Thank you. I just spoke with Lil. I am going to their house at 12:30 on Wednesday. They are just a few minutes from my office downtown. I’ll let you know how it goes.

If not, and you take him home, please have that done. We will reimburse you, or deduct the cost from his adoption donation fee when the adoption agreement and contract goes out.
I think I covered everything in the surrender document below, but for your records……

Cayce is very close. I would be VERY interested! How exciting. Thank you so much for thinking of me, Roudy sounds like a wonderful challenge.

Hi Nancy,
We haven’t been in touch for several months, so I wanted to check in with you.
I thought of you in particular because we have a 1yr9mo old aireboy named Rowdy who is just coming into our care.
He is not even up on our website yet, and I don’t yet have a photo, though there is no doubt he is a “real” airedale.
His human parents both have become in ill health recently, and realize they are not strong enough to properly take care of him.
Apparently the name Rowdy fits him quite well. He is extremely food oriented, in that he won’t perform w/o a treat ready. And yet he’ll get distracted from his food bowl easily. Their vet told him he is “wired differently.” Not sure what that means.
Would you be interested in him? Sounds like a bit of a challenge, but probably will blossom with the right kind of consistent training and attention.
Let me know what you think. I could put you in direct contact with the surrendering owner.
He is in Cayce SC, which I think is not far from you, correct?

I spoke to Lil on Saturday 11/9/13. She and her husband were approved to adopt a few yrs ago And eventually got a puppy when no ARG dogs became available. This is their 3rd Airedale and she said Rowdy is so different. They have had class clicker training and Rowdy never transitioned to perform withouth a treat. He won’t do anything unless there is a treat. They then had a trainer come to their house. I guess the trainer could get Rowdy to be good but they cannot. They asked the trainer if they were too old for Rowdy, should he go to younger people and the trainer said that younger people would not have the patience that Lil and Don have for Rowdy. They said Rowdy has attention deficit issues, very easily distracted. They said he can be eating his dinner out of the bowl and get distracted. (I would say that is pretty bad, I don’t know any dog that is not fully intent on his food!)
Lil is ready. Like today, now, not a second longer. She thought I lived in Fort Mill and she wants to bring him up to me. Hr brother in law lives in Fort mill and she is ready to bring him up. In other words, there is no fostering him until the right family is found. Besides the patience running thin, both have or will have surgeries coming up and they just are not as able to handle a “Rowdy” boy.
gave Zelda heart worm/flea combo of Quincy’s broken and put into a child’s plane hamburger Mickie De’s
she has been through hamburgers places before—-went over to the window and waitedshe really is a good girl
the only thing she needs is work on— not pulling when on a lead
she has been a house dog and like being inside ,very quiet and polite in the vet and in the kennel office.
there is a slight (very) slight film in her eyes–vet had to change lights to see it—and with teeth–guessing she is 6 to 8 yes
little tarter and one front tooth is brown and probably dead, but vet said to just leave it . she “messed” around with it and seemed like it was not pain full.
body in good shape a few deliberations inside back left leg, but not in need of care
flaps of ears should be cleaned a few times a week and ears should be deep cleaned at the same time
will need ears checked for the rest of her life—but that is the only health issue
ears had just a slight infection, so have drops to put in once a day—kennel has then, I put in today—-this is given because of the problem before and stop and bad infection before it starts with her history
no growling or “evil eying” and dogs ( there were large and small)
perfect sitting in the front seat of my truck
happy , waging and leaning on me and the ladies thought she had been with me all week the way she was acting toward me—and this was just the third time we were together
very gentle taking treats from me and the vet techs
no flinching when touched
she is a good dog

I’m so excited for Zelda, I have have pulled both inside and outside dog; this dog is definitely a inside dog
just wonder how she was found on the street; guess she was a military dog and got left behind somehow
In three months this dog was not trained the way she behaves and best of all she do not cower
of all the dogs I have pulled—-this one has just wrapped me—-I cry when I think of her ears and being left to fine her own way
Not sure if it’s because I just lost my Loving Em or Zelda just being Zelda—-but she sure has hit me
I’m so glad she is safe now!!!!!!

Yippee skippee!
I spoke to Pat Lanese, her aire-angel today, after the vet visit.
She is HW negative, what a relief.
Estimated 6-8 yrs old. Overall good teeth, one of slight concern.
59 1/2 pounds.
Pat got three months HW preventative.
She does have “cauliflower ears” evidently indicative of prior untreated infections. Small trace of infection in one ear.
Pulls a little on leash. Was very calm at the clinic around other dogs. Noticed the clinic cat, but did not react aggressively at all, just interested.
I think I have that correct from our conversation, Pat. But add or clarify if needed.
It would be great if the two of you could speak and make arrangements to move her to Kleen-land for fostering.
James, of course you know if the Berk-man does not approve, we will make a different plan.

So for 3 mos, he needs to take heart guard. That’s probably what you do for Dudley? It has to be the brand heart guard though. Not sentinel or any of the other ones.
> >
> > If in 3 mos, he is still testing positive then he will be treated with injections. I always forget the way to spell the treatment so go online and look it up. It is an injection that the vet must give. There are different protocols but usually the dog gets two shots in a short time period. Then the worms start to die off into the blood stream. DURING THIS TIME! FOR 30 DAY THE DOG MUST BE CRATED, LIMITED PLAY AND NO RUNNING OR CHASING. This is because the worms are dieing off and it could cause a clotting issue. I will look for a good website to explain later but that is high level. ARG will pay for this treatment, through a vet we use in the Atlanta area. She helps us with HW pos dogs because the treatment is expensive. So I don’t mean to talk scary but I wanted you to know the ‘worst case scenario’. There are no long term effecT on his health. And because he is low infestation, if any, it means he is in the very early stages. If left untreated, you’ve probably seen those gross pictures in the veterinary office where it shows a heart full of worms. A preventable disease…..but also fixable and we are fortunate Hudson was detected early.

I don’t get freaked out about HW anymore because we have so many ARG dogs who come into our care with HW.

Subject: Zelda
Hi James, I’m your airplane friend, I brought a mix dale you flew to Macon (?)
She is at Shady Pine off 208 where you have gone before.
She is a good gal. Today I put the window down and she put her nose on the door, just hanging out.Very calm, not the least bit skittish– a little apprehensive the first day—but today you would have thought we were best buds
great with everyone at the vets ( Dr Compton at Crossroads) everyone thought she was very well behaved.
There was a big black cat just hanging on the high desk and Zelda had a” very interested in you cat” look, but not a trying to get to the cat ( and they were maybe 36 in apart) not a bark or noise toward the cat
and then back to me and that was that
just a good gal.She has a brown front tooth, but the vet said it is dead, but not reason to do anything with it, she is not in pain and no infection
She does need her ears washed with a wipe on the ear flap —-there are lost of folds from past infection and the vet feels this should be kept clean to stop any type of infection from starting
She has a little bacteria in the ears now and he gave me drops once a day–think this is more of a protections against past problems
The family I picked she up from had two kids in the back seat where she was riding with them.
I have given her a heart/flea (Trifexis 40-60 lb) for the November from my dogs package they are the same weight
call me on my cell and I can tell you more about her

Pat
Owners came forward before Deborah took to vet. Relatives were watching their dogs and they got loose.

Debra will take him to the vet tomorrow to check for a chip, as you saw from my email. I do not have the new CC number so can one of you call and give the vet the number in the a.m.? Or send it to me in 2 or 3 emails (so it isn’t easily identifiable as a CC number) and I’ll do it.
If he does NOT have a chip, should we post him on Sidney’s Lost & Found Airedales?
I saved the photos from my phone because it’s easier to have them in email.

From Pat on her ears
Fforgot to tell you about her ears
they are reddish inside, but not a smell and VERY VERY thick, I had never seen cauliflower ears before
she does not seem to be bothered when you rub around her head and ears
so guess they are fine, but you wonder how the poor baby could hear

ok, this is what I have surmise about the little girl
she loves men–there were 5 or 6 guys working with a boat and trailer. I asked them if I cold bring her close and see if she liked men; she was pulling me towards them. they were fine; talked , touched and let her smell them
She is ok on a leash, may have used a a retractable leash because she does not pay any attention to the person on the end of her leash. Tries to walks in front of me or against my knee ( my dogs walk beside my left leg and I had her there) Would not be good for someone unsteady on their feet. Will pull sometime, she also seems like she wants to bolt—not from fear so much or skittish
more a need to hide—I don’t know if that makes any sense–she kept wanting to pull into the deep side of the road.do not think she has ever been hit, not afraid of hands—-but when walking, I hold my leash in my left hand by the dog and lose in my right hand—the right end was hanging a little out of my hand and I could see her glance over at it ( move it as to not distract her)
when we got back to the office she wanted to go in right away. I made her sit with me for awhile and just be pet all over her body.
She does not limp any more ( vet record said she came in with a injury)
a few gray hairs, but nothing like Miss Em—-how did they decide her age?
she goes to her kennel without a problem
She barks at the kennel; but I have yet to hear her bark
She is just confused I think
We walked past two Shepherds barking at her and she glanced–just glanced-at them and sniffed at a post then kept walking
she had to walk through the grooming room on her way to the kennels and did not pay any attention to the three dogs there.
She will need a person with lots of one on one time to reassure her she is ok
she is in good shape, not thin
Will see her on Thursday—anything you want me to look for?
I have the vet records from Fairbanks North star animal shelter and North Pole Vet Hosp ( yes –North Pole)
I wonder if it was their other dog 47 lb or Zelda 60 lb who was the “grumpy dog”
Remember I said she was very apprehensive toward the other dogs out in the play yard—NOT AGGRESSIVE
my puppy is very playful and would not be the best dog to try and see how she would get along—but he is beyond friendly—so should I try bringing Quincy to meet Zelda?
She must be so very confused, she is not hyper , not a tv remote eater—-just a nice dog—-I did have her in a prong collar, but she did not seem to pull
I wish I had a home, I would bring her with me; but my friend is being very cool with two cats and a dog
