Hi Christina,
Visit went very well. Kelly was married to a veteran and is knowledgeable about training and basic care. She has a Sky terrier and took in her deceased sister’s cat. The Sky terrier is very sociable but probably would have to see how the cat and Airedale would get along. Cat is declawed and lives indoor as does the Sky terrier. House and neighboorhood is very nice as is fenced backyard. Kelly works in the family Subway restaurant franchises doing the bookkeeping and sometimes takes one of the animals to work. I would recommend Kelly for fostering.

June 16, 2013 at 10:34 pm in reply to: Private: Maya – 7 years – King NC 27021 OWNER SURRENDER #13570Amy,
Great to talk to you today about Maya. Thanks for taking her to the vet to see if she was just not feeling good and for some odd reason attacked Gretchen. We will find Maya a new family that will take very good care of her.
As we talked about, please send additional photos of Maya. I will post her on the site to hope to get interest in her. We will state no small dogs, no small children.
I will be away for a week and returning on July 1. Please reach out to me or Barbara who is included in this note. barabara and I work together for many years supporting ARG dales who need to find a new home.
Thanks for the photos!

For example, we were camping on our farm and the next thing we knew Maya had Gretchen turned over onto her back and was growling fiercely. No blood was shed over this instance, but I, unfortunately, had to kick Maya off of Gretchen and she stopped. Maya was resistant to any verbal commands while this was occurring.

Well the gal I spoke to wasn’t all that helpful. She said the lab was overdue for shots, but the app said they didn’t have Eddie anymore, right? Then she is only aware of 1 cat and this cat is due this month for shots. It has been a year since he has been in. So, sorry I know that isn’t too helpful…….

Hello Lou,Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued Airedale.
I am glad you have fond memories of the breed from childhood.
Please let me know a good time to call you to go over our process and
learn about your hopes and expectations.
It will be a challenge to find a cat-tolerant airedale. Not impossible,
but not a given with these guys…..

Todd became very irate when questioned about safety of FInnegan during their upcoming move. Was rude to Christina.
All is well in Addie-land‏

I spoke at length with Nancy Walsh, Jim in the background.
“she is a riot” she said several times.
Great in the car, just settled in the back seat, and would occasionally look out the window.
They took her to the nearby dog park before even going to the house, as they knew she’d had a long day and might like to burn off some steam. She was fine.
They brought her to the house, opened the door and said “go ahead in.” She explored every inch of the house and it seemed to meet her standards. She also found the back yard suitable.
But in true airedale fashion, and by what we had been told, she really wants to be with her people.
She took to Nancy immediately, and follows her everywhere. Took a little longer to warm up to Jim, but that soon was fine also.
They are thrilled and very grateful to all who worked to make this happen.
I told Nancy there is often a honeymoon period, and then she might start testing her limits.
She laughed and said “oh, I expect that, we can handle it.”
Bay, pls send out contract. She asked me how they finalize the adoption.

Hello Barbara,
It was a nice surprise hearing from you. I’m assuming that Addie is still available. And now I guess it depends on whether you think we would give her a good home. We will have questions too, so it will be nice to talk to you. Our daughter, the veterinarian(equine) was starting to look for a dog for us when we didn’t hear from you. She lives in the Shelbyville, TN area. We do like the fact that Addie is a female.
I do want you to know that I have had large dogs. A boxer, German Shepherds, and Danes. This was over many years.
Tuesday morning would be the only morning this coming week that we would not be available. Tomorrow morning Monday, May 20th would be good. And evenings would be good too. We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Nancy

Hello Jim and Nancy,
Thank you for looking into adopting a rescued airedale.
I would like to apologize for the delay in contacting you. Illness and travel has affected our very small group in recent weeks. I hope you are still interested.
Please let me know a good time to call you to go over our process and your hopes and expectations. As a first time airedale person, we will have a lot to discuss.
I’ll have a number of questions for you. I am retired, and can be available most any time at your convenience.
Before we go any further, I do want to clarify one thing on your application. You indicate an interest in Addie and ask if her donation amount is reduced. She is five years old; our “senior discount” begins at age 7 or older. All airedales up for adoption are current on all vaccinations, are micro-chipped, and we have as much information as we can in our files on their personality.
If the adoption donation fee is an impediment for you, let me know, please.
If after going through our process and becoming approved, we all agree that a certain dale would be the best fit for you, we can speak about payment plans.

Chris and Melissa picked up Ozzie at Wendy/Lana’s 4:oo pm Sunday 5.19
All went well; Wendy told them they needed to get him a new collar. And she told them all the supplements and good Taste of the Wild food she recommends.
I will check in tomorrow with Chris and Melissa.
Things have calmed down at Chez Lana/Wendy.
I gave Chris McCarthy, approved applicant Wendy’s number. They are fairly close in distance, so they will try to arrange a meet and greet.
Soon, I hope.
Later the same day, there was another scuffle. This time Ozzie started it, previously it had been Jagger.
Ezzy and Patches not involved either time.
He needs to move ASAP. Wendy says she can handle them for a few days, does not want to board him.
She says good dog, but probably should be only dog.
CP suggested McCarthy and Huling in Atlanta. BL will tell Wendy about them, see what she thinks.
5/14
Wendy’s mobile vet came by and spent at least an hour with her and the boy.
Prior vet records could not be obtained.
84 pounds.
He was so compliant and calm, he said he found it hard to believe he had ever bitten. With strong provocation, maybe. He manipulated every part of his body.
He thinks the metal sutures and incision site Wendy felt was likely from surgery after ingesting a foreign body. Couldn’t tell how long ago, but was surprised the sutures are still there (not removed at the time) or even were used. No reason or easy way to remove them, they are now well embedded.
Healthy.
HW negative.
Got the new HW/worm/flea and tick preventative, can’t think of the name. 6 month supply
Rabies, bortadella, distemper, DHLPP (?) shots given, all three year versions.
Antibiotics for the puncture wound on his head from last night’s scuffle with Jagger.
Found a split under-pad, unrelated to fight with J, but fairly recent. He just told her to keep it clean.
Recommended they continue to keep the dogs separated if not in the room.
Total $317. 00 which includes a 20% discount for rescue.
Wendy will mail you a copy of invoice, Bay, for reimbursement.
All remains calm at home.
First few hours peaceful.
Then after playing well together, Jagger and Ozzie got in a scuffle over the same toy that had previously shared.
Didn’t last long, no blood.
Later he brought his ball to Wendy as she was resting on her bed, and hopped up and fell asleep.
She said she can feel a suture incision site w/ metal sutures on his belly.
Vet records were not provided by owner or county.
Wendy is going to try to track vet through his microchip tag.
Back at Sandy Sutton 5/10
So far so good at first, but on 5/11 she had been growly with one of the flat coats.
She is going to have her vet do another workup to see if any other adjustments need to be made to meds.
Keeping her on Prozac for now
Sandy also commented she has gained weight, and is too heavy again.
Barbara, just glowing reviews for this family! I think their Airedale Geri was a favorite at the vets too. They were happy to hear that the family was looking again….so thumbs up for this vet check!
