents” are away during the day.

Would you please clarify when you are moving, and the address there. Part of our approval process is a home visit by one of our volunteers in your area; we won’t schedule that until you have moved.
But meanwhile, I’d be happy to speak to you about airedales in general, and get an idea of what your hopes and expectations are. And what living with them is like.
