Mebane, NC 27302December 18, 2023 at 8:04 pm in reply to: 2023 Cook Holley, Mitch, Mebane NC, good fence, ADT exp, 4 children, 1 ADT, 8 hrs alone #31430Airedale Rescue Group
Phone Interview: Holley Cook
December 16, 2023Holley and Mitch Cook currently have a 4 y/o female, spayed ADT named Evie. They got Evie as a puppy at about the age of 11 weeks from a friend in Aiken, SC that had 2 Airedales that she bred a couple of times. This friend is not a breeder.
Holley describes Evie as “great. She’s smart, loves to play and hike with us. She’s not much of a cuddler but likes her belly rubs. She’s good with kids and other dogs.” She’s a big ‘dale for a female…about 80 lbs.
The Cooks live in Mebane, NC having moved from Aiken. They have no family in the area…most of their family is in Aiken. Their neighborhood is a new neighborhood with sidewalks. There is a dog park and pool planned for the neighborhood, but neither exist as yet.
Evie gets Heartgard for heart worm prevention and Nexgard for flea/tick prevention.
Holley works from home 2 days a week and goes into the office the other 3 days which is about a 30 minute drive. Mitch works out of the home but comes home daily for lunch…his office is 5 minutes away.
The Cook’s have 2 children. An 11 y/o daughter and a 9 y/o son. Both love Evie.
They have no preference regarding a male or female and really no age preference but it should be noted that this is an active family and they take Evie to the mountains hiking etc. That being said, they also need a ‘dale that is good with kids.
Holley expressed interest in volunteering with ARG. She would consider transports, interviewing applicants realizing that work may put some limitations on this.Personal reference(s): Allison has known applicant for about 3 years. She is familiar with Evie and describes her as “super sweet and incredibly loving. Has manners unlike my wild Basset Hound. Their kids as well as mine adore her. She is a princess and so sweet! Evie listens to her parents incredibly well. She has been to our farm and obeyed perfectly…unlike our Basset. Evie is clearly part of their family and incredibly loved. She greets my whole family at the door and is wonderful to be around. Holley and Mitch are wonderful parents to Evie and any pup would be lucky to be in their family.”
Karen has known the family for about 12 years…they got Evie from Karen. Karen is no longer breeding…she just bred her pair a couple of times and then they were spayed & neutered. Karen and Holley used to work together in Aiken, SC. Karen describes Evie as “rotten”. “She is a great dog. Holley and Mitch are good with training. Evie is loyal and respects her boundaries and rules. Holley and Mitch are committed to training. Holley runs a tight ship. The kids are well rounded. They are a great family.”
VET: Up to date on all vaccines. Are regular with exams. Heartgard for heart worm. No flea/tick preventative on record. Message left for Holley re: same. No red flags on chart.*Applicant just texted that she treats for fleas/ticks with Nexgard.

They put Jack Odin on as a reference. He organizes the Airedale meet ups in Charlotte and the Charlotte Airedale Club. If he gives them a head nod o approval, the I would be good.
Chance’s people are not in a hurry.
Hope all is well with you. I am just back from the terrier walk in FL. Almost $900 was raised for ARG! I am dragging- so tired!!

Pat,
I’ll forward this to the Gard’s in Kannapolis. I know Keith Lehr had agreed to do their HV but I believe there were some minor scheduling issues. I know that the Gard’s were going to an Airedale meet up in Charlotte, so by all rights they have probably met before. Not sure that HV has happened but will inquire.

He would walk on occasion with Karl and his ADT “Griffin” in the neighborhood park. Karl walked Griffin in the park every day. Griffin was obedient and “great with Karl”. He was standoffish when he first met reference, but quickly warmed up to him. Griffin was Karl’s buddy. Karl is “good people.” Reference could think of no reason not to approve Karl.

Thank you soooo much for doing this!!! These folks sound great.
Attached please find their ARG application, my phone interview notes and the Home Visit evaluation form. Use that as a guide, as not everything is applicable. I will remind them in the shared email (to follow) that we would like everyone to be present for the Home Visit.

Phone Interview: Daniel Danieley
December 12, 2023Daniel currently has a 5 y/o ADT female, spayed named Coco. He got her from a breeder at the age of 5 months in Zebulon, NC. States the website had 5 stars but states that knowing what he now knows, he’d give the breeder 1 star.
The neighborhood is large, there are sidewalks. There is a small, wooded area behind the home. Waxhaw, NC is about 40 minutes South of Charlotte, NC. Daniel states there are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood. They are fenced with an iron fence. They spend a lot of time in the mountains and would like Coco to have a friend to run/hike with.
They are also considering a Welsh Terrier.
Daniel states his daughter would like a dog that is a “snuggler.”
Elkie works from home 2 days per week and Daniel comes home for lunch every day. Coco goes to Doggie Day Care 2 days a week and’ve enjoys it. Coco is not chipped.
Daniel’s Mother is in the area and able to help if needed, but usually they rely on their day care for day and overnight boarding.
Daniel said they would prefer a female just because they’ve always had females, however, if it was the right dog… They would prefer a 1-6 y/o. Minor health issues “would not be a deal breaker.”Personal reference has known applicant since college. States they are outstanding people, children are great. Coco is a “cool dog.” It takes a while for her to warm up to people. She gets along good with other dogs. Applicant has never seen Coco be aggressive.
Personal reference has known applicant for 10 years and lives in the same neighborhood. Reference has 3 dogs…2 labs and Bichon/mix. All dogs get along. States Coco was timid when they 1st brought her home, but his female lab helped her to get acclimated to leash walking etc. Danieley’s often call to see if dogs an play. Has never witnessed Coco being aggressive. States kids are great, Daniel and Elkie are great. Whole family loves dogs.- This reply was modified 1 year, 1 month ago by Kelly Geren-Imbody.

Phone Interview: Karl Hrenko
December 12, 2023Karl has expressed interest in Walter. He recently lost his spouse (1 month ago) and admits he’s looking for something to keep him busy.
Per Google Earth, the neighborhood appears large, the home large. There is a fenced back yard…fence is chain link. There are a couple of ponds nearby, no sidewalks. Karl says there is a park about ¼ mile from his home where he walked his dog. He lost his Airedale “Griffin” in September and is “looking for a buddy.”
Karl’s daughter lives downstairs with her “friend”. Karl is 74 years old, his daughter is in her 40’s. He has had 2 Airedales…the 1st he got from a breeder in Mebane, NC years ago and Griffin he got from Joval in VA.
Karl is retired. Dog would spend minimal time alone. Daughter is available and willing to help if needed. He currently has an elderly Pug named “Zoe”. She is 16 years old and “spends most of her time sleeping.” She does get along with other dogs as his daughter has a schnauzer and his grandsons ages 8 & 10 also have a Schnauzer. Both Schnauzers get along with Zoe and other dogs. The dogs see each other about twice a week.
Karl would pre a male ages 4-6 years old.
Karl was asked to provide a personal reference that was not his Vet. He will provide me with a name of neighbor/friend for personal reference. Will wait to hear from Karl.VET: Familiar with Griffin and applicant. Applicant is good with his dogs. Comes in regularly for exams and Griffin was kept up to date regarding vaccines. Pug is also up to date. Can offer no reason not to consider them for adoption.

kevnkell@hotmail.comDecember 8, 2023 at 5:35 pm in reply to: 2023 Beasley, Jennifer & Andrew, Dunwoody GA, good fence, 2 children, 1 senior dog, works from home #31336Good afternoon Amanda, mandybecks@mac.com
Again, many thanks in advance for your help. There is not a “rush” on this though we would like to get them ready to take a ‘dale should they be approved and a ‘dale comes available that is a good fit for them.
I’ve attached their application, my notes from the phone interview I did with Jennifer and a blank evaluation form for your use. It’s a good tool to refer to, but not everything is applicable in all situations. The bottom line is that when you leave these folks if you would feel 100% comfortable leaving your dog with them, then they’re a “go”!! We’re just looking for a safe and loving home for our ‘dales.
I will send you and Jennifer a shared email introducing you to each other. Schedule their Home Visit at a time best for the both of you. I will remind Jennifer in the shared email that we would like her husband and children to be present for the Home Visit. Also Amanda, feel free to take your ‘dale with you. Sometimes the interaction between the dogs as well as the family can be very telling. It’s your call though, but feel free.
Once you’ve completed your Home Visit, you can call me or email me with your thoughts/assessment.
Please call/text/or email me with any concerns/questions you may have.
Thank you sooooooooo much! I look forward to hearing from you!
Warmly,

Phone Interview: Jennifer Beasley
December 7, 2023The Beasley’s live in a suburb of Atlanta, GA. They live on a cul-de-sac, no sidewalks, large neighborhood, and off a main road. Back yard is fenced with wood fence 5-6’. Dog cannot see thru the fence except for at the gate.
They currently have a 16 y/o Aussie-Terrier mix that they rescued from the San Diego Humane Society (husband was military) at the age of 4. “Plato” was not neutered nor housebroken at the time. He is currently being treated for congestive heart failure. Plato is an integral member of the family…”he wants to be wherever we are.” 2 years ago he was attacked while walking in the neighborhood by 2 Pit-mixes that had gotten loose. He is frightened of “big” dogs since. Most of his “friends” are girl dogs…a golden retriever and golden doodle. Plato is 28# but has long legs. His temperament is that of aloofness when dealing with most dogs (friends excepted). He is not aggressive toward other dogs he doesn’t necessarily like…he adopts a neutral attitude and seeks a place to get out of the way.
Children in the home are 9 & 10 yr. olds. They enjoy interacting with Plato and have responsibility for food and water. Family enjoys being outside, hiking, tennis and indoors…board games.
Daughter (3rd grade) was “assigned Airedales” when asked why they chose the breed. Neighbors have Airedales. No direct interaction however with Airedales.
They would crate train if necessary and would accept dog that had been/is crate trained. Prefer a female because Plato has had more exposure to females. Prefer a 5 yr. old or older. Would accept medical issues as well as a bonded pair so as to not separate even if one was not an Airedale.
They have no family in the area…Chicago and Florida. Use a pet sitting service when needed.Ref: 1st ref has known Jennifer since HS (he 40 yrs. Old) Ref. lives in Utah. Has not known Plato. States Jennifer is very caring person. Always wants everyone to be healthy and feel good. Imagines her to be the same with an animal.
Voice mail & text message left for 2nd reference.Vet: Since Plato is 15 years old Beasley’s have opted out of vaccines due to advanced age. Vet tech says they are in frequently or as needed re: Plato’s health. This Vet tech was not personally familiar with Plato. Tech called back with report of Dr.: confirmed opting out of vaccines due to age. Clients take good care of Plato, keeping appts. And doing necessary blood work. Plato is a good boy, likes treats and butt scratches.
