Brian & Katie, I’d like to introduce you to Dale and Keith. They have graciously agreed (once again!!!) to help ARG with a home visit. They will be in contact with you either via phone, text or email so please check spam and junk mail so that you don’t miss connecting.
We (ARG) asks that if at all possible, everyone living in the home be present at the time of the home visit. Dale & Keith may opt to bring their ‘dale with them.
Please, if you’ve any questions, contact me. I anxiously await hearing how the visit went!

Brian & Katie Slattery Phone Interview
4/27/2023Brian and Katie are both school teachers…he is a Principal and Katie teaches. They have 3 children, the oldest is 19 and going to community college. His schedule varies as is often home for a few hours during the day. They have 2 children in HS. Brian describes his neighborhood as dog friendly…12-15 dogs on his street. They live on a cul-de-sac with woods behind them. He says that they see a lot of deer and coyotes. The neighborhood has sidewalks in spots.
They are fenced with a wood fence with 1-2” between the slats. Brian assures me that a dog couldn’t get his/her head through.
They just put their 10 y/o female Airedale down in January of this year due to cancer. They got Winny from a breeder in the N. GA mountains. Frankenfaust I believe is his name…he breeds for size. They currently have a hound mix who is 9 y/o. A neighbor had him, he was about a year old, had a bad wound/laceration below his knee which required amputation. He and Winny got along wonderfully.
Winny and Cooper (hound mix) had the run of the house while alone. This would be the plan for a new dog brought in as well. They are amenable to crating and training if needed.
They do not want a puppy…adopted dog needs to be housebroken. They prefer a female. (don’t know why they expressed an interest in Boone, this being the case?) Age range preference is anywhere from around 2 years to 8 years.
We discussed the need/desire to get Boone out of boarding and the fact that they want to make sure the adopted dog likes Cooper. This being said, they will drive to let them meet, but can’t until school is out. Plus, they prefer a female. We discussed at length the objective to place a dog in the perfect home. Behavioral regression that sometimes happens, time needed to acclimate and need for consistency, patience, time and love.
Came to the conclusion that Boone probably wasn’t a good fit as it would be a month or more before they could consider taking him and again, they prefer a female. Informed them that we would get a HV scheduled in order to get them on the approved list.
References: One has known the applicants for 7 years, the other for at least 12. Both live in the neighborhood and are familiar with the family and Winny and Cooper. The dogs were described as well behaved. Winny was somewhat of a mother hen as one reference described her. Both stated that the family are dog lovers, the kids are great with the dogs…playing with them etc. Neither can think of any reason not to proceed.
Vet: Vet said Cooper is up to date on everything. Tech I spoke with was new to practice so was not familiar with either Cooper or Winny. No red flags on the chart.April 30, 2023 at 7:16 pm in reply to: 2023 Jason Kimbrell and Abby Cisco, Murfreesboro, Good fence, Renters, 1 Dog, No child, #30597No reply rec’d. from Jason regarding my request for reference and rental agency contact. My name is Kelly Imbody and I’m a volunteer with Airedale Rescue Group. I have rec’d. your application that you placed with SOAR.
Our ARG application seems a bit more extensive than SOAR’s, so before we chat I’d like some more information from you if you would be so kind?
• When is the best time to contact you for an interview…morning, evening?
• Would you please provide me with your rental agency phone number as we need to verify permission and check for any breed restrictions.
• Please provide the names and phone numbers of 2 personal references that are not related to you.
As soon as I receive this info., I’ll be in touch and we can talk about Airedales!!! I anxiously await hearing from you.
Kindly,
Kelly Imbody, ARG

We at ARG are just doing some “housekeeping” and are wondering if you are ready to consider an Airedale? Our last correspondence indicated that Marty, you were out of town taking care of your Mother. We hope that she recovered and is doing well.
Please let us know if you’re still wanting to adopt, as we will need to arrange a home visit.

wrote: Hi Kelly,
My friend Wendy and I had a lovely afternoon today when she went with me to conduct the home evaluation for Eddie Miller, 300 Broad Street, Marion, NC 28752.
Eddie has a level flat front yard that is completely fenced with chain link fencing and a padlock on the front gate. He has a large covered deck on the back of his home and one side of his home has uncovered decking. These decks, which are attached to his house, have direct access to the fully fenced front yard. The home is a well maintained home that I believe was built mid-20th century.
Eddie Miller’s home is probably a mile, maybe less, from the downtown area of Marion. It is a small town, but this house is on a large corner lot making it feel like you’re living in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Listening to the birds sing was bucolic.
This modest home and generous sized property with mature landscaping and one tree that looks like it is close to 100 years old is a well maintained. It is a one level home with garage parking below (similar to a daylight basement area) and I believe the home is probably approximately 1200 ft.².
We spent about 2 hours visiting with each other and talking about Airedales. Eddie is undecided about the age he prefers for his next Airedale.
One concern he has, which I understand, is if he gets an older Airedale, will he go through the grieving process sooner rather than later because an older dog may not live long. But then as a 70 year old himself, he hesitates to get a puppy. I think there are times when it is difficult to make an abstract, hypothetical decision. Sometimes we need to read about a dog and see a picture where we are able to look into the dog’s eyes to know what our hearts want and need.Eddie’s home is neat and clean. He showed photos to me of chewing damage past Airedale puppies had inflicted on a previous sofa that he owned. He seemed like this damage was unimportant to him and that you must expect some damage with puppies. I like the fact that he does not appear to have unrealistic expectations.
This property has been altered by Eddie to be comfortable for an Airedale. He has owned 3 of them over the past 30 years, 2 males and 1 female. His dogs are indoor dogs who sleep in the same room with him.
I approve Eddie Miller as an applicant to rescue/adopt an Airedale with no restrictions. In my opinion this pleasant, quiet man is qualified to rescue/adopt either a male or female Airedale of any age. He has a neighbor who lives a couple of blocks away with whom he goes for long walks with their dogs. I hope he has the opportunity to continue these walks. He truly loved all 3 of his Airedales and I could feel his sense of loss as we talked. I’m actually rather anxious for him to have the company of another wonderful Airedale to help fill the hole in his heart left by the death of his last Airedale 2 weeks ago. I know from my own life experience how difficult it can be to live alone and how much better life is with an Airedale to love.
Kelly, thank you for asking me to do this home evaluation. Wendy and I both enjoyed meeting Eddie Miller.

March 19, 2023 at 11:07 am in reply to: 2023 Eddie Miller, Marion NC, Good fence, ADT exp, no children, adopting Pearl #30404Airedale Rescue Group
Phone Interview: Eddie Miller
March 18, 2023Eddie has had 3 Airedales over the past 30 years…2 males and 1 female. He just lost “Zena” recently. All 3 Eddie got as puppies.
Eddie lives alone, is retired, he has no family living in the area. In speaking with one of his personal references, she stated that Eddie had never married and his dogs are his life. Front yard is fenced with chain link fencing with a gate from the porch to the yard as well.
Eddie said that the longest a dog would be alone would be a couple of hours as he plays tennis a couple times a week. He said he hasn’t taken a vacation in a long time, but when he did go on vacation he boarded Zena at his Vet. He said he usually takes his dogs on errands (grocery store etc.) with him if he can.
Another reference said that before they both lost their dogs, they were known around town as the 4 Musketeers…”we walked them everywhere.”
Eddie and I discussed some of the ‘dales currently available. He is interested in Roxie or Boone. I think that Blue would possible be too much as he is leash reactive and Eddie walks the dog in town.
Eddie is as good as his application sounds. His references are great too! I will contact Vet tomorrow, but will proceed with HV arrangements anyway.
Ref. #1
Has known Eddie for 18 years. Was familiar with his Airedales. Said Zena was a great dog. You couldn’t ask for a better dog owner. He did everything he needed to for them…cooked, Vet…he was unbelievable. Ref. lives in same town and often walked her dog with Eddie and his dog.
Ref. #2
Has known Eddie for 23 years. Describes him as “nuts” about his dogs. He would do anything for a dog. They are his children. He loves them to death. His dogs are his life. No reservations in recommending him for adoption.
Ref. #3
Has known Eddie for 15 years. His dogs are his babies. He would be great…you would have no worries.Vet info. still pending, as it’s Sunday, so will call tomorrow.
Anne Daletski has agreed to do HV so will forward information to her and let Eddie know she’ll be contacting him.March 18, 2023 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Wendy & Brooks Voyles, Bremen, GA 30110, Not ADT exp., 0 kids, 2-4 hr alone, #30403Communicated with Wendy. They are getting one of Merles’s pups. I have no idea what this means as I didn’t ask her as she said she ad spouse are both very sick. I told them to get well and good luck with their new pup, from whomever and wherever!!!

I thanked her for getting back to me and wished them well.March 6, 2023 at 9:23 am in reply to: 2023 McKinney, Shannon Good Fence, 2 children, 0-2 hrs alone #30335Airedale Rescue Group
Phone Interview: Shannon McKinney
February 27, 2023Shannon describes her neighborhood as being in downtown Raleigh, NC. The neighborhood has many families with a lot of children. She walks her twin 7 y/o daughters to school. There is a park on the other side of their backyard. It is an eclectic neighborhood and very walkable, with some sidewalks and a mini-mart and such close by.
She and her husband Andrew along with their twin daughters live in a ranch style home of about 1200 sq. ft. Their yard is fenced with chain link fencing. Both neighbors are fenced as well…one neighbor having a German Shepard and the opposite neighbor having an older Lab and “some type of mutt.” They have a door that opens from the home directly into the backyard. (this is clarified because on their application they replied NO that they didn’t have a door that opens directly to the dog area.)
They currently have an 11 y/o Doodle that has been diagnosed with cancer. As it so happens, he “Leonard” is being euthanized today. ☹ They have had Leonard since he was a puppy. Leonard is neutered. Leonard has the run of the house while they go out. He was not crate trained and she states that he’s never been a problem. Shannon related that Leonard gets along well with other dogs and is good with the chickens and bunnies.
They have free range chickens that are in their coop during the night, but out during the day. They also have 2 bunnies that are in a hutch on the back porch. The bunnies are occasionally brought inside when the twins want to play with them.
They have family close by and family is usually their “go to” for taking care of the animals if they go on vacation etc. as Shannon relates that sometimes it’s difficult to find care for the chickens and bunnies, so they often rely on family when needed. They have also used a boarding facility, but again, usually depend on family.
They are currently not looking at any other breeds. They have never rescued. Their interaction with Airedales is that they have friends that have an Airedale. Shannon states that her sister has rescued. They are not willing to take on a special needs Airedale, but realizes that as a dog ages/matures health issues arise (this was another area of clarification on their application).
We talked at length regarding the rescue process. I told her I could not give her a time frame. That rescues come to us often with issues, some minor, some major. I discussed the importance of consistency, patience, time, love and training when dealing with an Airedale. That they are very smart, stubborn and they need a job and enjoy interaction. I stressed the importance of letting the Airedale know that you are in control…you are the boss.Personal reference #1 has known the family for about 11 years and lives nearby. She describes the family as animal lovers and are devasted at having to put Leonard down. Reference has a dachshund and Leonard is good with him, being respectful of the size disparity. Reference states that the McKinney’s do what they need for their animals, realizing that as Leonard started growing he was exuberant and had a lot of energy, so they had no problem with fencing their backyard. Reference states that Shannon is a marathoner so she would run with Leonard. Reference has no reservations regarding approval for adoption.
Personal reference #2 has known Andrew for about 16 years and Shannon for about ½ of that. Reference lives nearby, is familiar with children whom she describes as being “really into animals”. Reference herself has a Dachshund and related that Leonard was very good with her dog. She does feel that the chickens and bunnies could be an issue, to which I agreed. She had no reservations regarding approving them for adoption.
VET: Banfield Animal Hospital tech wouldn’t talk to me…need permission from the client. I informed her that the client had obviously given me their contact so permission should be inferred. Nope. She said she’d call them, then call me back. Uh-huh. I was able to get out of her that Leonard hadn’t been seen by them since March of 2022. Maybe they took him somewhere else for euthanasia. No heard worm test since September of 2021. He was up to date on rabies, distemper etc. I texted Shannon and asked her to give me a call.

Charlie the Second is doing well – he turned 10 yo on 12/27/22.
I would be happy to do a home visit. It would need to be on the weekend or in the evening (7PMish). I am also in grad school and classes start up again on 1/17 so if I could do it before that, that would be great.
Please send me the details and a link for the home visit forms and I can contact the family.Happy New Year!
