Good Morning!
Hey Kelly, this is Mia Mandel. I had the home visit yesterday and I think it went well. Sue was lovely, and I enjoyed meeting her! I am keeping an eye out on your website. Please keep me in mind as well if you feel you come across a pet that would be a good fit for our family.
Enjoy the rest of your day,
MiaSue M.

Hi Jackie and Kelly,I visited with the Mandel family yesterday. Nice family. The entire family was present, Mia her husband and 2 lovely polite calm twin girls. They looked around 10 years old. They have a nice home with a fenced in yard in a large busy subdivision. I saw several people walking their dogs on the sidewalks. I was going to take pictures but never did sorry. The yard is small but plenty of room to run. The fence is wood and over 6 feet tall. They have a deck and doggie door. Im not fond of doggie doors but ok. Mia is a kindergarten teacher and is gone all day so the dogs can go in and out. There was a gate at the top of the stairs on the deck so I think they can go in and out but they stay on the deck. I believe. She did tell me a story about several years ago there was a hole under their fence (which has since been fixed) and she woke up one morning and 2 of the neighbors dogs were in her house. LOL. Anyway since the hole was fixed and the gate is there so that is no longer an issue.
They currently have 2 dogs, both female and seem to be terrier mixes. They have that terrier haircut. The dogs seemed happy, clean and cared for. The dogs were very active with me and the family. Mia said she has never owned an Airedale but she loves big dogs and was raised with big dogs. I asked her why she wanted 3 dogs. The larger dog was very sweet but is 14 years old. She was very alert and perky for 14 but Im sure she wont be around too much longer. The smaller terrier is 2 years old and very busy loud and barked alot when I came in. The family interacted with the small yapper very well trying to calm her and ended up giving it treats to keep her quiet. That dog was nice but typical 2 year old terrier.
I reminded them and if they get a dog and it does not work out to give you all a call and/or return the dog vs giving it away etc. She said she understood.
I think this family would make great parents for a airedale.
If you need any more info let me know.

After much discussion, we are going to pass on Oscar at this time. We are worried that at his age we would not be able to teach him to get along with small dogs. I really hate that he is stuck at a vet’s office. If I can be of assistance transporting him to someone, I would be happy to help.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi, Jennifer. Thanks for your message about Oscar. I understand your hesitancy and your concern for your small dog. Don’t worry. When the right dog comes along, we will be here. We never know when the next one is going to come in, and it may just be an Airedale that has lived with and been friends with a smaller dog.Thank you.

http://www.airedalerescuegroup.comI was able to speak with the groomer, Kayla. Kayla related that Mia’s dogs seem happy and well-adjusted. She said Mia is a good “dog mom”. She has been a client of Kayla’s for over 8 years. There have been no red flags noted per Kayla.
Hello Kelly,
Thank you for responding…I am excited to talk with you and hope we can work something out for Clementine!
My phone number is (678) 787-4610. I work in a school so it’s hard to reach me during the day, but I should be home tomorrow by 5- 5:30 and can talk until around 10:00. I’m available now…until about 10:00.
Banfield is (I think) a franchised veterinarian with various doctors. I was last at the vet a year ago January when I had to say goodbye to my sweet baby. I’m not sure if the same vet is there, but I will contact them. Also, I used Lilburn Animal Hospital for years but have not been there for over a year. I used to raise and show Bedlington Terriers and they took care of my babies. I know this is probably more information than you need, but I feel you need to know. I’m pretty picky about my vet, so if I’m not happy with the one I ‘draw’ at Banfield, I search for another.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
ConnieI have my misgivings re: someone that works full time fostering, as many times these pups have issues that won’t be served well by being crated 8-9 hours/day.I think she’d do better to adopt a well-adjusted Senior ‘dale that basically needs re-homed. Just my opinion. I may be waaaaaay off base as I’ve never fostered.
ARG Phone Interview Notes Connie Johns
It should be noted that the phone # on the application is incorrect. The correct phone # for Connie is: 678-787-4610Connie is a teacher, working 8-9 hours/day. She lives alone. Connie is interested in fostering Clemmie. She has had experience with Beddlington Terriers, I believe she told me that she has had a total of 5, in addition to a Yorkie. She related that she gave all her dogs heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative. Connie has been without a dog for approximately 18 mos. She would prefer to foster.
We discussed her being gone all day and the needs of a foster…who knows what they may be. She said that she would hire a dog walker to come in during the day. She also has a daughter that will take care of the dog if she needs to travel for whatever reason.
We discussed Clemmie’s extensive and serious/chronic/terminal medical issues and that because of these extenuating circumstances, ARG has concluded that we cannot take Clemmie.I spoke with the vet’s office. No red flags there. She was up to date on all vaccinations and never missed an appointment, going “out of her way to make sure that her dogs were healthy. Her record looks good.”
I also spoke with Sherry Hancock, her reference. She stated that she has known for a long time and that she is very caring and committed, though she has never seen Connie interact with her dogs…just children, but surmises that anyone who feels that way about children, must be the same about her dogs. Sherry related that she knows Connie loved her Yorkie as she talked about her all time. Sherry related that she really wanted Clemmie.August 9, 2019 at 3:48 pm in reply to: Jennifer & Ken Holston, Locust Grove GA ADT exp, 0 kids, New Dog, HOLD #23362I see that Oscar does not do well around small dogs. Is this a training issue or more of a I was bred to chase/hunt small animals? My mother and brother both have small dogs (less than 12 pounds). While we only get together a few times a year, this would be a problem.

Just spoke w/Jennifer re: concern over chasing small dogs. Informed that ARG would assist w/training (up to $500) as well as with finding a trainer. She stated that it “broke her heart that he’s been in a kennel” all this time. Encouraged her to discuss/consider further. Needs to speak w/spouse who is currently traveling. Told her if I didn’t hear from her in 1 week, I’d call her. Told her about the assist w/training & finding trainer. Reiterated that Airedales are soooo smart…which she knows. She has forwarded the info. to her husband whom is traveling right now. She sounded open. Told her that ‘dales realize the difference btwn. a woodchuck, squirrel etc. vs a small dog. She said that they would still want to meet him. I told her I’d give her a week, & if I don’t hear from her, I’d call.- This reply was modified 5 years, 5 months ago by Kelly Geren-Imbody.

Things are moving quickly! I’ve attached a pic of “Oscar” that we’d like you to consider. He has been at the vet clinic for 3 weeks. He’ll be 3 in December. He LOVES everyone! He’s pretty much a blank slate as far as training goes…he’s had none. You know from your previous experience with an Airedale that they are very intelligent & take to training readily. Jackie says he is currently in Rome, GA. Please go to the ARG website & take a look. I’ll give you a call tomorrow to hear your thoughts. If you’ve any questions regarding Oscar, get in touch with Jackie @: airedalemail

I’ll call you tomorrow.Kindest regards,
KellyAugust 9, 2019 at 3:37 pm in reply to: Jennifer & Ken Holston, Locust Grove GA ADT exp, 0 kids, New Dog, HOLD #23357Hi Kelly,
We completed our home visit. Their application is all correct. Both very pleasant and knowledgeable about the breed. Thy have had their fence reinforced. They have a nice home in an airplane community where most houses have hangars. Around here rather normal and a tight knit community. They do crate train and travel with crate. Jennifer is going to be at home much more as she stated in the application. They spoke of their experiences and were dead on with most characteristics of the breed and I directly asked, “are you sure you want another Airedale?” They responded, “yes”. They spoke fondly of their past Dale and rescue with a genuine compassion and experience that most Dale parents learn having lived with one.
I asked about the male and female thing and they seem to have their heart set on a female as they have experience. I asked them not to rule out a male if the right dog comes along. They did express a desire to meet a candidate on their own expense and time if possible and that might be the biggest hurdle.
I feel they would be a wonderful addition to ARG family and would love one, if it is the dog. Ken, like me, thinks that “you just know”.
Let me know should you need anything else or if I didn’t hit upon a topic. We had a good conversation and I may have left something of value out.
Thanks and please keep me abreast of how they are doing or if I can help in anyway.
